OWN series Love & Marriage will take place in Detroit next season, after previous seasons were based in Huntsville and Washington, DC. The season will introduce a new group of Black community members and leaders facing marital challenges. 

Love & Marriage: Detroit is set to premiere June 24. 

The series will center on a group of Black families with deep ties to Detroit who have decided to stay in the city and prove they can provide the best lives possible for their families in what OWN calls a “community on a comeback.”

Russell and Kolby Harris, Brandon and Kristina Bowman Smith, and Anthony and Dr. LaToya Thompson will star. The Harrises have a two-year-old daughter. Russell decides to attend divinity school without asking Kolby about it. The daughter of a pastor, Kolby is a social media influencer. 

The Smiths have two young daughters. She’s a fashion designer and he owns artist development program Star Factory. 

The Thompsons have two sons. Anthony works for Live Nation and owns a production studio. LaToya is a physical therapist and owns Opulence Wines,

“Detroit is on the rise and so are the people. It’s a city where Black culture is strong. This reemerging city is all about family, friendship, business, excellence and of course, love and marriage,” said OWN. 

Love & Marriage: Detroit was created by Carlos King,and is produced by Kingdom Reign Entertainment. King executive produces with Angela Dugan, Brent Nisbett and Tarin Laughlin. 

OWN will tap reality TV series producer Carlos King to host a new weekly talk show series debuting May 14.

The series, The Nightcap with Carlos King, will premiere after the debut of the Love & Marriage: D.C. spinoff series and will feature the Love & Marriage executive producer as he talks to guests from OWN’s most popular shows, said the network. 

The series, which King also executive produces, will also feature celebrity guests who will dish on pop culture headlines and participate in fun games and revealing challenges. 

The Love & Marriage: D.C. series will feature The Real Housewives of Potomac alumni Monique and Cris Samuels and their friends, said the network. The show is executive produced by King, Angela Dugan, Scott Shatsky, Brent Nisbett and Tarin Laughlin. 

OWN has solidified its weekend unscripted programming block through the end of the year with the renewal of five series and the ordering of new series, Young & Gospel, the network said Thursday.

Series returning in 2021 include the third season of Ready to Love on April 2, followed by the summer premiere of sophomore series Put a Ring on It as well as Love & Marriage: Huntsville, which will return for a third season, said the network.

Also debuting this year are Black Love for its fifth season and Family or Fiancé for its second campaign, said OWN.

Along with the renewals, the network has greenlit a new series, Young & Gospel, which will follow the lives of four young gospel artists as they pursue their dreams and live life on their own terms while staying true to their faith and their families, said network officials.

“When we expanded our original unscripted programming block to Friday and Saturday nights last fall, viewers showed up in a big way,’” OWN president Tina Perry said. “In response to that success, we are giving our audience more of the shows they love along with the new series Young & Gospel, which will be a perfect addition to our growing roster.”

OWN has renewed four shows from its original unscripted lineup including freshman series Love & Marriage: Huntsville and veteran series Black Love, the network announced Thursday.

Other freshman unscripted series returning for a second season include Black Women OWN the Conversation and Ready to Love, according to the network.

Black Love, which highlight honest, emotional and sometimes awkward love stories from the Black community featuring mostly married celebrity and real-life couples, will return for a fourth season, said OWN.

“We are thrilled to continue building our unscripted slate with the return of these fan favorite series,” said OWN president Tina Perry in a statement. “These shows collectively tell real stories that deeply resonate with our audience, and we are proud to create authentic content that’s relatable to our viewers. We look forward to keep exploring love in African American relationships.”
