The producers and cast of Apple TV Plus comedy series Loot promise more laughs and character development for its second season, which debuts on the streaming service April 3. 

Maya Rudolph returns as rich divorced philanthropist Molly Wells, who in season two continues to head up her own charitable foundation but looks to work on her personal life while helping those who work for her. Also starring in the show are Michaela Jae Rodriguez, Nat Faxon and Joel Kim Booster. 

Loot creator and executive producer Alan Yang said at January’s TCA Winter Press Tour that season two will continue to follow Molly’s exploits, but will also feature more of the other main characters. “Just seeing the chemistry of this ensemble and how they played so well together, it made us really want to just go bigger, faster and funnier in season two,” he said. “We went into their personal lives and into their aspirations as characters, and it just felt more and more magical as we progressed.” 

Rodriguez, who plays the foundation’s no-nonsense executive director Sofia Salinas, also said the second season delves deeper into the personalities of the show’s characters, including her own. “In the second season there is more work done in character development, which was fun for us,” Rodriguez told Multichannel News. (Click on the video below to see more of the interview with Michaela Jae Rodriguez.)

Apple TV Plus has ordered a second season of comedy Loot. Maya Rudolph stars as a billionaire dealing with a couple curveballs life has thrown at her. The show premiered June 24. 

Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard are the creators.

The show sees billionaire Molly, played by Rudolph, start to spiral toward rock bottom after a betrayal. She learns she has a charity foundation, and begins on a journey of self discovery. 

Also in the cast are Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Joel Kim Booster, Nat Faxon, Ron Funches and Stephanie Styles.

New episodes debut on Fridays. Season one has ten. 

Produced for Apple by Universal Television, Loot is created, written and executive produced by Yang and Hubbard. Rudolph executive produces, along with Natasha Lyonne and Danielle Renfrew Behrens, through their Animal Pictures banner. Dave Becky of 3 Arts also executive produces. ■

With some key players on her side, Molly embarks on a journey of self-discovery. 

Rudolph was on Saturday Night Live from 1999 to 2007, and her film work includes Bridesmaids and Wine Country. 

Executive producers are Yang, Hubbard, Rudolph, Natasha Lyonne and Danielle Renfrew Behrens, through their Animal Pictures banner. Dave Becky of 3 Arts also executive produces.

Apple TV Plus Friday offered a first look trailer at its new comedy series Loot starring Maya Rudolph and premiering June 24.

The 10-episode series features Rudolph as billionaire Molly Novak, who struggles with life after discovering her husband of 20 years is cheating. After hitting rock bottom, she learns that she heads a charity foundation, which ultimately leads her to a journey of self-discovery, according to the streaming service.

Along with Rudolph, the series stars Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Ron Funches, Nat Faxon and Joel Kim Booster.

Loot is executive produced by Rudolph, Alan Yang, Matt Hubbard, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Renfrew Behrens and Dave Becky. ■ 

Maya Rudolph hosts Saturday Night Live March 27. Rudolph was a cast member on the show from 2000 to 2007. She portrays VP Kamala Harris on SNL. She hosted once before. 

Jack Harlow is the musical guest. His debut album is “Thats What They All Say.”

April 3, Daniel Kaluuya, star of Judas and the Black Messiah, is the host and St. Vincent the musical guest. Her album “Daddy’s Home” is released May 14. 

On April 10, Carey Mulligan, star of Promising Young Woman, hosts and Kid Cudi is the musical guest. Kid’s latest album is “Man on the Moon III: The Chosen.”

Airing on NBC, Saturday Night Live is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels. 

Hulu has ordered to series The Girl From Plainville and The Next Thing You Eat, the streaming service announced Friday.

Starring Elle Fanning (The Great), The Girl From Plainville is inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter’s controversial “texting-suicide” case. The series will explore Carter’s relationship with Conrad Roy III and the events that lead to his death, and, later, her controversial conviction of involuntary manslaughter, said the service.

The Next Thing You Eat is a six-episode docuseries that explores how current events have affected not only the restaurant world but people's fundamental relationship to food. World-renowned chef David Chang and documentary filmmaker Morgan Neville serve as executive producers for the series.

In other Hulu news, actress Maya Rudolph will serve as narrator for Hulu’s original series Eater’s Guide to the World. The series explores some of the most satisfying culinary destinations around the world including the Pacific Northwest, Casablanca, Tijuana and Costa Rica, according to the service.

In addition, the streaming service will debut its eight episode anthology series Monsterland on Oct. 2, documentary series I AM GRETA on Nov. 13, animated series Animaniacs on Nov. 20, and drama series No Man’s Land on Nov. 18.

Amazon Studios has signed a first look television deal with actresses/producers Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne.

As part of the deal, the Emmy award nominated actresses will create original series for Amazon Studios under the Animal Pictures banner, according to Amazon officials. 

“Maya and Natasha are proven talents in front of and behind the camera, and we are so excited to tap into this powerful creative brain trust and be in business with these fiercely funny and phenomenally smart women,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios in a statement.
