The weekend TV sports lineup for the Mother’s Day holiday weekend starts on the pro basketball court with second round coverage of the NBA Playoffs. 

On Saturday, ABC will offer game three coverage of the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks series, followed by primetime coverage of the Memphis Grizzlies-Golden State Warriors game three contest. 

On Sunday, ESPN will televise game four of the Phoenix Suns-Dallas Mavericks series, followed by TNT game four coverage of the Miami Heat-Philadelphia 76’ers series. 

The WNBA opens the first weekend of its 2022 regular season with two matchups on Saturday – ESPN’s Connecticut Sun-New York Liberty and CBSSN’s Atlanta Dream-Dallas Wings telecasts – as well as a Sunday ESPN doubleheader featuring the Washington Mystics-Minnesota Lynx and Seattle Storm-Las Vegas Aces games.

On Saturday, the NHL playoffs continue with first round coverage of the Florida Panthers-Washington Capitals series on ESPN, followed by a TNT tripleheader that includes the Colorado Avalanche-Nashville Predators, NY Rangers-Pittsburgh Penguins and Calgary Flames-Dallas Stars series. 

NBC on Saturday will televise live the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs in Louisville. Also Saturday, the National Women’s Soccer League will hold its Challenge Cup final between the Washington Spirit and the North Carolina Courage, which will air live on CBS. 

In the octagon, ESPN Plus will stream the UFC 274 pay-per-view fight card featuring the main event match between lightweights Charles Oliveria and Justin Gaethje. In the ring, DAZN and PPV.com will offer the Canelo Alvarez-Dmitry Bivol light heavyweight championship fight.

On the links, CBS and Golf Channel will televise the final rounds of the PGA Wells Fargo Championship pro golf event. On the bowling lanes, Fox on Sunday will televise the semifinal round of the KIA PBA Playoffs.

ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast features National League rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Chicago Cubs. ■ 

The TV sports lineup for the last weekend of February starts on the basketball court as ABC and ESPN offer a full weekend of NBA action. 

ABC’s weekly Saturday primetime NBA game telecast will feature the Brooklyn Nets against the defending league champion Milwaukee Bucks. On Sunday, ABC airs an NBA doubleheader featuring the Philadelphia 76’ers-New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz-Phoenix Suns games. Sunday night, ESPN telecasts its own NBA doubleheader block, offering the Dallas Mavericks-Golden State Warriors and New Orleans Pelicans-Los Angeles Lakers contests.  

On the college basketball front, ESPN on Saturday will air games including top-ranked Gonzaga versus No. 23 Saint Mary’s, third-ranked Auburn battling No. 17 Tennessee, fourth-ranked Purdue facing off against Michigan State, fifth-ranked Kansas against No. 10 Baylor and ninth-ranked Duke taking on Syracuse. Other top 10 ranked teams in action Saturday include second-ranked Arizona-Colorado (ESPN2), No.6 Kentucky-No. 18 Arkansas (CBS) and No. 9 Texas Tech-TCU (ESPN2).

On the ice, ABC will televise a live Saturday afternoon NHL game between the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins, while TNT will air a primetime NHL matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Nashville Predators. On Sunday NHL Network will televise the Edmonton Oilers-Carolina Panthers and New York Islanders-Anaheim Ducks games. 

Showtime will offer a late Saturday night boxing card headlined by the Chris Colbert-Hector Luis Garcia junior lightweight bout. ESPN Plus will air a UFC Fight Night mixed martial arts bout between Islam Makhachev and Bobby Green.

Round three of the Guinness Six Nations Rugby tournament continues Saturday on CNBC with Scotland facing France and England battling Wales. On the soccer field, USA Network will offer two live Premier League games Saturday and one Sunday telecast. Sunday will also feature live Major League Soccer action on FS1 and ESPN. 

On Sunday, NBC will air the IndyCar Grand Prix of St. Petersburg auto race, while Fox offers the NASCAR Cup Wise Power 400 event. Fox will also televise the Pro Bowlers Association’s Tournament of Champions event.

On the links, NBC and Golf Channel will televise final round coverage of the PGA Honda Classic tournament. ■

The list of marquee TV sports events for the last weekend in January starts with the NFL Conference Championships.

On Sunday afternoon, CBS will televise the AFC Championship game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs, while later that evening Fox’s NFL Championship telecast will feature the San Francisco 49’ers and Los Angeles Rams. The winner of each game will meet in Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles on February 6, which will air live on NBC.

On the mixed martial arts front, Showtime on Saturday will televise live the Bellator 273 fight card featuring a main event heavyweight championship fight between Ryan Bader and Valentin Moldavsky.

ABC on Saturday will air a live primetime NBA game between the Brooklyn Nets and Golden State Warriors, while the NHL Network on Sunday will telecast the Seattle Kraken-New York Rangers hockey contest. 

ESPN on Saturday and Sunday morning will hit the tennis court for live coverage of the Australian Open women's and men's finals, respectively,  while on the auto racing track USA and NBC will offer weekend coverage of the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship. On Saturday, FS1 will offer live coverage of the Professional Bowlers Tour’s Players Championship Finals. 

The weekend college basketball lineup features several top ten-ranked teams playing on Saturday, including No. 1 Auburn hosting Oklahoma on ESPN and No. 3 Arizona against Arizona State on CBS. ESPN will also televise fourth-ranked Baylor against Alabama and fifth-ranked Kansas versus 12th-ranked Kentucky. ESPN2 will air seventh-ranked Houston’s game against UCF. On Sunday, CBS carries No. 6 Purdue against No. 16 Ohio State.

The TV sports landscape for penultimate weekend in January once again starts on the football field as the NFL launches its Divisional Playoffs round. 

On Saturday, CBS will televise an afternoon AFC playoff matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tennessee Titans, while Fox will air in primetime the NFC’s San Francisco 49’ers-Green Bay Packers playoffs contest. 

On Sunday, NBC will air the Los Angeles Rams-Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFC game, while CBS will telecast the Buffalo Bills-Kansas City Chiefs AFC game.

In the ring, Showtime will air a WBC featherweight title bout between champion Gary Russell Jr. and Mark Magsayo. From the octagon, ESPN Plus will distribute the UFC 270 pay-per-view event featuring the heavyweight title bout between champions Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane.

ESPN will continue its live Australian Open coverage beginning Saturday and Sunday morning, while the Golf Channel will offer weekend coverage of the LPGA Tournament of Champions and the PGA American Express golf tournaments.

NBC will air an afternoon Premier League game between Manchester City and Southampton, while USA Network will air Premier League games on Saturday and Sunday.   

The Pro Bowlers Association and Fox Sports kick off the PBA Tour’s 2022 season on Saturday and Sunday with live, regional round coverage of the PBA Players Championship on FS1.

The men’s college basketball schedule this weekend finds several top-ranked teams in action on national TV networks. On Saturday, second-ranked Auburn will take on 12th-ranked Kentucky on CBS, while fifth-ranked Baylor will battle Oklahoma on the Big Ten Network. Other games include No. 7 Kansas-Kansas State (Big 12 Network) and No. 10 Houston-East Carolina (ESPN 2).

On Sunday, Pac-12 Network will televise third-ranked Arizona’s matchup against California, and BTN will air the game between fourth-ranked Purdue and Northwestern.

Multichannel News’ R. Thomas Umstead takes to the lanes with Pro Bowlers Association Commissioner Tom Clark to discuss the PBA’s upcoming 2022 season, which launches in collaboration with Fox Sports on January 22. Clark also talks about the sport's long and storied history on television, as well as its future media plans. 

The National Hockey League will drop the puck on its postseason campaign Saturday, highlighting a busy weekend in live sports events.

NBC will kick off its postseason coverage with a Saturday primetime telecast featuring the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals matchup, while NHL Network will air the Vancouver Canucks-Edmonton Oilers game. On Sunday NBC will offer first round coverage of the New York Islanders-Pittsburgh Penguins and the Minnesota North Stars-Vegas Golden Knights series.

The NBA will wrap up its regular season slate Sunday with an ESPN doubleheader with playoff implications featuring the Boston Celtics at the New York Knicks game and the Memphis Grizzlies at the Golden State Warriors contest.

The WNBA will launch its 2021 season opening weekend with a pair of games on ABC Saturday and two games Sunday on CBSSN. 

On Saturday NBC will rev up its engines to air the IndyCar Series GMR Grand Prix race, while Fox will take to the bowling lanes on Sunday with live coverage of the PBA Finals. CBS and the Golf Channel will feature weekend coverage of the PGA’s Byron Nelson golf tournament, while ESPN will offer Sunday Night Baseball coverage of the St. Louis Cardinals-San Diego Padres contest.

Showtime will air a Saturday night tripleheader boxing card featuring the Luis Nery-Brandon Figueroa super bantamweight championship bout, while the UFC offers its UFC 262 pay-per-view fight card featuring the Charles Oliveira-Michael Chandler lightweight championship main event.

The UFC 261 pay-per-view event highlights a packed weekend of live sports programming. 

ESPN Plus will stream the UFC 261 mixed martial arts fight card, headlined by the Kamaru Usman-Jorge Masvidal welterweight fight. Other combat sports include ESPN’s Saturday night boxing card featuring the Emanuel Navarrete-Christopher Diaz featherweight bout. 

ABC’s Saturday night primetime NBA telecast will feature the Los Angeles Lakers against the Dallas Mavericks, while sister sports network ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball telecast will feature the San Diego Padres-Los Angeles Dodgers game. 

NBC will air two NHL hockey games this weekend, including Saturday’s Colorado Avalanche-St. Louis Blues game and Sunday’s Boston Bruins-Pittsburgh Penguins contest. 

CBS will take to the links for weekend coverage of the Zurich Classic PGA golf tournament, while FS1 will offer Saturday and Sunday coverage of the Pro Bowler’s Association’s Round of 16 Kia Playoffs. 

In auto sports, Fox will televise the NASCAR Xfinity Series Ag-Pro 300 race on Saturday and the Geico 500 NASCAR Cup race on Sunday.

 A bevy of live sports content is slated for the penultimate weekend in February. 

ESPN will air live early morning coverage of the Australian Open women’s finals match between Jennifer Brady and Naomi Osaka, followed on Sunday morning with the men’s finals matchup. 

ABC will hit the basketball court Saturday night with its telecast of the Miami Heat-Los Angeles Lakers game -- a rematch of the 2020 NBA Finals -- while Sunday night ESPN will telecast the Brooklyn Nets-Los Angeles Clippers game in primetime. 

Showtime and ESPN will feature live Saturday night primetime boxing cards. Showtime’s telecast will offer a main event fight featuring former welterweight champion Adrien Broner against Jovanie Santiago, while ESPN will offer a junior lightweight title fight between champion Miguel Berchelt and Oscar Valedez.

On Sunday afternoon Fox will air the Pro Bowler’s Association Players Championship, followed by coverage of the NASCAR Cup Series auto racing event. Also on Sunday, Golf Channel and CBS will team to air the final rounds of the PGA Tour Genesis Invitational golf tournament. 

College basketball continues to march toward next month’s March Madness tournament with several matchups between top-ranked schools. On Sunday third-ranked Michigan travels to face fourth-ranked Ohio State on CBS  in the weekend’s marquee matchup, while on Saturday ABC will air the matchup between 13th-ranked West Virginia and 12-ranked Texas, and ESPN will televise 15th-ranked Texas Tech against 23rd-ranked Kansas. 

NBC will take to the rink for a Saturday afternoon NHL matchup between the Las Vegas Golden Nights and the Colorado Avalanche and on Sunday with coverage of the Philadelphia Flyers-Boston Bruins game. 

Add professional bowling to the list of live sports events returning to television amid the COVID-19 pandemic as Fox Sports will televise a series of Professional Bowlers Association events beginning June 6.

Fox broadcasting will televise the June 6 primetime PBA Strike Derby event in which eight PBA bowlers will compete in an elimination competition to see how many strikes can be bowled within two minutes, according to the PBA.

Other events include the June 13 PBA Summer Clash, a one ball elimination format that will feature both PBA and Professional Women’s Bowler Association Tour players, and a four-night live PBA King of the Lanes series on FS1 which will launch in July.

All events will be held at Bowlero Jupiter in Florida without fans in attendance and an abundance of caution towards the safety of the players, officials and TV production crew, according to Fox Sports and the PBA.  

"We are so excited to be one of the first properties bringing live sports back to broadcast television," PBA CEO Colie Edison said in a statement. "This dynamic series of events will showcase the immense talent of our elite bowlers to a wide audience and we look forward to welcoming new fans to the Professional Bowlers Association."

NeuLion, a provider of live and on-demand digital video distribution systems, said it has renewed its deal with the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) and helped it introduce upgrades for PBA Xtra Frame, an OTT service.

The upgraded OTT offering, which includes new mobile apps and an enhanced HD video player,  was introduced in time for the PBA’s first “major” of the season, this week’s PBA Firelake Tournament of Champions, NeuLion said.

The PBA launched Xtra Frame with NeuLion in 2010. Xtra Fame offers live and on-demand events, including all PBA, PBA50 and PWBA Tour events and archived ESPN telecasts. It fetches $3.99 for a three-day pass, $7.99 per month, or $64.99 per year. 

ESPN will roll out a number of live PBA bowling events during its 2014-15 PBA schedule, the network said Friday.

ESPN will begin its 35th season of PBA coverage this Sunday with the PBA Cheetah Championship, one of a number of big events that include live February coverage of the USBC Masters in February and live presentation of the Barbasol PBA Tournament of Champions, as well as the CP3 Celebrity Invitational charity event, said network officials.

Mike Jakubowski will again serve as ESPN’s PBA play-by-play voice along with longtime ESPN bowling analyst and PBA Hall of Famer Randy Pedersen, said network officials.
