Film Atlas, with Jennifer Lopez as a data analyst on a mission to capture a renegade robot, premieres on Netflix May 24. Brad Peyton directs. 

Lopez is Atlas Shepherd, “a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence,” according to Netflix, who joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. Her plans go awry, and her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.

Lopez is a producer as well, as are Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schecter. Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite wrote the screenplay. 

Simu Liu and Sterling K. Brown are also in the cast. 

Lopez told Netflix’s Tudum: “I loved that this is a big sci-fi action movie, but at its core, it’s a story of friendship — and a love story, in a way. I always see everything as a love story, but this is a different kind of love between two beings who connect in disastrous circumstances, and teach each other how to be more human.”

Reviews are not so hot. One in The Guardian said, “Jennifer Lopez learns to love AI in silly Netflix mockbuster.”

USA Today wrote, “Jenny from the Block is in her Iron Man era with Atlas, a sci-fi action thriller directed by Brad Peyton that pairs two hot commodities: a pop-culture superstar and artificial intelligence.”

The Jennifer Lopez film This Is Me…Now: A Love Story is on Prime Video February 16. Her album, bearing the same title, is out the same day.  

Dave Meyers directs the film, which Prime Video calls “a narrative-driven cinematic odyssey, steeped in mythological storytelling and personal healing.”

Stars who turn up in the film include Trevor Noah, Post Malone, Sofia Vergara, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Ben Affleck, along with, of course, Lopez. 

The new album is Lopez’s ninth, and her first in a decade. 

This Is Me…Now: A Love Story looks at Lopez’s “journey to love through her own eyes,” said Prime Video. “With fantastical costumes, breathtaking choreography, and star-studded cameos, this panorama is an introspective retrospective of Jennifer’s resilient heart.

Lopez’s film credits include Out of Sight and The Wedding Planner, and her TV work includes American Idol, World of Dance and Shades of Blue. 

Ayo Edebiri, who plays Sydney on the FX series The Bear, will host Saturday Night Live for the first time February 3. Edebiri won best actress in a comedy at the Golden Globes and best supporting actress in a comedy at the Emmy Awards this month. At the Emmys, she described The Bear as “a show about family and found family and real family.” 

Jennifer Lopez will make her fourth appearance as SNL musical guest February 3. Her album This Is Me … Now and her film This Is Me … Now: A Love Story, will be released February 16. The latter will be on Prime Video. 

As has previously been reported, Dakota Johnson hosts SNL January 27 and Justin Timberlake is the musical guest. 

SNL airs on NBC and streams live on Peacock. Peacock has all 49 seasons of the show. 

Saturday Night Live is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.    

Netflix will offer up an action-themed, original movie feature starring actress/singer Jennifer Lopez over this Mother's Day weekend. 

The Mother debuts May 12 and stars Lopez as a deadly female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter she gave up years before while on the run from dangerous men, according to Netflix.

Along with Lopez, the film stars Joseph Fiennes, Omari Harwick, Gael Garcia Bernal, Paul Raci and Lucy Paez.

The Mother is produced by Lopez along with Benny Medina, Elain Goldsmith-Thomas, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, Marc Evans, Misha Green and Courtney Baker.

Halftime, a documentary about Jennifer Lopez and her 2020 Super Bowl performance, premieres on Netflix June 14. The film also depicts Lopez playing at the inauguration of President Joe Biden. 

Lopez and Shakira did the Super Bowl LIV halftime show in 2020. During Lopez’s performance, children in cages were part of the show, a statement on then-President Donald Trump’s immigration policy. The NFL had pushed back on the cage motif, but Lopez prevailed. 

A New York Times review of the film reads, “In Halftime, she is seen in top J. Lo form, an empowering Hollywood icon with an inspirational story to share. Is that reason enough to watch this scattershot portrait? It depends on if she had your love to begin with.”

Amanda Micheli directs the documentary, which runs an hour and 36 minutes. 

A singer, actress and producer, Lopez’s movies include Monster-in Law, The Wedding Planner and Marry Me. Her TV work includes World of Dance and Shades of Blue. ■

A behind the scenes look at Super Bowl LIV's halftime show and the final run of TNT's drama series Animal Kingdom highlight a busy Father's Day week of premieres across cable networks and streaming services.

Netflix's June 14 debut of Halftime follows music superstar Jennifer Lopez as she prepares for her 2020 Super Bowl halftime performance with fellow artist Shakira.

TNT's Animal Kingdom debuts its sixth and final season on June 19. The 13-episode season, which follows the exploits of a criminal family enterprise, stars Sawn Hatosy, Jake weary, Ben Robson and Finn Cole. Also launching its final season is Hulu's dramedy series Love, Victor. The show's third season, which stars Michael Cimino, debuts June 15 on both Hulu and Disney Plus.

Jennifer Lopez will be the headline performer on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021. Lopez will be joined by Billy Porter, Cyndi Lauper and Jimmie Allen and will take the stage just before the ball drops in Times Square Dec. 31. 

The program, marking its 49th anniversary, starts at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Seacrest is hosting for the 16th year. Lucy Hale and Billy Porter help out from Times Square and Ciara handles Los Angeles. 

An actress, producer, singer and dancer, Lopez’s movie work includes Hustlers and Selena. Her TV resume includes Shade of Blue and World of Dance.  

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021 is produced by dick clark productions with Ryan Seacrest, Amy Thurlow, Barry Adelman, Mark Bracco and Linda Gierahn the executive producers. 

Good Trouble is the official name of the spinoff to Freeform drama The Fosters, the network said.

The spinoff series, announced in January, follows Callie (played by Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) as they embark on the next chapter of their lives in Los Angeles.

Production starts this summer. Jon M. Chu will direct and executive produce the first episode.

Good Trouble is produced by Jennifer Lopez's Nuyorican Productions Inc. in association with Freeform.

Joanna Johnson, Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg are the Good Trouble creators and showrunners. Gregory Gugliotta, Christine Sacani, Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, Jennifer Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina are executive producers.

As Callie and Mariana venture to Los Angeles to start their adult lives and embark on their separate but intertwined journeys to change the world, they’re going to have all the Good Trouble they can handle.”

The Fosters series finale event airs June 4-6 on Freeform. The show is about a multi-ethnic family of adopted and biological kids raised by two mothers. Stef Adams Foster (Teri Polo), a police officer, and her wife, Lena Adams Foster (Sherri Saum), a school vice principal, have built a family with Stef’s biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon (David Lambert); their adopted twins, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Noah Centineo); and adopted siblings Jude (Hayden Byerly) and his half-sister, Callie (Maia Mitchell).

Fuse and NuvoTv will fuse together to create a new network that will focus on millennial viewers with several new shows that will broaden Fuse’s lineup beyond its traditional music-based content, network officials said during an upfront call Wednesday morning (March 4).

Nuvo TV, which launched in 2011 as a rebrand of the Si TV English-language entertainment network targeting Hispanic viewers, will be folded into Fuse during the third quarter. Fuse, which was acquired last summer by Nuvo TV from Madison Square Garden Co., will evolve into a pop culture network targeted to a diverse 18-34 year old audience, which Bill Hilary, president of the recently rechristened Fuse Media, termed “The New Young Americans.”

“The name Nuvo is going away, but the nature and content of Nuvo is not going away,” Hillary said on the conference call, adding "it’s like a marriage” of the two networks.

Hilary said the new Fuse channel will continue to work with Nuvo TV chief creative officer Jennifer Lopez, who will develop an unscripted show for the new Fuse service.

Hilary also said Fuse Media later this year will launch a new network and digital media brand tentatively titled FM that will be music-centric.

“We will be delivering an innovative programming lineup with music at its core but relying heavily on digital as well,” Hilary said.

On the new original programming front, the network Fuse will launch White Guy Talk Show, a daily pop culture talk show featuring a diverse cast and hosted by comedians Grace Parra and Saurin Choksi. The show will be executive produced by Brian McCann (Conan).

The network has greenlit a weekly, music-themed series, Skee TV, starring  producer/digital media entrepreneur DJ Skee, debuting April 9, and is working with comedian Gabriel Iglesias to develop a scripted, animated comedy.
