HGTV will again team with hip-hop artist Lil Jon for a second season of its home renovation series Lil Jon Wants to Do What?, which will debut July 10.

The series, which initially launched in May 2022, follows the rapper along with home designer Anitra Mecadon as they look to take homeowners out of their design comfort zones, according to HGTV. The series drew more than 12.7 million cumulative viewers during its freshman run, according to the network. 

During the eight-episode second season, the duo will take on more projects, including turning a dated colonial-style home into a futuristic dance club, and transforming an unused space into a movie room set to mimic a private jet fuselage, according to the network.

‘We went bigger, bolder and way outside of  the box for these families,” Lil Jon said in a statement. “It’s been an incredible experience and I’m excited that soon we get to share it with everyone.”

HGTV’s docuseries Christina on The Coast launched its second season on Jan. 2 with series host Christina Anstead continuing to showcase her professional and personal life. The series attracted more than 12 million total viewers last summer during its first season, according to HGTV. 

The Flip or Flop co-star recently talked about her series -- which delves into her marriage and family plans with husband Ant Anstead (host of MotorTrend series Wheeler Dealers) as well as her house-flipping and real estate career. Anstead also opines about the continued viewer appeal of the home improvement genre in the interview, an edited version of which appears below.

How will season two of Christina on The Coast differ from the show's inaugural season?

Season two highlights my pregnancy, and follows the journey of telling the kids, designing our nursery, and ends with the birth of baby Hudson. The season opener focuses on a firefighter and his family's [home] … it was a huge transformation and they were such a sweet couple. I also got to do my producers’ home as well as my BFF Cassie [Zebisch]’s master bedroom and bathroom.

Does Christina on The Coast present a different, more personal experience for you both on screen and behind the camera than Flip or Flop?

Yes, it’s much more personal working directly with home owners designing their dream space as opposed to working on projects with quick turnarounds that need to appeal to the masses.

Why does the home improvement genre continue to have strong appeal to viewers?

I think watching any type of transformation is exciting. Plus, people love to get ideas on how to fix up their homes.

Are you concerned that the genre may become over saturated given the number of shows in the marketplace?

No - the more the merrier... people have their preferences and there is something for everyone on HGTV.

Where do you see yourself and your career over the next five years?

Making more shows for HGTV. I love doing both Christina on the coast and Flip or Flop .. I’m lucky because I love my job.

HGTV on Aug. 1 will debut a new home renovation series that will focus on the worst homes in Houston’s best neighborhoods.

The series, Going for Sold, stars stars real estate agent Jon Pierre Tjon-Joe-Pin and his wife Mary, who turn forgotten homes into charming and affordable properties that appeal to young families, according to the network.

The network added that throughout the season, Jon and Mary overcome serious renovation challenges such as faulty plumbing and roof leaks, rework choppy floor plans and even incorporate a New Orleans-inspired design that reflects Mary’s Louisiana upbringing. 

Saturday night’s return of TLC’s Trading Spaces after a 10-year hiatus drew 2.8 million viewers in live+3 Nielsen ratings, the network announced Thursday.

The home renovation series, hosted by Paige Davis, also posted the most viewers on any show on cable during the evening, according to the network.

The lead in to the series’ premiere, Trading Spaces Reunion Special, drew 2.5 million total viewers. The combined airings led to the network’s highest-rated Saturday night in eight years, said network officials.
