                                <p>Pilot, the new tech arm of the <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/nab">National Association of Broadcasters</a> is teaming up with Google News to help TV and radio stations navigate the online advertising world, given the phase-out of third party cookies.</p><p>Broadcasters elsewhere have taken issue with <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/nab">Google</a> over use of <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/tag/white-spaces">"white spaces"</a> between TV channels and what broadcasters say have been edge giants&apos; failure to sufficiently compensate them for aggregating and selling against their valuable content, but they are clearly looking for some expertise in online advertising wherever they can get it and Google has a ton.</p><p>NAB said 10 member companies are participating in the first phase of the six-month program, which launched with a meeting last month.</p><p>Broadcasters are looking for some online ad education, as well as how to implement first-party data and direct-to-consumer business models.</p><p>Broadcasters can use that expertise now, with their station websites, and in the future when the <a href="https://www.nexttv.com/news/atsc-3-0-nextgen-tv">ATSC 3.0</a> transmission standard allows for interactivity and targeted advertising.</p><p>Broadcasters said they want to protect both user privacy and the ongoing and growing business of digital publishing.</p><p>"Implementing new strategies to enhance first party data and audience engagement, especially those to better serve local audiences, are vital across all broadcaster platforms," said Beth Grossman, head of revenue strategy, local broadcast news at Google.</p><p>One of the fruits of the program will be a report commissioned from Borrell Associates, that will put together strategies in use by broadcasters or available to them, said NAB. ■</p>

                                <p>Syfy has ordered a pilot for drama series <em>Incorporated</em> from Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Pearl Street Films.</p><p><em>Incorporated</em> is set in a future where companies have unlimited power, and tells the story of executive Ben Larson, forced to change his identity to infiltrate a cut-throat corporate world, so he can save the woman he loves. In the process, he will take on the entire system -- with deadly consequences.</p><p>The series is created by David and Alex Pastor, who wrote and will direct the pilot. Ted Humphrey will serve as executive producer/showrunner, with Damon, Affleck and Jennifer Todd also executive producing. Pearl Street Films' Margaret Chernin will serve as associate producer. The installment will air immediately following the season-five finale of <em>Shameless</em> at 9 p.m. </p><p><em>HAPPYish</em>, starring Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominee Steve Coogan, Kathryn Hahn and Emmy-winner and Golden Globe-nominee Bradley Whitford, will assume its regular time slot on Sunday, April 26 at 9:30 p.m. </p><p>Currently in production in New York, the series is a comedic, soul-searching examination of our pursuit of happiness and why it continues to be so elusive.                                 <p>Luke Wilson and Imogen Poot were cast in the lead roles for Showtime’s one-hour comedy pilot <em>Roadies</em>.</p><p>The project follows the day-to-day life of a crew managing, setting up a successful rock tour.</p><p>Wilson (O<em>ld School</em>, T<em>he Royal Tenebaums</em>) portrays road-weary, sleep-deprived tour manager Bill, who is five years sober. Poot (<em>The Look of Love</em>) plays Kelly Ann, a first-rate tech, who has questionable people skills as she tries to make her mark on the world.   </p><p>Also in the ensemble cast:  Academy Award nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes (<em>Whale Ride</em>r) is the outspoken and passionate sound mixer “Donna Mancini,” who every day leads her road family in their favorite ritual, “The Song of the Day.” Rafe Spall (<em>One Day</em>) is on board as Reg Whitehead, a successful British financial advisor sent by management to oversee the crew's budget, though he knows less than zero about the music business. Peter Cambor  (NCIS: Los Angeles) is Milo, an offbeat American anglophile guitar tech, not big on personal hygiene, who revels in his road-worthy, skuzzy charm.</p><p><em>Roadies</em> is produced by Bad Robot Productions, Vinyl Films and Dooley & Company Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.</p><p>The shooting schedule was not revealed.</p>

                                <p>Showtime is looking to continue comedy <em>Happyish</em>, casting Steve Coogan in the lead role, originally slated for the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.</p><p>The new pilot for the series is now scheduled to be shot in December.</p><p>Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominee Coogan (<em>Philomena</em>, <em>Alan Partridge</em>) assumes the role of Thom Payne, a mid-40s man, whose world gets upended when his new boss is half his age.</p><p>The comedy was created by author Shalom Auslander, with Ken Kwapis on board to executive produce and direct the pilot. Kwapis' producing partner Alexandra Beattie will co-executive produce, under their In Cahoots banner.</p>
