If this demo, billed as a “proof-of-concept,” has some legs, it could help operators vastly expand the reach of the RDK, a preintegrated software stack that is starting to find a home in IP-only and hybrid QAM/IP set-tops and gateways.

Itaas declined to identify which models will be featured in the demo, but the company noted that it will show the full stack running on AM-based boxes that are outfitted with Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA), a high-speed home networking technology pay-TV providers are using to deliver live and DVR-recorded video securely over the home’s coax network.

According to the company, itaas has enabled MoCA functionality to use the device as an IP client device.

At the show, itaas will also demonstrate home security and automation apps running on an RDK-based gateway.

Last fall, itaas, which is in the process of being acquired by Cognizant, was tapped by RDK Management LLC, now a joint venture backed by Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Liberty Global, to oversee RDK Community Support Services, a component of the J.V. tasked with technical support and training for RDK licensees.

Its customers include service providers, programmers, application developers and cable technology vendors and suppliers, including Arris, Cisco Systems, Comcast, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, and Time Warner Cable.

Cognizant, which ended 2013 with 171,400 employees, said the deal will help it expands its reach into the video market. Last year, 42% of its $8.84 billion in revenue came from the financial service industry, with 11.2% derived from the communications, information, media and entertainment and technology sector.

“This acquisition continues our long-standing strategy of acquiring sharply focused business capabilities that complement our existing offerings. The company’s strong client focus and deep business and technology insights into the entire video ecosystem, combined with Cognizant’s global consulting and delivery capabilities, will create greater value for our mutual clients,” said Cognizant CEO Rajeev Mehta, in a release.

The deal also aims to help itaas achieve more scale and pursue new growth opportunities.

“Cognizant’s global reach, experience, and entrepreneurial culture will allow us to offer our current and future customers greater scale, a broader range of services, comprehensive solutions, and world-leading consulting and delivery expertise. International expansion is critical for us to continue our strong growth and provide greater opportunities for our employees,” said itaas president and CEO Vibha Rustagi.
