A number of veteran shows will debut with new seasons this week as the calendar turns to October.

On Oct. 6, AMC’s horror/drama series The Walking Dead will premiere its 10th season, while USA Network’s thriller Mr. Robot (pictured) will debut its fourth and final season.

Debuting Oct. 4 is the third season of Prime Video legal drama Goliath and the fifth season of Netflix drama Peaky Blinders.

The 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on ABC Monday night suffered a slight ratings decline from 2015, to an average 11.3 million viewers, but won praise for Jimmy Kimmel's hosting and for a multiculturalroster of winners. 

It also had some moments that made viewers take notice and maybe rewind a few times.

TiVo Research said today that the five most engaging moments -- based on an analysis of a 30,000-household sample of 350,000 households using the TiVo service -- during the Emmy telecast were these:

• No. 5 (9:26 p.m.): Sarah Paulson wins Best Actress in Limited Run Series for The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story and says "I had one of those mouth wetting drops and now I can't feel my face.”
• No. 4 (9:37 p.m.): Kyle Chandler and Michelle Dockery give award for Outstanding TV Movie to Sherlock: The Abominable Bride.
• No. 3 (8:26 p.m.): Kate McKinnon wins Best Supporting Actress in a comedy series for NBC's Saturday Night Live. McKinnon stands and pulls her notes out of the top of her dress.
• No. 2 (10:26 p.m.): Taraji P. Henson presents Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Award to Ben Mendelsohn for Netflix's Bloodlines. As the actor is not present, Henson says: "Ben couldn't make it, I'm going to accept it on his behalf. I'll have it at home when you get back, Ben. Thanks."
• No. 1 (10:40 p.m.): Rami Malek wins Best Actor Award in a Drama Series for USA's Mr. Robot. He says, using a line from his character in the show: "Please tell me you're seeing this too."

TiVo says gauges interest by measuring the percentage of the TiVo audience watching content in "play" speed. The most engaging moments are determined by looking for program content with the biggest bump in viewership relative to the surrounding 15 minutes of programming.

The stage is set this Sunday for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, TV’s biggest awards night.

As the event approaches, there are still a number of plots and subplots to be unwound during the three-hour telecast.

Broadcast network ABC will televise live the Emmy Awards beginning at 7 p.m. ET with a red carpet pre-show. The awards, hosted by late night host Jimmy Kimmel, will air at 8 p.m.

Here are three questions that will make ABC’s telecast a must see for television fans:

Can HBO, Game Of Thrones continue to slaughter the Emmys field?

HBO was the big winner during last year’s Emmys, sweeping the best drama series (Game Of Thrones), best comedy series (Veep) and best limited series categories (Olive Kitterage) on its way 14 primetime Emmys wins and 43 total Emmy statuettes. HBO already leads the field after winning 16 Creative Arts Emmys last weekend – nine alone from Game Of Thrones,which won a record 12 Emmys in 2015.

Will cable and streaming services steal all the drama from the broadcasters?

The big four broadcast networks will haave a tough time winning Emmy awards in most of the major drama categories as cable networks and streaming video services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon dominate the list of nominees. PBS’s outgoing series Downton Abby was the only non-cable/streaming series nominated in the best drama category, while no actor from a broadcast originated show is in the running for best male performance. Among the ladies, only Empire’s Taraji P. Henson and How To Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis are representing broadcast networks in the best drama actress category.

The comedy category is nearly as big a wipeout for the broadcasters, with only five broadcast-based shows and performers among the 19 nominations across best comedy series, best actor and best actress categories.

Will freshman series and actors of color generate the biggest Emmy headlines?

First year shows such as USA’s Mr. Robot, Netflix’s Making A Murderer and Masters Of None, AMC’s The Night Manager, FX’s Baskets, could upstage their more veteran counterparts in a number of key categories. Also, actors of color – earning a record 21 Emmy nominations this year including nods in key comedy, drama and limited series races -- could be among the big winners of the evening. 

NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke told analysts Wednesday that smaller networks at large programming companies could be under pressure as those content providers continue to focus on their bigger brands.

Speaking on a conference call with analysts to discuss parent Comcast’s second quarter results, Burke remembered the cable operator’s initial purchase of NBCU, and how it said that ultimately it would look to reduce the number of overall channels at the company. Today, that is becoming reality at NBCU – it rebranded its Style Network as Esquire Network and shuttered its G4 channel in 2013 – and with other content companies as well.

“We and most other large media companies are concentrating on their big brands,” Burke said on the call. “We had a network called G4 and a network called Style, neither one currently exists. I think you will see more of that with us and others as the discussions with MVPDs get more and more contentious. You want to make sure that your big networks are fully supported and you’re more willing to reallocate. Normally when you do those reallocations they’re not all that negative for the content owner because you can take some of the programming and fees and ad sales and consolidate them on some of your bigger networks”

Burke said the focus on its larger brands like broadcaster NBC and cable channels like USA Network, Syfy, Bravo and others makes the programming bundle more compelling.

“The good news for us is if you have NBC, you really need to be in a bundle, if you have USA it needs to be in a bundle, if you have Syfy or Bravo or E! those are big substantial networks that are in the bundle,” Burke said. “We make most of our money in those big channels. And we’ve trimmed and I think you’ll see us and others continue to trim some of the more marginal channels. There are just too many channels. People are spending too much programming channels that are not fully distributed. You’d much rather put your money and have Mr. Robot on USA and The Voice and Blindspot on NBC and really go with your strong networks.

Burke continued that it is an ongoing process, and NBCU sees more to be done.

“I think there is more to do,” Burke said. “I don’t think it is going to have a material impact on the way our profitability looks in terms of cable channels one way or the other – it might be slightly positive.  I think it will evolve itself over the next number of years. We’ll continue to invest what we need to invest in the big guys and try to trim some of the smaller ones.”

The 47th year of Comic-Con, the country’s longest-run comics and popular arts convention comes back with talents both old and new. TBS and Conan return, with new partnerships AT&T and Snickers, with much to offer. Conan and AT&T are bringing in-broadcast virtual reality with 360-degree camera angles. Fans that couldn’t make it to the convention will have virtual reality access to the shows at San Diego’s Spreckels Theatre which includes on-stage interviews, audience interaction and more.

At TBS’s Comic-Con International booth, attendees will receive a VR headset shaped like a Conan Pop! Vinyl figure to get a 360-degree peek into Conan O’Brien’s world.

O’Brien will have the casts of Suicide Squad, Supergirl,Game of Thrones, and more on his late-night show right next to the San Diego Convention Center.

Snickers is playing up on their “You’re not you when you’re hungry” campaign with fans dressing up as fictional superheroes created for the event.

Syfy is debuting their first-ever live broadcast, Syfy Presents Live From Comic-Con, hosted by Will Arnett. Those unable to attend Comic-Con in person can tune-in so they don’t miss a thing. Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Elijah Wood (Dirk Gently), the cast of Mr. Robot, Jamie Alexander (Blindspot), Tony Hale (Veep), Will Forte (Last Man On Earth), and Zachary Levi (Heroes Reborn) are to appear in the broadcast. Each night, Arnett and his team will discuss the convention’s breaking news, insider party coverage, and exclusive content of upcoming films and TV series, like Star Trek Beyond.

Cast and creators of Syfy’s The Magicians and The Expanse and USA’s Mr. Robot and Colony will appear at panels over the weekend at SDCC. New fall shows Incorporated (Syfy) and Falling Water (USA) will feature exclusive pilot screenings. Mr. Robot made its Comic-Con debut this year, with discussion of the series’ second season, moderated by Chris Hardwick.

On Friday, July 22, WGN’s Salem will have a panel event, unveiling an extended sneak peak followed by an audience Q&A. WGN America released the season three full-length trailer for the supernatural thriller, set to premiere Halloween week this year.

Outside of the Convention Center, there is more to do, with FX and Fox’s three-story Mount Zephyria Mighty Rock Climb & Free Fall. Adult Swim’s carnival is set up right next to it.

Fear the Walking Dead will have a panel with the cast and executive producers Friday July 22. A Fear the Walking Dead yacht will be open to attendees wanting to experience life aboard the Abigail for the duration of Comic-Con, located at Fifth Avenue Pier behind the Convention Center.

AMC’s new late-night talk show, Geeking Out premieres Sunday, July 24, specially covering all things Comic-Con. Comic Book Men’s Kevin Smith and Heroes’ Greg Grunberg host. Smith and Grunberg give viewers an all-access VIP pass through the convention. A preview of Star Trek Beyond and a look into the cosplayers who show up at Comic-Con are in the episode, among interviews and first-looks.

Comedy Central brings the raunchiness they’re known for at SDCC with Drunk History, South Park 20 Experience, and The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail. There are panels featuring Drunk History, new animated series Legends of Chamberlain Heights and South Park 20. South Park celebrates its 20th season with screenings of episodes, artwork, and more. In addition, music artist, That Poppy, will broadcast the events on Comedy Central’s Snapchat.

The BBC America booth returns back to Comic-Con, with merchandise from Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Orphan Black, featuring item exclusive only to the convention.

Nickelodeon and The Splat brings the ultimate 90’s throwback experience for SDCC this year, with games, panels, signings and more. Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Arnold!, Double Dare, Aaah!!! Real Monsters, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Invader Zim are some of the featured shows that are at the convention. Nickelodeon’s booth will feature a VR 360-experience into the upcoming Legends of the Hidden Temple live-action TV movie, allowing fans to experience the Mayan temple first-hand. Signings by the cast of All That, Legends of the Hidden Temple, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are few of many opportunities at the convention.

Disney XD’s new series, DuckTales, debuted a collectible comic, DuckTales Cinestory Volume 1which will be available until September 27 of this year. Exclusive teaser art from the series appears on the back of the comic, which retells the first five episodes of the original DuckTales TV show.

As co-host of the 68th annual Emmy Awards nominations ceremony Thursday, black-ish star Anthony Anderson was overjoyed to read his name as an Emmy nominee for lead actor in a comedy series. 

He also enthusiastically cheered when his co-star Tracee Ellis Ross was nominated in the comedy lead actress category and when black-ish was chosen among the nominees for best comedy.

But Anderson’s humorous exploits were among only a few things the broadcast networks had to cheer about during the unveiling of the Emmy Awards nominations.

In recognizing the television industry’s incredible and unprecedented breadth and depth of content, the Television Academy this year leaned more toward cable networks as well as online streaming services like Netflix and Amazon when voting for the best quality series, original movies, limited series and original movies on television.

The big four broadcast networks were nearly shut out of the major drama categories, with Empire’s Taraji P. Henson and How To Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis' nominations in the drama lead actress category keeping cable, PBS and online services from a complete sweep.

Moreover, cable nets and streaming services also generated a good portion of Emmy nominations for new shows that could rack up multiple Emmy Award nominations and wins in the years to come.

From freshman series such as Netflix’s Masters of None, which garnered nominations in the best Comedy and Best comedy actor categories for star Aziz Ansari, to USA’s sophomore thriller Mr. Robot -- a contender for best drama and best actor for breakout star Rami Malek -- the Emmy newbies were mostly from the cable and online arena.

That’s not to say that the broadcast networks are obsolete or incapable developing strong, new shows. But right now, the Academy has acknowledged that for this Emmy run the best and brightest new shows are on cable networks and online SVOD services.

Anderson’s enthusiasm for black-ish’s Emmy nominations could also be extended to television’s continued advancements in bringing quality, diverse shows, storylines and characters to the small screen. Non-white actors garnered a record 21 Emmy nominations this year, surpassing last year’s record of 18, according to Deadline.com.

FX’s American Crime Story: People v. O.J. Simpson and ABC’s black-ish led the way with multiple actors of color earning Emmy nominations, while the aforementioned Henson and Davis will again vie for lead actress honors in the drama category (Davis won last year, becoming the first African-American female actress to do so in the category). 

The stage is now set for a very fascinating Emmy Awards celebration in September. Bring on the winners. 

Cable and online subscription video on demand services dominated nominations for many of the major Emmy Award categories announced Thursday morning. 

Cable networks and streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon virtually swept the best drama and best comedy categories for the 68th annual Emmy Awards, according to the Television Academy. PBS’ Downton Abby in its final year of eligibility was the only broadcast network nominated in a list that included last year’s winner HBO’ Game Of Thrones, FX’s The Americans, AMC’s Better Call Saul, Showtime’s Homeland, Netflix’s House of Cards and USA’s Mr. Robot.

On the comedy side, ABC’s Black-ish and Modern Family will battle Netflix’s Master of None and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, HBO’s Silicon Valley and Veep, and Amazon’s Transparent.

Cable also had a strong showing on the limited series front with FX’s Fargo, History’s Roots, AMC’s The Night Manager, and FX’s The People Vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story all garnering nominations. ABC's American Crime rounded out the list. 

Overall, HBO generated 94 nominations to lead all distributors, followed by FX with 56 nominations and Netflix with 54 nods. NBC pulled in 41 nominations, while fellow broadcasters ABC and CBS earned 35 nominations each. Pay TV network Showtime garnered 22 nominations, according to the Academy.

HBO's Game of Thrones tallied the most show nominations with 23, while FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Fargo received 22 nominations and 18 nominations respectively, according to the Academy.

USA Network Monday said it has postponed the July 19 premiere of its new dramatic series Shooter following last week's horrific police shooting in Dallas.

The series, based on the 2007 movie of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg, will now debut on July 26. Shooter, starring Ryan Phillipe, centers on a U.S. veteran and American hero who is trying to clear his name after beng wrongly accused of a crime.

“In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series Shooter, to July 26,” the network said in a statement.

USA last August delayed the final episode of freshman series Mr. Robot, which featured a fictional on-air shooting, in light of a real-life shooting of a local TV reporter in Virginia.

TNT last month delayed the season three premiere of The Last Ship, which depicted a mass shooting, in the wake of the June 12 mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla.

USA Network will launch an after show series for the upcoming season of Mr. Robot, network executives said Wednesday.

The drama series starring Rami Malek will also increase its second season episode output to12 from its original order of 10, said the network. The series' sophomore season debuts July 13.

The live, one-hour after show, Hacking Robot, will also debut July 13 immediately following the series’ two-episode season premiere, said the network.

“The first season of Mr. Robot was everything we hoped for – and then some,” said Chris McCumber, President Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment in a statement. “So it’s no surprise that Sam and team have raised the bar even more in season two. From the first moments of the new season, it’ll be clear that audiences are in for something incredibly special and wholly unexpected.”

HBO and FX generated the most nominations for this year's TCA Awards, the Television Critics Association announced Wednesday.

HBO garnered 12 nominations and FX drew 11 to lead  a list five broadcast networks, 12 cable networks and streaming service Netflix nominated for 2016 TCA Awards.

USA Network’s thriller Mr. Robot and FX’s limited series The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story earned four TCA Awards nods each to lead numerous cable and broadcast shows nominated in a variety of categories including News and Information, Youth, Reality, Drama and Comedy, said the TCA. 

Winners of the TCA Awards will be announced Aug. 6, during the TCA Summer Press Tour, at a ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. Jane The Virgin star Jaime Camil will host the event, according to TCA officials.

USA Network’s head of programming Jackie De Crinis is leaving the network after signing a production deal with Universal Cable Productions, the company said Wednesday.

De Crinis, most recently served as executive vice president of original programming for USA, will develop and produce original projects for the studio as part of the new agreement with Universal Cable Productions.  One of her first projects is original drama Eyewitness, based on the Norwegian crime drama of the same name, according to the studio.

De Crinis is responsible for developing such USA hits as Mr. Robot, Royal Pains, Suits, Psych and Monk.

“Jackie is an exceptional talent and has developed some of the most iconic shows on television,” said Dawn Olmstead, Executive Vice President, Development, Universal Cable Productions sai9d in a statement. “I look forward to bringing her insight and experience as a producer to our team. We are fortunate to have her.”

Cable networks drew the lion’s share of Critics Choice Award wins during the show’s live telecast last night (Jan. 17).

FX won four awards – all drawn by the network’s limited series Fargo – to lead all cable and broadcast networks, followed by USA Network with three wins for its freshman drama series Mr. Robot. HBO, Netflix, Fox and CBS all tallied multiple Critics Choice Awards with two each, according to the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) and The Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA).

USA’s Mr. Robot was awarded Best Drama Series, while Netflix’s Master Of None won the Best Comedy Series statuette. Fargo was tapped as best made for television or limited series, according to the BTJA.

A&E, Lifetime and LMN aired live the 21st Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, hosted by actor and comedian T.J. Miller.

USA's Mr. Robot and Amazon Video's Mozart in the Jungle each took home a pair of Golden Globe Awards Sunday night. 

Mr. Robot won the Globe for best TV series, drama, and creator Sam Esmail gave credit to USA's Alex Sepiol and Jackie De Crinis who "really backed this show from the beginning." Christian Slater (pictured before the ceremony in Beverly Hills) claimed the Globe for best performance by an actor in a supporting role for a series, limited series or TV movie for Mr. Robot.

The Globe for best TV series, musical or comedy, went to Amazon's Mozart in the Jungle. Best performance by an actor in a TV series, musical or comedy, went to Gael Garcia Bernal for Mozart in the Jungle. 

In other TV Globes: 

--The first TV award of the night went to Maura Tierney as best supporting actress in a series, limited series or TV movie, for her portrayal of Helen Solloway in Showtime's The Affair.

--The Globe for best performance by an actress in a TV musical or comedy, went to Rachel Bloom for The CW's Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

--The Globe for best limited series or TV movie went to Wolf Hall on PBS.

--Best performance by an actor in a limited series or TV movie went to Oscar Isaac for HBO's Show Me a Hero.

--Mad Men's Jon Hamm won for best performance by an actor in a television series -- drama.

--The Globe for an actress in a limited series or TV movie went to Lady Gaga for playing The Countess in FX's American Horror Story: Hotel; she declared it was "one of the greatest moments of my life."

--Empire's Taraji Henson won for best performance by an actress in a TV series, drama. She credited numerous Fox executives and pleaded for more speech time. 

Better Call Saul,Mr. Robot,Veep and Mad Men are among a bevy of new and veteran shows nominated for 2016 Writers Guild Awards, the Writers Guild of America announced Thursday.

AMC’s Saul and USA’s Mr. Robot will battle Mad Men-- in its last year of eligibility -- along with HBO’s Game Of Thrones and FX’s The Americans in the best drama category, according to the Guild.

In the best comedy series category, Comedy Central’s Broad City will face off against HBO’s Silicon Valley and Veep; Amazon’s Transparent and Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The Writer’s Guild Awards winners will be announced Feb. 13, according to the organization.

The season finale of USA Network’s drama series Mr. Robot easily dominated all broadcast and cable shows in social media last night.

The season one finale, which was postponed a week after the Aug. 26 fatal shooting of two TV journalists in Virginia because the episode contained a scene in which a character shoots himself on live TV, drew 41,000 Tweets reaching 1.1 million unique Twitter users, according to Nielsen.

Overall, the series, which has already been renewed for a second season, drew 1.2 million viewers in its Wednesday night finale, according to Nielsen.

Mr. Robot beat out broadcast shows The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC) Big Brother (CBS) The Carmichael Show (NBC) and America’s Got Talent (NBC) on the Twitter TV rating list for Wednesday night, said Nielsen.
