‘Premios Univision Deportes’ Returns in December

For the second consecutive year, Univision Deportes will devote an entire night to honoring the top figures in the sports world.

Premios Univision Deportes will air live at 8 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Dec. 18, on Univision, originating from Miami, with a simulcast on sister cable network Univision Deportes. Both networks will re-air the show at 8 p.m. (PT).

This year’s two-hour presentation will celebrate sports figures for their accomplishments on and off the field in soccer, basketball, baseball, football, boxing and auto racing, among other sports.

“We are proud to celebrate the athletes and sports talent who impact our communities,” Univision Deportes president Juan Carlos Rodriguez said. “We are back as part of our commitment to delivering the engaging content that our fanáticos crave.”

Premios Univision Deportes will be hosted by Julian Gil, actor and co-host of the long-running Univision series República Deportiva, and Jacqueline Bracamontes, actress and judge of Univision’s Nuestra Belleza Latina beauty-pageant reality show.

Premios Univision Deportes will honor 25 athletes and sports figures for their passion and excellence in sports and their connection to Hispanic-American sports fans. The awards will be presented by sports legends and Univision personalities.

The awards show will also include musical performances by Latin artists yet to be revealed by the network.

Univision Announces Lineup For Inaugural Premios Univision Deportes

Univision Deportes has announced the hosts and musical talent lineup for the two-hour inaugural Premios Univision Deportes (Univision Sports Awards), which honors sports teams and athletes, the network announced today.

Alan Tacher and Jacqueline Bracamontes are set to host the night of sports and entertainment, along with musical performances by artists Natalia Jimenez, Nico & Vinz and Wisin.

The awards show will air on UniMás Dec. 18 at 9 p.m. with a simulcast on UDN (Univision Deportes Network) with a pre-show at 8 p.m.

Some other guests for the main ceremony and pre-show include, Alejandro Berry, Jorge Calvo, Lindsay Casinelli, Ana Caty Hernández and Carolina Macallister, along with Jesús Bracamontes, Pablo Ramírez, Hristo Stoichkov, Enrique “El Perro” Bermúdez, Félix Fernández, Iván Kasansew and Jorge Pérez-Navarro.

Donovan, Rodriguez, Pujols Top Univision Sports Awards Nominees

Univision Deportes has revealed the 25 categories that will be considered during its inaugural Premios Univision Deportes (Univision Sports Awards), set to air Dec. 18 at 9 p.m. on UniMás and UDN.

The two-hour presentation is recognized by the network as "the ultimate sports award show for U.S. Hispanics honoring top athletes and teams from the leagues and sports that Hispanics care about most."

All told, 65 sports figures have been nominated for their roles in soccer, basketball, baseball, boxing, auto racing and more. Some of the nominees include, Landon Donovan, Miguel Herrera, Albert Pujols and James Rodríguez.

Fans will be able to vote as well for Goal of the Year, Extreme Sports Athlete of the Year, Best Athlete Post on Social Media and Best Artistic Performance by an Athlete. Sports personalities, such as journalists, broadcasters, and retired world class athletes will also select winners at Premios Univision Deportes.

Univision Deportes is also hosting a nationwide search for everyday heroes called For the Love of the Game, where the winner will receive a $25,000 cash prize, as well as a paid trip to attend the Premios Univision Deportes gala in Miami. The gala will include an hour-long red carpet pre-show, complete with musical performaces by Latin music acts.

To recognize those who make athletics happen in their communities, Univision Communications, as part of its inaugural sports awards show, is initiating a nationwide search for nominations for these every day stars.

The U.S. Spanish-language media leader is encouraging nominations for its “For the Love of the Game” award honoring those who deploy the power of sports to serve their communities and enhance lives. The search is part of the recently announced Premios Univision Deportes (Univision Sports Awards), which will be simulcast on broadcast network UniMás and cable channel Univision Deportes Network on Dec. 18 at 9 p.m. (ET).

Univision's two-hour presentation will celebrate sports figures for their accomplishments on and off the field across multiple sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, football, boxing and auto racing.

The winner of the search will receive the “For the Love of the Game” award, comprising a $25,000 cash prize and an all-expense paid trip to attend the Premios Univision Deportes Gala in Miami, where the winner will spend the evening with some of the world’s most renowned athletes.

“Beyond paying tribute to the athletes and sports professionals that our fans admire for their performance on the field, we are committed to having a direct impact on our community and recognizing community heroes who contribute to it and make a difference,” said Juan Carlos Rodríguez, president of Univision Deportes, the sports division of Univision Communications. “With this recognition and award, we aim to continue encouraging commitment to serve our community.”

Nominations can be sent via email to premiosdeportes@tv.univison.com with a video or essay describing the candidate’s work to improve their community through sports. Nominations must be received by Sunday, Nov. 23 and will be reviewed by the Premios Univision Deportes sports committee. Finalists will be announced Sunday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. on República Deportiva on the Univision Network, and simulcast on UDN.

The award show will be a formal gala and include musical performances by top Latin artists, preceded by a one-hour, red carpet pre-show to air on UDN. Awards will be presented by sports figures and Univision talent.

All told, the media company's game plan for Premios Univision Deportes is to select 25 winners for their passion and excellence in sports and their connection to Hispanic American sports fans. In addition to "For Love of the Game," special categories also will include a lifetime achievement and humanitarian awards.

Awards will be presented both by fan selection and voting as well as by a diverse committee of leaders in the sports space, including executives, journalists, broadcasters, and retired world class athletes.
