Things just got a little steamier for Cox Communications subscribers who crave more telenovelas in their life.

Cox Communications has added Hemisphere Media Group’s Pasiones pay TV network to its Latino Pak video service in Las Vegas; Orange County/Palos Verdes, Calif.; Phoenix; San Diego; Tucson; and across the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Pasiones devotes its lineup to female-friendly telenovelas and dramatic series, with U.S. and Latin American feeds. Both iterations offer a mix of first-run premieres and popular series from the world’s largest novela and content providers.

Cox’s Latino Pak subscribers will get Pasiones just in time to watch three series premieres:

• Gabriela, a co-production between TV Globo and Warner Bros., based on the classic Jorge Amado novel Gabriela, Clavo y Canela, is the tale of a beautiful, young, and deprived immigrant who arrives to a city in northeastern Brazil and mesmerizes everyone with her sensuality. New episodes air at 9 p.m. (ET) Monday-Friday.

• Inolvidable, a Turkish import about a love triangle that will turn two sisters against each other. A debut date and time has not yet been announced.

• Ella Era Bonita, a Korean drama about two young friends who meet again after they've gone through a reversal of fortunes and appearances. New episodes are presently airing at 4 p.m. (ET/PT).

Meanwhile, Hemisphere’s Puerto Rico-centric WAPA America cable network has been added to Cox’s Latino Pak in Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, Tucson and its cities in Orange County, Calif. and the Palos Verdes peninsula between Torrance and Long Beach, Calif.

“We are thrilled to expand our long-standing partnership with Cox, which now carries all of Hemisphere’s networks,” Hemisphere president Alan J. Sokol said in a statement. “Pasiones is the leading television destination for Hispanic women, and WAPA America is the only network that caters specifically to Caribbean Hispanics—the second-largest and fastest-growing Hispanic group in the country. These launches reinforce Cox’s commitment to serving the Hispanic community with the highest-quality Spanish-language programming, and we are confident that these additions will help drive new subscriptions.”

Cast members include Ahmet Rifat Sungar, Özgü Namal and Ibrahim Celikkol; dialogue is dubbed into Spanish.

The soap aired in Turkey from February 2013 to March 2014. It tells the story of heroine Narin, who overcomes the abuse of her alcoholic father, the disparagement of her mother and brother and the challenges of growing up in a poor Turkish town in order to follow her dreams and go to law school in Istanbul. Once there, she is overwhelmed by the big city’s fast pace and harsh environment, but soon finds comfort when she moves in with a wealthy girl. However, happiness is challenged by betrayal and violence.

“In recent years, Turkish dramas have become a sensation throughout Latin America, and interest in these high-quality drama-packed productions continues to grow among Latin American audiences,” Hemisphere president and CEO Alan J. Sokol said. “We pride ourselves in bringing our viewers the best novelas and dramas from around the world, which is why we are extremely excited to be the first network in the U.S. to air Mercy.”

MundoFox, now RCN-owned MundoMax, has seen success in primetime over the last 18 months with two Turkish soap operas: Suleimán and Sura y Seyit, Amor en Guerra. Azteca, meanwhile, added Kaçak at 10 p.m. weeknights at the start of 2016.

The international market for Turkish soaps heated up in 2013, with Latin America a particularly strong market. El Sultán enjoyed a major marketing push in 2014 for Chile’s Canal 13. The lineup addition came after Thousand and One Nights became a ratings success for rival Chilean network Mega, leading to the addition of two more Turkish imports — Ezel and What is Fatmagul’s Fault.

From Chile, Turkish telenovelas dubbed into Spanish were soon added to networks in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Uruguay, and Ecuador.

The changes are tied to an increased effort to lure Hispanic women to the channel, the network said.

“We have dramatically increased our investment in content and have now updated our look to reflect our identity,” Francisco Gimenez, general manager of cable networks for Pasiones parent Hemisphere Media Group, said in a statement. “This rebrand reflects our premium status and top-rate programming, and reinforces our commitment to make Pasiones the leading destination for women."

Carolina Bilbao, Hemisphere’s creative director, led the channel repositioning and rebranding. Bilbao and the programming team also worked with Eloisa Iturbe, a Buenos Aires, Argentina-based branding agency, on the reimaging.

“Our channel name clearly states what we are about, but we needed our logo and on-air look to convey the emotions that our novelas and dramas incite,” Bilbao said. “Our new look establishes a very personal relationship with the viewer. Our logo is handwritten and the heart is at the center of it, as it is with everything on our channel. The on-air environment is warm and inviting, and its unique handwritten elements will connect to the programming in a very personal way.”

Pasiones has agreements in place with major producers and distributors from around the world, including Televisa, Telemundo, TV Globo, Caracol, Sony, Cisneros Media Distribution, Artear, and Telefe.

Pasiones , the telenovela-centric, Hispanic-targeted cable network, has acquired the rights to three Spanish-language soap operas under a newly minted agreement with Sony Pictures Television.

Marking its return to U.S. cable for the first time since its premiere on Telemundo eight years ago is El Zorro: La Espada y La Rosa, airing on Pasiones weekdays at 6 p.m. (ET). Also included in the three-telenovela deal are two other series that ran on Telemundo: Doña Barbara, which originally aired in 2008-09, and La Prepago, a 2013 series produced for RCN Television in Colombia. Their premiere dates were not announced.

“This deal with Sony reinforces our commitment to deliver top-quality telenovelas and series with proven success records across Latin America to our viewers,” said Francisco Gimenez, GM of cable networks for Hemisphere Media Group, which owns Pasiones and also includes WAPA América among its holdings.

Separately, Pasiones has signed a deal with Televisa to acquire the Latin American broadcast rights to the telenovelas Corazon Salvaje, Sortilegio and Triunfo del Amor. The network is prohibited from airing the shows in the U.S. due to Televisa’s relationship with Univision.

Pasiones will add other telenovelas acquired from Televisa to its LatAm feed later this year.
