Veteran sportscaster Mike Tirico will host NBC’s coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics games, replacing Bob Costas who will step down after hosting NBC’s Olympics coverage since 1992.

Tirico, who joined the NBC Sports Group in July 2016 after a long career at ESPN, will step into the primetime chair Feb. 8, 2018 when NBC begins its coverage of the Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Both Costas and Tirico appeared on NBC’s Today show Thursday morning to make the announcement. Costas has served as NBC’s primetime host for 11 consecutive Olympics telecasts.

“For a quarter-century, Bob expertly piloted NBC’s primetime coverage of the Olympics,” NBC broadcasting and sports chairman Mark Lazarus said in a statement. “It is with a tremendous amount of pride that I can simultaneously express our appreciation for Bob’s stellar, record-setting run, while also feeling very lucky that we have someone as talented as Mike to take over as our new primetime host.”

ESPN's lined-up replacement for Monday Night Football play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico is Sean McDonough as the sports programmer promotes from within.

McDonough, who has called National Football League games for ESPN radio since 2013, will work alongside analyst Jon Gruden and reporter Lisa Salters beginning in September with the new season of MNF. 

McDonough has been with ESPN since 2000, recently signing a contract extension. His broadcast resume includes Major League Baseball's World Series, the NCAA Final Four and the Olympic Games, and he's also worked college football games. “Sean is a premier play-by-play commentator who combines a signature voice with intelligence, passion and humor, and he always brings out the best in his partners,” John Wildhack, ESPN executive vice president, programming and production, said in a release. “Monday Night Football has a rich history and a bright future ahead with our new booth team of Sean and Jon.”

NBC Sports earlier officially announced the signing of Tirico, whose new assignments will include Olympics and NFL coverage. 

ESPN's First Take co-host Skip Bayless will leave the network when his contract expires at the end of August, the 24-hour sports network confirmed Tuesday.

Bayless, who joined ESPN in 2004 and currently co-hosts ESPN’s daily talk show First Take with Stephen A. Smith, is reported to be moving to Fox Sports, according to published reports. Bayless’ last appearance on First Take will air the day after the NBA Finals conclude someitme in June, according to ESPN.

“We want to thank Skip for his many contributions to ESPN,” the network said in a statement. “His hard work and talent have benefited ESPN for 12 years.”

The announcement follows the reported departure of longtime ESPN on-air voice Mike Tirico, who is expected to join NBC when his contract runs out this August, according to published reports. 

Bayless joins an expanding list of ESPN on-air personalities to leave the organization over the past year, including Bill Simmons, Keith Olbermann and Colin Cowherd.
