BET Plus will team with hip-hop artist/actor Chris "Ludacris" Bridges to develop a new, half-hour scripted dramedy.

The untitled series, inspired by Ludacris’ experience coming up in the competitive music scene in Atlanta, follows the misadventures of an ensemble who are willing to do anything and everything to bolster ratings at their hip-hop station, the streaming service said.

Ludacris will serve as executive producer of the series along with Larry Wilmore, Malcolm Lee, Noah Gardenswartz, Dominique Telson, Chaka Zulu, Jeff Dixon, Josh Cratman and David Blackman. 

The dramedy will add to BET Plus’ lineup of original scripted series, which includes The 2023 Emmy Award-nominated comedy The Ms. Pat Show, Kingdom Business, All The Queens Men, and The Family Business. 

Jif is aiming to get the hip-hop generation rapping about peanut butter with a new multichannel campaign featuring O.G. performer Ludacris and new school artist Gunna.

The Lil Jif Project is built around a video. Ludacris is having trouble finding his flow but discovers a new hot new sound after rapping with a mouthful of Jif. In the ad, the new mumbled song becomes a sensation and Jif’s parent, the J.M. Smucker Co., hopes life imitates art and has peanut butter on the roofs of mouths of music fans as Ludacris is releasing new music, Butter.ATL.

“We are honored that both Ludacris and Gunna chose to collaborate with us to prove our theory correct,” said Rebecca Scheidler, VP of marketing, Jif. “We think Butter.ATL is proof positive that everything is better with Jif peanut butter.”

The music video will be available on YouTube and commercials start airing Monday on TV morning shows including ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today and in primetime as Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns to NBC. Jif has also bought time on Disney’s Hulu and on Amazon.

The campaign uses the slogan “That Jif’ing Good.”

Jif is also using social media and influencer marketing to spread its message. The brand has created a TikTok challenge that asks them to perform a duet to Butter.ATL -- but they must perform with a mouthful of Jif peanut butter.

To add a bit of bling to the campaign, Ludacris worked with jeweler Icebox to create two limited edition 37 carat diamond and ruby Jif jar pendants. One is for Ludacris, the other for a “special use” to be announced, the company said.

Jif peanut butter is also making a contribution to the Boys & Girls Club, Ludacris’ charity of choice.

“Those who know me know I am a die-hard peanut butter lover – I even have it on my rider! The opportunity to bring together two things I love – Jif peanut butter and hip hop music – was a creative challenge I just couldn’t pass up,” said Ludacris. “I’ve been anticipating getting back into the studio for a while now and I saw this as a cool way to merge the best of my roots, inspired by the amazing sounds from artists like Gunna, to see what new-to-the-world magic I could create.”

 Discovery Plus has commissioned additional episodes for its original show Luda Can’t Cook starring Chris “Ludacris’ Bridges.

The streaming service has picked up three additional episodes of the show after the success of a February one-hour special featuring the acclaimed rapper and actor. The Will Packer-produced show stars Bridges as he explores a variety of flavors and cooking techniques from across the globe, said the service.

“Our audience loved watching Ludacris accept an unexpected challenge,” said Food Network and Cooking Channel president Courtney White. ”He is unrivaled in the studio and on the big screen, but not so much in the kitchen – and we are excited to bring him back to advance his cooking skills further and explore even more types of food.”

Added Bridges: “I had an amazing experience the first time around and went from being clueless in the kitchen to making some delicious dishes. I’m excited to team up again with Discovery Plus and Will to master all different kinds of cuisine so I can impress my wife, mom and kids with my new skills.”

Celebrities doing positive things within communities around the country will be the focus of a new Aspire reality series, Changemakers, the network announced Wednesday.

The series debus Sept. 24 and will spotlight African-American celebrities – such as Keshia Knight Pulliam and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges (pictured) – who are making a difference and reveal how and why they use their success to help others.  The six-episode series is executive produced by Swirl Films, according to network officials.

“Changemakers is a groundbreaking reality series that focuses on celebrities who are changing the game in their communities by doing extraordinary things,” said Aspire general manager Paul Butler in a statement. “We are committed to telling stories that otherwise go untold, and Changemakers features the exceptional work of many celebrities who are giving back to the community.  We are pleased to shine a spotlight on some of these generous acts."

Revolt TV will air several short vignettes featuring artists reflecting on the life of R&B singer James Brown on the eve of the premiere of Brown’s theatrical biopic Get On Up, the network said Thursday.

The network, in partnership with Universal Studios, is currently running a series of on-air promo spots featuring such artists as Ludacris, Bobby Brown and Common discussing the life and influence that Brown had on the music industry, said network officials.

Get On Up, premieres Aug. 1 and stars Chadwick Boseman, Nelsan Ellis and Viola Davis.
