Cable and streaming networks will enter the New Year with a light slate of original series and specials, highlighted by a spinoff series from Disney Plus's Emmy-nominated series The Mandalorian.

The new series, The Book of Boba Fett, debuts December 29 and follows legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand as they navigate the galaxy's underworld when they return the the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt of Star Wars fame, said the streaming service.

Debuting on New Year's Day on HBO Max is Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, a special which reunites cast members from the Harry Potter film franchise. Among those slated to appear in the special are Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, and Evanna Lynch.

Netflix garnered more Creative Arts Emmy Awards wins than any other content distributor during a ceremony last night, according to the Television Academy.

The streaming service won 15 Creative Arts Emmy Awards Saturday night in the first of two ceremonies celebrating technical, guest acting roles and other categories. The second Creative Emmy Awards ceremony will take place tonight (Sept. 15).

National Geographic finished second with eight wins -- seven for its documentary series Free Solo, which topped all shows, according the Television Academy. CNN, NBC, Fox, HBO, YouTube, CBS and VH1 also won multiple awards.

Other programs with multiple wins included Love, Death & Robots, Our Planet and Queer Eye (Netflix); Age of Sail (YouTube), RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1), Saturday Night Live (NBC), Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown and United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell (CNN); Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO), and Rent (Fox).

Also last night, 97-year old legendary producer Norman Lear became the oldest winner in Emmy history, taking home the statuette for Outstanding Live Variety Special for ABC's  Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear's All in the Family and The Jeffersons, a re-staging of two of Lear's iconic 1970's comedies with contemporary casts.

WarnerMedia today announced that it has ordered two non-scripted series from the respective producers of Queer Eye and The Amazing Race for its upcoming streaming service, HBO Max.

Executive produced by Scout Productions’ Queer Eye operatives David Collins, Michael Williams and Rob Eric, Legendary will be a competition series themed around voguing, a competitive style of modern dance featuring over-the-top fashion and choreography based on classic model-on-catwalk poses. WarnerMedia has ordered 10 episodes of Legendary for HBO Max.

WarnerMedia has also commissioned Scout Productions to produce 10 episodes of The Greatest Space, along with New Media Collective (NMC), the shop behind The Amazing Race that features Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri

The Greatest Space will be a one-hour show featuring interior designers traveling around the world to transform an eclectic mix of empty rooms into spaces that are, you know, fabulous.

“Unscripted programming will be an incredibly important component of our HBO Max originals, and this is just the beginning of our venture into this space,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max. “These two initial shows will transport audiences to underground worlds and take them on visually stunning, exotic adventures, equaled only by the compelling stories of each contestant.

WarnerMedia has put out a steady stream of programming announcements as it preps for the launch of its new subscription streaming platform in the spring off 2020. The latest reports put the monthly price point for the new service at around $15 a month, three times what Apple will be charging for its new originals-based platform, Apple TV+.

USA Network’s premiere of Suits spinoff drama series Pearson and Netflix's reality series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee lead the list of new and returning shows debuting this week.

Pearson, which premieres July 17, stars Gina Torres as lawyer Jessica Pearson, who moves to Chicago to work for that city’s mayor after being disbarred in New York, according to USA Network.

The series’s debut follows the premiere of the ninth and final season of Suits.

Also premiering this week is the new season of Netflix’s reality series Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, starring Jerry Seinfeld and featuring appearances by Eddie Murphy, Seth Rogen, Ricky Gervais and Jamie Foxx.
