Showtime will shine a light on some of the greatest New York-born, basketball point guards in a new sports documentary series set to premiere July 29.

The documentary, NYC Point Gods, focuses on such 1980’s and 1990’s point guards as Rafer Alston, Kenny Anderson, Mark Jackson, Stephon Marbury, God Shammgod, Kenny Smith, Rod Strickland and Dwayne “Pearl” Washington as they helped shaped and advance the game of basketball, according to Showtime.

NYC Point Guards also features rare footage of the point guards, as well as interviews with such sports and celebrity personalities as Stephen A. Smith, Cam’ron, Fat Joe, Lou Carnesecca, Jim Boeheim and Rick Pitino.

“As a basketball fan who marveled at the skill and showmanship of each of these point gods, I couldn’t be prouder of this film for its faithful depiction of a special time and special place in basketball history,” said Showtime Networks Inc. President of Sports & Event Programming Stephen Espinoza in a statement. “New York City produced some of the greatest showmen and floor generals in basketball history, players whose creativity and style – and signature moves –  continue to influence the game today.” 

NYC Point Guards is produced by Showtime Documentary Films alongside NBA superstar Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman’s Boardroom, said the network. ■

Broadcast infrastructure company Radio Frequency Systems (RFS), which is installing NextGen TV-capable equipment atop One World Trade Center, says it is on track to deliver an ATSC 3.0 signal to more than 7 million New York City-area residents by the end of this year.

RFS has been working on the project since 2015 and said it will represent the first high-power ATSC 3.0 signal in the largest U.S. TV market.

The new transmission standard allows for higher definition pictures, interactivity and mobile TV delivery and will be used as the next-gen TV home of a trio of noncommercial stations — WNET New York, WLIW Garden City and the NJ PBS network — in the WNET Group.

“We want to be a leader in the broadcast space and ATSC 3.0 adoption is a key part of this,” WNET director of broadcast engineering and technology Frank Graybill said. “The system designed by RFS has the flexibility that will allow us to be nimble and adapt to several scenarios with this deployment.”

The first new TV antennas went up on One World Trade Center in 2016, making the move from the Empire State Building. WNET and New York’s other stations had been on the Empire State Building since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks brought down their former homes atop the World Trade Center.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will team with Macy's to run the classic holiday movie Miracle On 34th Street all day Nov. 20 outside of Macy's famed Herald Square New York City store, the network said Thursday.

The movie, which helped launch the Macy's Thaksgiving Day parade into a national event, will be screened for fans outside Macy's Herald Square next Thursday beginning at 8:15 a.m., with the final presentation scheduled for 8 p.m. During the 6:15 screening, TCM host Robert Osborne and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade executive producer Amy Kule will be on hand to deliver a special holiday greeting on behalf of TCM and Macy's, said the network..

"We can't wait to celebrate our second year of Miracle on 34th Street screenings with Macy's in Herald Square," said Jennifer Dorian, general manager of Turner Classic Movies in a statement. "This very special event combines one of the most cherished Christmas movies of all time with the magic of New York City during the holidays. At TCM, it's our mission to share the greatest movies of all time with new audiences, and this is a treat for the whole family.”
