Peacock’s new mystery series Poker Face and Apple TV Plus’s comedy series Shrinking lead the list of new original series debuting during the last full week of January.

Poker Face, from Knives Out producer Rian Johnson, debuts January 26 and stars Natasha Lyonne as a fugitive card shark who travels the country and solves murders with her unique ability to tell if a person is lying. Also starring in the 10-episode series are Benjamin Bratt, Adrien Brody and Stephanie Hsu. 

Shrinking, produced by Ted Lasso creators Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein, stars Jason Segal as a therapist who takes an unusual approach in treating his patients while dealing with his own grief. Also starring in the Apple TV Plus series, which debuts January 27,  are Harrison Ford — in his first comedy TV series role — as well as Jessica Williams and Christa Miller.

Harrison Ford and Jason Segel are in the cast of Shrinking on Apple TV Plus, which sees both actors play therapists. There are 10 episodes and the first two are available on Friday, January 27.

The show was created by Segel, Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein.

Jessica Williams, Lukita Maxwell and Luke Tennie are also in the cast.

Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making tumultuous changes to people's lives, including his own. Ford plays a therapist as well.

Lawrence co-created Ted Lasso and Goldstein is in the cast.

Segel played Marshall on How I Met Your Mother. He created the AMC show Dispatches From Elsewhere. As a teen, he was on Freaks and Geeks.

Ford told the NY Times playing a therapist is a bit of a stretch for him. "I’ve never been to a psychiatrist in my life," he said.

Shrinking is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bill Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel, Goldstein, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Randall Winston, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer are executive producers. ■

Paramount Plus offered an early look at its Yellowstone prequel 1923, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford.

The series, from Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, features a new generation of Duttons and explores the early 20th century when pandemics, historic drought, the end of Prohibition and the Great Depression all plague the mountain west and the Duttons who call it home, according to Paramount Plus.

Along with Mirren and Ford, 1923 stars Brandon Skelnar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Julia Shlaepfer and Jerome Flynn. 

The 1923 series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and executive produced by Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari and Ben Richardson. ■

ABC has revealed the presenters at the 93rd Oscars, which airs live on ABC Sunday, April 25. Angela Bassett, Halle Berry, Bong Joon Ho, Don Cheadle, Bryan Cranston, Laura Dern, Harrison Ford, Regina King, Marlee Matlin, Rita Moreno, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Renée Zellweger and Zendaya will present Academy Awards.

Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh are producing the event. “In keeping with our awards-show-as-a-movie approach, we’ve assembled a truly stellar cast of stars,” said the trio. “There’s so much wattage here, sunglasses may be required.”

Additional talent will be announced later. 

Best Picture is between Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Minari, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, The Father and The Trial of the Chicago 7. 

The 93rd Oscars will be held at Union Station Los Angeles and the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and international locations via satellite. The event starts at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. 

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosts the Oscars. Glenn Weiss directs. 

Amazon has greenlit a new series based on author Tom Clancy’s popular CIA character Jack Ryan.

The 10-episode series, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, will star John Krasinski (13 Hours, The Office) as Ryan, who uncovers a pattern in terrorist communication that launches him into the center of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale, according to Amazon.

Carlton Cuse (Bates Motel) and Graham Roland (Almost Human) will serve as executive producers on the series, developed by Paramount and Skydance Television.

The Jack Ryan character has been portrayed onscreen in several Hollywood projects by such actors as Alex Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.

“We’re excited to add the Jack Ryan global franchise to our robust originals pipeline,” said Roy Price, Head of Amazon Studios in a statement. “Our customers will enjoy a compelling adaptation of the action-packed spy thriller book series, further raising the bar for the quality level of storytelling that has made Prime Video a leading destination for content.”

German sci-fi fans in need of a stiff midichlorian fix will get that and then some come December, when satellite giant Sky Deutschland turns over its Sky Hits channel into Star Wars HD channel for two weeks, dedicated to airing all six movies in the canon.

The movies will be shown in their narrative order – starting with 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace and ending with the 1983 Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. In addition to the films, the channel will air documentaries and featurettes about the iconic science fiction franchise. The launch comes about a year before The Walt Disney Co., which purchased Star Wars creator Lucasfilm in 2012, is slated to release the next film in the franchise – Star Wars: Episode VII, which will bring back actors from the original trilogy including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

“We are well aware that December 18th 2015 is much too long for fans to wait until the release of Star Wars: Episode VII. Many thanks to our outstanding partners Disney and Lucasfilm for the opportunity to exclusively offer Sky Star Wars HD,” said Sky Deutschland executive vice president of programming Gary Davey in a statement. “For someone who has been a Star Wars fan since the first film 37 years ago, this project is a dream come true.
