Fox Weather has named Haley Meier the inaugural recipient of an annual scholarship it gives out with Mississippi State University. The program is designed to support candidates in their pursuit of a career in broadcast meteorology. 

Meier is a junior at Mississippi State, majoring in broadcast meteorology. 

“We are proud to recognize Haley Meier as our first Mississippi State University scholarship recipient,” said Sharri Berg, Fox Weather president. “As we look to foster the next generation of broadcast meteorologists, we are confident this scholarship will help students take the next step in chasing their dreams.”

Meier is also weekend morning meteorologist at WTVA Tupelo. The scholarship will be applied to her 2022-23 school year. 

“I am incredibly honored for the opportunity to work with such an entrepreneurial organization that is committed to the advancement and continued innovation of meteorological sciences,” said Meier. 

The endowment is set up in perpetuity and features a scholarship, a Fox Weather internship and a mentorship from a Fox Weather meteorologist.

Fox Weather is partnering with the Mississippi State University Foundation on a scholarship initiative designed to increase diversity in the meteorology field. The commitment establishes an endowed scholarship fund for students studying weather forecasting at Mississippi State, which sends numerous grads into weather roles on television. 

Students will be eligible to receive an annual scholarship starting in 2022. Fox Weather will also provide an internship along with a dedicated mentor within Fox Weather for each recipient throughout their time in college. 

An AVOD streaming service, Fox Weather launched Oct. 25. 

“Fox Weather is proud to partner with Mississippi State University to help deserving students fulfill their career aspirations, while increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in the field of meteorology,” said Fox Weather president Sharri Berg. 

Fox Weather did not specify the dollar value of the scholarship. Preference will be given to upper-level undergraduates with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Broadcast network CBS’s coverage of the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards drew the most social media interactions for a TV show on Sunday, outdistancing the seventh season finale of AMC’s The Walking Dead, according to Nielsen.

The Country Music Awards drew 2.2 million Twitter and Facebook interactions from more than 1.3 million unique social media accounts, besting The Walking Dead, which drew 1.8 million social media interactions from 967,000 unique accounts, according to Nielsen.

HBO’s drama series Big Little Lies, Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta and ABC’s Once Upon A Time rounded out the top five most social TV shows on Sunday.

ESPN’s Chicago Cubs-St. Louis Cardinals Major League Baseball opening day telecast, and its coverage of the Mississippi State-South Carolina NCAA Women’s college basketball tournament finals dominated social media traffic for live sports events, with each telecast averaging more than 1 million social media interactions, said network officials.
