HGTV, which just wrapped its best second quarter in network history, continues to expand its programming roster. More family-centric series about home renovation and house flipping have been cleared for production, including Five Day Flip, Vintage Flip and Nashville Flipped. DIY Network, another Scripps Networks Interactive outlet, coming off its most-watched second quarter (up 6% year over year), has ordered American Rehab: Utah and Amish Dream Homes (working title).

HGTV explores the latest trends in house flipping in three of the new series. Five Day Flip follows renovator Cherie Barber as she guts and remodels fixer uppers and puts them back on the market in only five days. In Vintage Flip, real estate expert and contractor Jessie Rodriguez and his wife Tina purchase dated homes and restore them with custom design features and architectural elements. Nashville Flipped features Troy Dean Shafer, the owner of a house-flipping business. During the series, Troy, his designer Alex and a team of contractors renovate historic homes in the heart of Nashville.

DIY's two new series follow families who renovate homes together. Amish Dream Homes features the Miller family, who work to balance their traditional cultural values and operate a construction business. In American Rehab: Utah, Andy and Candis Meredith (pictured) run a family business in which they purchase historic properties across the state and restore them to their original beauty for generations to come.

HGTV has renewed Island Life and Island Hunters, two programs in the network's growing stable of fantasy-destination programming. (Other such shows include Beachfront Bargain Hunt, Lakefront Bargain Hunt, Caribbean Life,Vacation House for Free and Hawaii Life.)

DIY, a sister channel in the Scripps Networks Interactive stable, ordered more episodes of real-estate competition show Texas Flip and Move, adventure series Building Alaska and Garage Gold, starring junk-picker Kraig Bantle (pictured in blue t-shirt).

“We’ve achieved 11 consecutive months of ratings growth at HGTV, and DIY Network’s prime impressions are up 8% this quarter,” Allison Page, general manager, HGTV and DIY Network, said in a release. “Island Life, Island Hunters, Building Alaska, Garage Gold and Texas Flip and Move are among the consistent performers on our networks, so we want to keep our programming pipeline filled with new episodes.”

Island Life follows homeowners who are ready to shed the hustle and bustle for the perfect island home. Island Hunters features families in search of their own private island, HGTV said.

DIY's Texas Flip and Move follows three teams of real-estate risk-takers buy dilapidated houses at auction and move the structures off the property that day, which can be dangerous. In Garage Gold, Kraig Bantle and his team as they clean out junk-filled spaces for free, keeping whatever valuable items he finds and wants. Building Alaska showcases the construction of off-the-grid homes, DIY said.

HGTV said it has greenlighted four new shows in the theme of buying "the worst home on the best block" and then restoring and potentially re-selling it, a theme that has been successful at the Scripps Networks outlet (see " 'Flip Or Flop' Notches Series High"). They are likely to make their debut this summer, the network said, with scheduling yet to be determined.

Old Home Love (w.t.) showcases Utah couple Andy and Candis Meredith as they renovate dilapidated houses from the 1800s and restore them to their original beauty.

Shalina Joy, a New Jersey teacher and single mom of two, takes on her biggest summer vacation project ever: transforming a run-down 1900s mansion into a sunny, functional home for her family in Restoring Victoria, also a working title.

And Flipping Moms gives popular authors and mom bloggers Jen Pate and Barb Machen center stage as they try to balance busy family lives with buying, renovating and selling fixer uppers. 

“Viewers are very interested in renovation and flipping when it leads to the outcome that every community wants -- restored, well-maintained homes,” Allison Page, general manager, HGTV and DIY Network, said in a release. “HGTV has had tremendous success with series like Rehab Addict and Fixer Upper which showcase real people who have a passion for renovating older properties to enhance their value to the overall community.”

HGTV had a solid 2014, a down year for most cable programmers, with primetime ratings growing 4%. Top viewed series were Property Brothers, Property Brothers at Home, Flipping the Block and Tiny House Hunters, per the network.
