Singer Miley Cyrus will tout her upcoming album in a new Disney Plus special debuting March 10.

The special, Miley Cyrus -- Endless Summer Vacation (Backyard Sessions), will feature the former star of Disney Channel series Hanna Montana performing new music from her new album Endless Vacation, including her Billboard chart topping song Flowers. The special will also feature a special Cyrus performance with singer Rufus Wainwright, according to the streaming service.  

The special continues Cyrus's series of YouTube-based "Backyard Sessions" where Cyrus performs her songs in an intimate setting, according to Disney Plus. 

Cyrus will serve as executive producer for the The Disney Channel Branded Television special, which is produced RadicalMedia, HopeTown Entertainment, Crush Management and Columbia Records.■

Performers lined up for Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party on NBC include singer-songwriter Sia, rapper Latto, rock band Liily, hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd and singer-songwriter Fletcher. 

Saturday Night Live cast member Chloe Fineman, comedienne Sarah Sherman and comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy will also appear.

Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton host the telecast December 31. The live event goes 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET. 

Lorne Michaels and Miley Cyrus executive produce, and Jesse Ignjatovic and Evan Prager executive produce for Den of Thieves. Tish Cyrus’ Hopetown Entertainment produces and Joe DeMaio directs.

The special airs live from Miami Dec. 31, starting at 10:30 p.m. and ending at 12:30 a.m. Peacock will stream the special live. 

Singer Cyrus got her start on Hannah Montana. She has a development deal with NBCU and has been the musical guest on Saturday Night Live six times. Comedian Davidson is in his eighth season of Saturday Night Live.

Carson Daly hosted last year’s new year’s event on NBC, with assists from Amber Ruffin and Stephen "tWitch" Boss.

Michaels and Cyrus executive produce this year’s event with Lindsay Shookus. It is produced by Den of Thieves with executive producers Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Barb Bialkowski. It is also produced by Cyrus’s Hopetown Entertainment. Joe DeMaio directs. ■

NBCUniversal Television and Streaming has entered into an overall talent and development agreement with Miley Cyrus. It includes a first look deal between NBCU Television and Streaming, Cyrus’s production company and mother Tish Cyrus’s production company, Hopetown Entertainment. 

The deal encompasses scripted and unscripted content across NBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen, SYFY, Universal Kids, USA and Peacock. It opens up production, performance and hosting opportunities for Cyrus. 

The agreement also includes three specials for Cyrus, the first of which will be a “Stand By You” LGBTQ Pride concert for Peacock. The one-hour special, filmed in Nashville, will feature Cyrus performing. 

“Miley is the true definition of a multi-hyphenate superstar and her Pride special, Stand By You for Peacock is the perfect way to kick off this incredible partnership,” said Susan Rovner, chairman, entertainment content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “The creative possibilities for Miley across our portfolio are literally endless and we can’t wait to collaborate on amazing projects across genres with her, Tish Cyrus’s Hopetown Entertainment and Adam Leber for Rebel.”  

Cyrus, the musical guest on Saturday Night Live May 8, mentioned “an incredible long-lasting relationship with NBC.”

go90, Verizon’s new mobile-first video service, announced it will offer an exclusive stream of Miley Cyrus’s close out performance of The Milky Milky Milk Tour on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 9:55 p.m PT in Los Angeles.

The performance, tied to the singer’s latest album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, is part of the go90 Live streaming concert series, which aims to draw more viewers to the millennials-focused, ad-based OTT offering that launched nationally on October 1 on the iOS and Android mobile platforms.

In addition to the live stream from The Wiltern in L.A., go90 will also offer exclusive behind-the-scenes footage tied to Cyrus’s final performance of the tour.

Go90 will also provide on-demand replays of the performance.

Speaking at an investors conference earlier this month, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo said it was too early to discuss go90 results. While he was happily surprised that the service had amassed a library of about 10,000 titles, he acknowledged that the offering’s search engine had some shortcomings in its early days, but said those problems have since been ironed out.

go90 “is still in its infancy stage,” he said. “We're still working through some early startup issues. But right now we're pretty pleased with what we're seeing.”

MTV’s Aug. 30 Video Music Awards hit a sour note, according to most industry observers, posting a double-digit ratings decline from its 2014 version.

The show, once among cable’s biggest audience draws of the summer, averaged only 5 million viewers in its live run on MTV, down from the 8.2 million viewers the extravaganza generated last year.

That’s a major drop even in an environment where most cable shows and networks are losing audiences.

But the Miley Cyrus-hosted show struck a positive chord with the network’s target millennial audience on social media, where those viewers talk about the content they most want to see.

Performances, speeches and word wars by the likes of Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Justin Bieber – not to mention Kanye West’s 2020 presidential bid proclamation – helped drive a record 21.3 million tweets around the show, according to Nielsen’s Twitter TV ratings.

Clips from the VMAs drew more than 100 million loops on millennial-dominated online video-sharing service Vine and generated 64 million interactions on Instagram, where young people gravitate to discuss and view things that most interest them.

Unfortunately for MTV, the current content advertising distribution model – including accurate multiplatform audience measurements – have not caught up to the continued migration of viewers accessing and watching content on non-traditional platforms; otherwise, we might be viewing the performance of the Video Music Awards in a different light.

Some observers believe the MTV VMAs are no longer relevant given the show's declining ratings. But it just might be that traditional TV is no longer relevant to the VMAs or its audience.

Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards was a big hit in social media, but not so much on traditional TV.

The Miley Cyrus-hosted live event generated 5 million viewers for MTV, down from the 8.2 million viewers the show generated in 2014, according to Nielsen.

The show, which featured performances from Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Justin Beiber and Demi Lovato, was also down in key demos, including 18-49 (3.2 million in 2015 vs. 5.2 million in 2014) and 18-34 (2.2 million vs. 3.7 million), according to Nielsen.

The 10-network simulcast of the live event drew a combined 9.8 million viewers, compared to 10.3 million viewers across four networks in 2014, according to Nielsen.

But those who watched the show were very chatty on social media. The show, which also included Kanye West’s announcement that he will run for president in 2020, drew more than 21.3 million Tweets reached 11.8 million unique Twitter users, the most non-sports program since Nielsen began tracking Twitter TV activity in October 2011.

MTV has tapped Miley Cyrus to host the MTV Video Music Awards, the singer announced via Twitter Monday.

Cyrus, who has stirred up controversy on past VMA shows with her risque musical performances, won last year's Video Of The Year award for her controversial video Wrecking Ball. 

The show, which will air Aug. 30, will feature the best in music video performances for the year. The VMA nominations will be made tomorrow on Apple Music's Beats 1 Chart Show, according to MTV.
