HBO Max has given a full-season order to half-hour dramedy Generation. Zelda Barnz, who is 18, and her father Daniel Barnz created the show. Lena Dunham and Ben Barnz executive produce Generation, about a group of high school students whose exploration of sexuality (devices and all) tests deeply entrenched beliefs about life, love and the nature of family in their conservative community.

“Daniel and Zelda are an incredibly passionate team with true vision and authenticity, providing an inside look at the windy path many adolescents have to navigate as they come to terms with their identity and sexuality in Generation,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max.

Generation is written by Zelda and Daniel Barnz and the pilot was directed by Daniel Barnz. Dunham will executive produce for Good Thing Going Productions, with Daniel and Ben Barnz exec producing for We’re Not Brothers Productions.

“I wanted to see myself and kids my own age represented on TV in a way that felt real, without judgement or nostalgia. I’m so appreciative of my mentor and soul-sister Lena Dunham for all her support and guidance, and so thankful to HBO Max for making this crazy dream come true,” said Zelda.

The cast includes Nathanya Alexander, Chloe East, Nava Mau, Lukita Maxwell, Haley Sanchez and Uly Schlesinger.

“Zelda has a particular ability to speak to and about her generation with humor and relatability, only brought further to life by this incredible cast. We couldn’t be prouder of a show to mark our first pilot to series order for HBO Max,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer HBO Max and president TBS, TNT, and TruTV.

Dunham, who created Girls, called the project “effortlessly funny.”

HBO Wednesday (Jan. 6) made it official that it has greenlit a sixth and final season of comedy series Girls.

The series, created and produced by Lena Dunham, will launch its fifth season on Feb. 21, according to network officials.

Earlier in the week reports surfaced that the series, about the lives of a group of women in their 20’s, would end its run after a sixth season. Girls is executively produced by Dunham, Judd Apatow, Jenni Konner, Ilene S. Landress, Murray Miller and Bruce Eric Kaplan.

 “Lena Dunham and her brilliant collaborators, including Judd Apatow and Jenni Konner, have given HBO a signature series of rare wit and intelligence,” Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. “They are exceptional talents, and I can’t wait to see what Lena, Jenni and Judd have in store for the final seasons of this unique show, and look forward to working with them on future projects.”

Added Dunham: “I can’t imagine a more fulfilling creative experience than Girls. The freedom and support that HBO has given Jenni, Judd and me is something rare and beautiful. The commitment and originality of our actors has been stunning, and our crew is truly my family. I conceived of Girls when I was 23 and now I’m nearly 30 – the show has quite perfectly spanned my 20s, the period of time that it’s about – and so it feels like the right time to wrap our story up. We look forward to creating a sixth season that will honor our amazing cast, crew and fans. And in the Girls universe, nothing ever ends too neatly.”

HBO's Emmy-winning comedy series Girls has been renewed for a fifth sesason nearly a week before its fourth season premiere.

The Lena Dunham-produced series will debut its fourth season this Sunday (Jan. 11.)

The series, which follows a close knit group of four New York City-based friends, just last month was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, including best comedy as well as a best acrtress in a comedy nod for Dunham.

The Golden Globe Awards ceremony will air this Sunday on NBC.

As the Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning, celebrities are taking to Twitter and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to voice their honors for the upcoming Jan. 11 show.
