The CW’s redo of Legends of the Hidden Temple debuts Oct. 10. The competition series, inspired by the Nintendo game “The Legend of Zelda” and the Indiana Jones movie franchise, aired on Nickelodeon from 1993 to 1995.

Calling it a “supersized, adult version” of the adventure show, The CW version retains a number of aspects from the original, including Olmec, a giant talking Mayan head, the Moat Crossings, the Steps of Knowledge and the Temple Run.

“The entire show is taken out of the studio into a ‘jungle’ and scaled up with tougher challenges and much bigger prizes on the line,” said The CW when the show was announced earlier this year. “Every episode is a hero’s journey through a mysterious jungle.”

Five teams begin the journey, but only one enters Olmec’s Temple, aims to avoid the Temple Guards, retrieves a lost treasure, and returns it to its rightful owner. Team names are Purple Parrots, Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, Red Jaguars, Silver Snakes and Green Monkeys.

David G. Stanley, Scott A. Stone and Stephen R. Brown created the original show. 

The remake is produced by Stone & Company Entertainment and Nickelodeon. It is executive produced by Scott A. Stone and Marcus Fox.

After Legends of the Hidden Temple on The CW is Killer Camp, a remake of a U.K. satirical competition series. 

The CW programs Saturdays for the first time starting Oct. 9. Two episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway? lead into season two of World’s Funniest Animals, also airing two episodes. 

“Expanding to Saturdays was the goal for us for the past decade,” said Mark Pedowitz, chairman and CEO of The CW, earlier this year. “We’re excited about the possibilities this opens up for our affiliates and our advertisers.”

The CW said that writer, producer and comedian Cristela Alonzo will be the host of its new version of the game show Legends of the Hidden Temple, which is set to debut Oct 10.

The original Legends of the Hidden Temple ran from 1993 to 1995 on Nickelodeon. 

The CW is taking the show out of the studio and moving it to a jungle, while making the challenges tougher and the prize bigger. Olmec, the giant talking Mayan head, will remain a cornerstone of the show.

“When we decided to revisit Legends of the Hidden Temple, we wanted a host with stature who also had the humor of a stand-up and the energy of a camp counselor,” said Scott A. Stone, creator and executive producer. “That’s Cristela Alonzo, she’s perfect!” 

Alonzo was the first Latina to create, produce and star in a network sitcom with Cristela on ABC in 2014. She was also a guest host on The View. She was also a voice actor in Cars 3.

"Having grown up on 90’s pop culture and actually being a fan of the original Legends of the Hidden Temple, I am thrilled to be hosting the new updated version of the show,” said Alonzo. “The biggest challenge for me on this show will be trying to simultaneously host it and contain my geeked-out excitement at the same time.”

The CW has shared its seven-night schedule for the 2021-2022 season. New fall shows are 4400, The Legends of the Hidden Temple remake and Killer Camp. 

Sundays will have Legends of the Hidden Temple, an adult-focused remake of the Nickelodeon competition classic, and a U.S. edition of Killer Camp, a competition series that sees 13 campers navigate through deadly twists with their eye on a cash prize.

Mondays have season four of All American and 4400, about 4,400 people who fell off the face of the planet. 

On Tuesdays it’s season eight of The Flash and season six of Riverdale. 

Wednesdays have Legends of Tomorrow season seven and Batwoman season three. 

Thursdays offer the sophomore season of Walker and season four of Legacies. 

On Fridays it’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us and season three of Nancy Drew. 

Saturdays have two episodes apiece of Whose Line Is It Anyway? and World’s Funniest Animals.

The CW is adding Saturdays to its lineup, three years after it added Sundays. The Saturday schedule starts with iHeartRadio Music Festival Oct. 2.

Joining All American spinoff All American: Homecoming and Ava DuVernay drama Naomi in the mid season are Charmed, DC’s Stargirl, Dynasty, In the Dark, Kung Fu, Roswell, New Mexico and Superman & Lois.

Every episode of 4400; All American: Homecoming; Batwoman; DC’s Stargirl; Kung Fu; Naomi; Nancy Drew; Superman & Lois and Walker, as well as Killer Camp; Legends of the Hidden Temple; Penn & Teller: Fool Us; Whose Line Is It Anyway? and World’s Funniest Animals on this season will be available to stream on The CW’s free digital platforms. 

The CW has three original specials lined up for the fourth quarter of 2021: movie The Waltons’ Homecoming, set in 1933 and told from John Boy’s perspective; The Scooby-Doo Reunion Special, which sees the Scooby gang reunite at Warner Bros. Studios to reminisce about their favorite cases; and animated holiday special Beebo Saves Christmas, about a fuzzy toy turned furry god. Ben Diskin voices Beebo. 

Pedowitz said The Waltons' Homecoming offers "a touch of Americana and a touch of Middle America."

Programming Saturdays gives viewers and advertisers another night to connect with The CW, Pedowitz said, and another night for the network to promote its content. 

“The CW continues to grow and innovate on a multiplatform basis with more original programming and more ways for advertisers to connect with our audience,” summed up Pedowitz.

The 47th year of Comic-Con, the country’s longest-run comics and popular arts convention comes back with talents both old and new. TBS and Conan return, with new partnerships AT&T and Snickers, with much to offer. Conan and AT&T are bringing in-broadcast virtual reality with 360-degree camera angles. Fans that couldn’t make it to the convention will have virtual reality access to the shows at San Diego’s Spreckels Theatre which includes on-stage interviews, audience interaction and more.

At TBS’s Comic-Con International booth, attendees will receive a VR headset shaped like a Conan Pop! Vinyl figure to get a 360-degree peek into Conan O’Brien’s world.

O’Brien will have the casts of Suicide Squad, Supergirl,Game of Thrones, and more on his late-night show right next to the San Diego Convention Center.

Snickers is playing up on their “You’re not you when you’re hungry” campaign with fans dressing up as fictional superheroes created for the event.

Syfy is debuting their first-ever live broadcast, Syfy Presents Live From Comic-Con, hosted by Will Arnett. Those unable to attend Comic-Con in person can tune-in so they don’t miss a thing. Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Elijah Wood (Dirk Gently), the cast of Mr. Robot, Jamie Alexander (Blindspot), Tony Hale (Veep), Will Forte (Last Man On Earth), and Zachary Levi (Heroes Reborn) are to appear in the broadcast. Each night, Arnett and his team will discuss the convention’s breaking news, insider party coverage, and exclusive content of upcoming films and TV series, like Star Trek Beyond.

Cast and creators of Syfy’s The Magicians and The Expanse and USA’s Mr. Robot and Colony will appear at panels over the weekend at SDCC. New fall shows Incorporated (Syfy) and Falling Water (USA) will feature exclusive pilot screenings. Mr. Robot made its Comic-Con debut this year, with discussion of the series’ second season, moderated by Chris Hardwick.

On Friday, July 22, WGN’s Salem will have a panel event, unveiling an extended sneak peak followed by an audience Q&A. WGN America released the season three full-length trailer for the supernatural thriller, set to premiere Halloween week this year.

Outside of the Convention Center, there is more to do, with FX and Fox’s three-story Mount Zephyria Mighty Rock Climb & Free Fall. Adult Swim’s carnival is set up right next to it.

Fear the Walking Dead will have a panel with the cast and executive producers Friday July 22. A Fear the Walking Dead yacht will be open to attendees wanting to experience life aboard the Abigail for the duration of Comic-Con, located at Fifth Avenue Pier behind the Convention Center.

AMC’s new late-night talk show, Geeking Out premieres Sunday, July 24, specially covering all things Comic-Con. Comic Book Men’s Kevin Smith and Heroes’ Greg Grunberg host. Smith and Grunberg give viewers an all-access VIP pass through the convention. A preview of Star Trek Beyond and a look into the cosplayers who show up at Comic-Con are in the episode, among interviews and first-looks.

Comedy Central brings the raunchiness they’re known for at SDCC with Drunk History, South Park 20 Experience, and The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail. There are panels featuring Drunk History, new animated series Legends of Chamberlain Heights and South Park 20. South Park celebrates its 20th season with screenings of episodes, artwork, and more. In addition, music artist, That Poppy, will broadcast the events on Comedy Central’s Snapchat.

The BBC America booth returns back to Comic-Con, with merchandise from Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Orphan Black, featuring item exclusive only to the convention.

Nickelodeon and The Splat brings the ultimate 90’s throwback experience for SDCC this year, with games, panels, signings and more. Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Arnold!, Double Dare, Aaah!!! Real Monsters, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Invader Zim are some of the featured shows that are at the convention. Nickelodeon’s booth will feature a VR 360-experience into the upcoming Legends of the Hidden Temple live-action TV movie, allowing fans to experience the Mayan temple first-hand. Signings by the cast of All That, Legends of the Hidden Temple, SpongeBob SquarePants, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are few of many opportunities at the convention.

Disney XD’s new series, DuckTales, debuted a collectible comic, DuckTales Cinestory Volume 1which will be available until September 27 of this year. Exclusive teaser art from the series appears on the back of the comic, which retells the first five episodes of the original DuckTales TV show.

FX brings exclusive video content and Q&A’s for the cast and creators of The Strain and Archer.

Cartoon Network’s Screening and Costume Ball returns to SDCC, offering an inside look at hit shows and sneak peaks. We Bare Bears and The Powerpuff Girls make their panel debuts.

In advance of its March 2 upfront presentation in New York, Nickelodeon has greenlit a live-action TV movie inspired by its 90s game show Legends of the Hidden Temple.

The movie, starring Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School), will begin production in March and will follow three siblings who embark on a high-stakes, life-or-death mission, according to the network.

The kids-targeted network also said it has greenlit a two-part, animated movie based on the 90s Nickelodeon series Hey Arnold! The movie, set to debut in 2017, will be written and executive produced by the series’ original creator, Craig Bartlett.

“The greenlights for the Legends of the Hidden Temple and Hey Arnold! TV movies are terrific examples of how we are bringing our beloved content back to life both for new audiences and the generation that grew up on them,” said Cyma Zarghami, president, Viacom Kids and Family Group. “These TV movies will keep the spirit and essential themes of the original source materials intact, while branching out in new ways that will speak to and captivate today’s kids.”
