Apple TV Plus's drama series The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey is among several new series, movies and documentaries debuting during the first full week of March. 

The six-episode series stars Samuel L. Jackson as an elderly man with dementia who uses an opportunity to remember his past to complete some unfinished business, according to the streaming service.

Drama Good Trouble is getting a fourth season on Freeform. The network announced the news after the season three finale Sept. 8, which found Callie questioning the career choices she’s made.

Good Trouble follows the residents of downtown Los Angeles’ The Coterie as they juggle career, love and friendship and learn that standing up for what you believe in requires making a little noise and getting into trouble.

In the cast are Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, Sherry Cola, Tommy Martinez, Zuri Adele, Emma Hunton, Josh Pence and Beau Mirchoff.

Good Trouble is co-created by Joanna Johnson, Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg. Johnson executive produces along with Gregory Gugliotta, Christine Sacani, Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, Jennifer Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina.

Good Trouble is a spinoff of The Fosters. 

The month of February rolls along with several returning series hitting airwaves this week. 

OWN on Feb. 16 will debut season five of its Ava DuVernay-produced drama series Queen Sugar, while Freeform on Feb. 17 will bring back its drama series Good Trouble for its third campaign. 

Also premiering this week is Hulu’s highly-touted movie Nomadland, which stars Frances McDormand as a woman who leaves her small town to travel the country. The film debuts on Hulu and in theaters on Feb. 19.

The second week of January features a bevy of new and returning show premieres from cable networks and streaming services.

Paramount network on Jan. 15 will premiere 68 Whiskey, a new drama series chronicling army medics serving in Afghanistan, while Apple TV+ on Jan. 17 launches a new family-themed series Diary of a Future President.

On the returning series front, Netflix will launch the sixth season of its comedy series Grace and Frankie on Jan. 15, while the next day  Freeform will launch the third season of grown-ish.

Freeform is finding ratings success with its holiday stunt programming on the linear channel while preparing to roll out several original series on both linear and digital in January.

The Walt Disney-owned network finished the first week of December as the 10th most watched cable network in primetime, led by its “25 Days of Christmas” movie programming lineup featuring the Home Alone movies, the Santa Clause films and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Overall during the first 10 days of December, the network is ranked second in primetime among all cable networks within its core adult 18-34 audience behind only ESPN, according to Nielsen.

Freeform president Tom Ascheim discusses in a recent interview the network’s recent linear ratings success while outlining Freeform’s multi-platform distribution strategy for its original shows, including the January returns of Grown-ish, Good Trouble and The Bold Type as well as a reboot of the drama series Party of Five (pictured) and new comedy series Everything is Going to Be OK. An edited transcription of the interview appears below.

How has Freeform’s 25 Days of Christmas programming stunt been able to break through the clutter of holiday programming across the cable TV dial?

The world is really hard right now. We see what’s going on in the government, and there’s a lot of not good feelings in our country. People are looking for programming that serves as comfort food, and the lifeblood of our holiday programming in October, November and December has been comedy, both through familiar movies and with originals built around that content like our new reality series Wrap Battle. I think it's the blend of that programming and the diversity of the offering that makes us successful during this holiday period.

The network’s targeted youth audience views a lot of video content on the web. How are you reaching those audiences where they want to view and consume content?

We have the pleasure of using two platforms that work super strongly for us, but work differently. The linear network is up and strong and powerful, and a lot of that is from content that is familiar and packaged in a way that makes it interesting. Our core original series are also important on our network but they have a huge secondary life, especially on Hulu, in delayed and non-linear viewing. When you have multiple seasons of a series available on Hulu you can continue to recruit people to your brand and your content. Young people are very important in the streaming world, and that’s why it's great that our company is spending so much time and money in making streaming powerful, and we feel lucky to be part of that.

Can you see the network launching original content first on digital and then bringing those episodes back to linear?

We actually sort of do that now. We launch sneak peeks of our originals on Hulu frequently, and in January we’ll premiere the first episode of Party of Five on Hulu Jan. 1 before premiering the first two episodes of the series on Freeform Jan. 8. We also basically launch day and date episodes of our series on our network and on Hulu, so for us the shows are really launching on two platforms at once. When we market our shows we tell viewers to watch on either Freeform on Hulu because we’re happy with both. The convenience of having them on both platforms at the same time is that we can market both with one set of marketing dollars. We can drive viewers to whatever platform they wish to find [content] on, but we can do it in one window. We think [the platforms] reinforce each other in ways that we think is good for both of us. 

GLAAD recently recognized Freeform as one of the top three cable networks offering the most LGBTQ characters in original programming. Do you ever worry about a backlash from some viewers who may still be uncomfortable with seeing such portrayals on screen?

The great thing about young people is that they are the most diverse generation ever, and will continue to be so. They are much less fixated on [labels] -- they don’t do black, white, straight, gay. They are a fluid generation, and so much of the population at this point is a blend of so many different things. Everybody has a relative who is somewhere on the fluid spectrum, so there’s a sense that this is normal to our audience. So I think what feels like a big deal to an older generation is not a big deal to our kids. We get a lot of joy from our community of young people, even if they are not represented by one of the stories that is in one of our original [series]. They feel like they get to see the world as it is and not as it’s often depicted on TV.

Paramount Network’s drama series Yellowstone returns for its sophomore campaign and OWN’s drama series Ambitions debuts over the next week.

Heading the list of scripted series premiering this week is drama series Ambitions, starring Robin Givens (pictured) and debuting on June 18.

Yellowstone, which stars Kevin Costner as a ranch owner who is in constant conflict with those he borders, kicks off its second season on June 19. Also returning for its sophomore campaign on June 20 is Sundance Now’s drama series Riviera.

Freeform will continue its black-ish spinoff series grown-ish for a third season, the network said during its Television Critics Association presentation Tuesday.

The series, which stars Yara Shahidi, Trevor Jackson and Francia Raisa, currently ranks as the number one comedy among women 18-49 and 13-34 in its second season, according to the network.

grown-ish is produced by ABC Signature Studios and executive produced by Kenya Barris, Kenya Barris, Julie Bean, Jenifer Rice-Genzuk Henry, Craig Doyle, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and E. Brian Dobbins.

The network also announced the renewal of freshman drama series Good Trouble, which stars Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez. Last week’s episode of Good Trouble marked Freeform’s top drama telecast since June 2018 among Women 18-34 and Females 12-34 and ranked as cable’s No. 1 scripted series among Females 12-34, said the network.

Freeform also set an April 9 date for the season three return of The Bold Type, which stars Katie Stevens, Aisha Dee, Meghann Fahy, Sam Page, Matt Ward, Stephen Conrad Moore, Nikohl Boosheri and Melora Hardin. In addition, the network announced the casting of Jordin Sparks (Sparkle), Matt Shively (The Real O’Neals) and Brooks Brantly for its upcoming comedy series Besties.

History’s new sci-fi series Project Blue Book leads the list of new cable and streaming services launching during the first full week of the new year.

Other shows launching during the week of Jan. 7-Jan. 13 include Nat Geo’s silicon valley-themed miniseries Valley Of The Boom and MTV’s reality series Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club.

Good Trouble is the official name of the spinoff to Freeform drama The Fosters, the network said.

The spinoff series, announced in January, follows Callie (played by Maia Mitchell) and Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) as they embark on the next chapter of their lives in Los Angeles.

Production starts this summer. Jon M. Chu will direct and executive produce the first episode.

Good Trouble is produced by Jennifer Lopez's Nuyorican Productions Inc. in association with Freeform.

Joanna Johnson, Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg are the Good Trouble creators and showrunners. Gregory Gugliotta, Christine Sacani, Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, Jennifer Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina are executive producers.

“We’re seeing millennials in this country doing extraordinary things, making noise, taking action,” said Johnson, Paige and Bredeweg in a statement. “Stirring up Good Trouble as they grow, strive and struggle to make the mess of their early twenties into the message. As Callie and Mariana venture to Los Angeles to start their adult lives and embark on their separate but intertwined journeys to change the world, they’re going to have all the Good Trouble they can handle.”

The Fosters series finale event airs June 4-6 on Freeform. The show is about a multi-ethnic family of adopted and biological kids raised by two mothers. Stef Adams Foster (Teri Polo), a police officer, and her wife, Lena Adams Foster (Sherri Saum), a school vice principal, have built a family with Stef’s biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon (David Lambert); their adopted twins, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Noah Centineo); and adopted siblings Jude (Hayden Byerly) and his half-sister, Callie (Maia Mitchell).
