Puppy Bowl celebrates 20 years on the air Sunday, February 11. Simulcast across Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, TBS, truTV, Max and Discovery Plus, the three-hour Puppy Bowl XX telecast, featuring 131 puppies, begins at 2 p.m. ET. 

As the Chiefs and 49ers battle for the Lombardi Trophy on CBS, Puppy Bowl sees Team Ruff and Team Fluff battle for the Lombarky Trophy. 

The largest of the 131 is the Great Dane Levi, at 72 pounds, and the smallest is Sweetpea, who weighs in at 1.7 pounds. 

The Super Bowl kicks off on CBS at 6:30 p.m.

A longtime Animal Planet special, Puppy Bowl was simulcast across the various Warner Bros. Discovery networks for the first time last year.

Following Puppy Bowl XX, Stupid Pet Tricks debuts on TBS, Discovery, truTV and Animal Planet at 5 p.m. ET February 11. Sarah Silverman hosts the show, an extension of the segments that used to appear on Late Show With David Letterman. 

Letterman appears in the pilot episode, sitting with Silverman as she takes the SPT torch. Then viewers see a goat who does yoga, a life-saving dog, and what TBS calls “the biggest pet we’ve ever seen.”

New episodes air on TBS Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, beginning February 12. 

Super Bowl LVII takes place Sunday, February 12, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Fox airs the game. The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles and kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET. 

Rihanna is the headliner for the halftime show. 

Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen call the game for Fox. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were the Fox football guys, having hosted six Super Bowls, but the pair moved on to ESPN in 2022, to work on Monday Night Football. ESPN and ABC have the Super Bowl in 2027.

Burkhardt told NextTV.com about his preparation for the big game: “I know this won’t be like every other game, but I’m just preparing like I do every game. When I got promoted this year, I said I was going to keep doing what I’m doing and keep the same prep routine because that’s what got me here. If I did something completely ridiculous for the Super Bowl I’d be an idiot.”

Rihanna has not been onstage for close to four years, and it’s been seven years since her last album, Anti, as she has focused on her successful beauty and fashion lines, as well as motherhood. Speaking with Nate Burleson on CBS Mornings, she said, “It was so scary because it was kind of unexpected to come back from zero to the Super Bowl.”

Apple Music sponsors the halftime show, succeeding Pepsi in the role. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is the Super Bowl’s “live music entertainment strategist.” Rihanna is managed by Roc Nation. She had turned down an invite to play the Super Bowl in 2019. 

Her next album, R9, has been long awaited, and no release date has been announced. 

One Super Bowl commercial that's getting some buzz features Natasha Lyonne, star of Peacock drama Poker Face. Her character Charlie helps solve crimes by always knowing when someone is lying. She displays this unique skill when discussing other Super Bowl ads running February 12. 

Besides Fox, the game is on FoxSports.com and the Fox Sports app. 

For those who don’t go for football, the Puppy Bowl happens February 12 as well. A longtime Animal Planet property, Puppy Bowl XIX will simulcast on Animal Planet, Discovery, Discovery Plus, HBO Max and TBS for the first time. The event will feature 122 puppies, 67 shelters and rescues across 34 states. 

Human talent includes Bleacher Report host Taylor Rooks, sports commentator Steve Levy, Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson (Married to Real Estate), Faruq Tauheed (Battlebots), Zak Bagans (Ghost Adventures) and Alex Guarnaschelli (Supermarket Stakeout,) along with talent from Discovery Channel’s Street Outlaws franchise and New Line Cinema’s film Shazam! Fury of the Gods. 

Dan Schachner returns as referee. 

The pre-game is on at 1 p.m. ET and the game starts at 2. ■

Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg host the 18th annual Puppy Bowl on Discovery Plus and Animal Planet Sunday, February 13. The fun starts at 2 p.m. ET. Team Ruff faces off against Team Fluff, with one team claiming the Lombarky trophy at the end. 

One team will be coached by Stewart, and the other by Snoop. 

The duo also hosts Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party on VH1, and hosted Snoop and Martha’s Very Tasty Halloween on Peacock.

The Puppy Bowl celebrates adoptable dogs, and will feature Adoptable Pop segments hosted by Dan Schachner, who doubles as game “rufferee.” 

Fully 118 puppies, from 67 shelters, will be featured. 

Elmo of Sesame Street will also turn up, along with his rescue dog Tango. 

Kittens are the halftime attraction as the Kitty Half-Time Show goes down. 

Also on February 13, the Cincinnati Bengals play the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.

It is the 17th annual Puppy Bowl. For the first time ever, there will be puppy cheerleaders on the sidelines. NFL stars Chris Godwin, Ronnie Stanley and Ryan Kerrigan reveal their puppy adoption stories. Kristen Bell, Valerie Bertinelli and Food Network star Duff Goldman will appear as well.

Non-football fans and pigskin aficionados sick of seeing the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl will have a bevy of other viewing choices before and during Sunday's big game.

In the hours prior to the 6 p.m. start of the Patriots/Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl LIII game on CBS, pet lovers will once again get to choose between watching playful and adoptable adults cats during Hallmark Channel’s 1st Annual Cat Bowl -- which follows the network’s Kitten Bowl VI-- or viewing adorable and adoptable baby canines during Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XV.

During the game, viewers can pick up the remote and choose between marathons of such TV shows as The Office (Comedy Central), Planet Earth: Blue Planet (BBC America), Botched (E!), Ridiculousness (MTV), 48 Hours (Investigation Discovery) and The Simpsons (FXX).

The WWE will step into the counterprogramming ring in an effort to draw wrestling fans away from Maroon 5’s Super Bowl halftime performance. The WWE will offer a live, tag-team wrestling performance on its WWE Network subscription streaming service, marking the first time in 20 years the pro wrestling outfit has offered a live match during halftime of a Super Bowl event.

Super Bowl LIII is projected to draw more than 100 million viewers, but there are plenty other viewing choices for the millions of people looking to pass on the big game. 

Pet lovers will have plenty of animal-themed programming to cuddle up to leading into and following Super Bowl LII this Sunday. 

While the big game between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles doesn’t officially kick off until 6 p.m. on NBC, viewers can get into the football spirit all afternoon long with Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl and Hallmark Channel’s Kitten Bowl.

The three-hour Kitten Bowl V pet adoption event will premiere at noon on Sunday and will feature displaced kittens rescued from the country’s most recent national disasters seeking the to win the “Feline Football” trophy, according to Hallmark officials. Animal advocate Beth Stern will host the event, with Boomer Esiason calling play-by-play action.

Hallmark will partner with the North Shore Animal League America to host 500 adoption parties for the event, which over its tenure has inspired the adoption of more than 10,000 animals, according to the network.

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, puppies will take the field for Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XIV. The two-hour special will feature 90 adoptable puppy “players” running around chasing soft footballs and chew toys in a bone-shaped stadium featuring more than a dozen cameras, according to network officials.

Animal Planet has teamed with 48 different animal shelters and rescue organizations from 25 U.S. states and territories to field its lineup of puppies.

Animal Planet will begin the festivities with a Puppy Bowl pre-game show at 2 p.m., said the network. 

After Super Bowl LII is over, animal lovers can tune into Nat Geo Wild for the return of its Safari Live series beginning at 10 p.m. – kicking off a five-day run for the wildlife show. The network will showcae in real time wildlife action from Kenya’s Maasai Mara and South Africa’s iconic Sabi Sands Game Reserve, according to network officials. 

Nat Geo Wild’s Safari Live drew an average of 160,000 viewers for its initial run in 2017.

Puppy Bowl, Animal Planet’s annual showcase of young dogs playing football, returns Feb. 4, the same day as Super Bowl LII.

Once again, Team Ruff tackles Team Fluff in the big game, with both squads fighting for the “Lombarky” trophy.

In addition to providing alternative programming to the Super Bowl, Puppy Bowl also draws attention to animal rescue efforts nationwide. All of the pups are available for adoption. Puppy Bowl XIV features 90 dogs rescued from areas that were devastated by natural disasters in 2017, including Houston, Puerto Rico and Florida.

The action starts at 3 p.m. ET. Puppy Bowl will be held at the new bone-shaped Geico stadium. Jokgu, the piano-playing chicken from Season 12 of America's Got Talent, will play “The Star-Spangled Banner” on the keyboard.

Animal Planet said the “tail-gaiting” starts with the pre-game show at 2 p.m., featuring “aww-nalysis and cuddly commentary from sports anchor James Hound with Rodt Weiler and Sheena Inu serving as pregame show analysts.” For the seventh consecutive year, Dan Schachner will “rufferee.”

Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl special on Sunday was the TV's most talked about entertainment show via social media on a day dominated by Super Bowl LI, according to Nielsen.

Puppy Bowl XIII drew 561,000 interactions on Facebook and Twitter from 471,000 unique social media accounts to lead all entertainment shows on Sunday, according to Nielsen’s daily Social Content Ratings report. Fox’s post-Super Bowl airing of 24:Legacy finished second with 128,000 social interactions, followed by Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and PBS’ Victoria On Masterpiece and Mercy Street, said Nielsen.

Not suprisingly, Fox’s coverage of the New England Patriots’ historic come-from-behind win over the Atlanta Falcons during Super Bowl LI drew the most social media interactions for a live sports event with a whopping 190 million Facebook and Twitter interactions from more than 48 million unique social media accounts, according to Nielsen.
