HGTV has commissioned an additional 13 episodes of its original series Good Bones to debut in 2022, the network said.

The series follows Mina Starsiak Hawk, a real estate agent and mother of two, and her mom, Karen E. Laine, a lawyer, as they buy dilapidated properties in their hometown of Indianapolis, said the network. The pair will demolish the houses down to the studs and renovate them into dazzling family homes—all while offering a glimpse into their personal lives,” said HGTV.

“The great thing about signing off on a mid-season pick up is that we know we’ve got a good thing, a proven performer,” said Jane Latman, president, HGTV in a statement. “Mina and Karen have captivating personal lives, but they are also incredibly talented and creative when it comes to renovation and the camera loves them. It’s no wonder they continue to attract new fans season after season.”

The seventh-season renewal comes as the Good Bones spinoff series Good Bones: Risky Business is set to debut on Discovery Plus in summer 2022. The series stars Hawk as she goes solo to purchase the historic Sanders House in the Indianapolis neighborhood of Fountain Square.

The new season shows Hawk adjusting to caring for two young children while expanding her business, while Laine eyes semi-retirement. 

“Renovating homes in Indianapolis is the best job in the world, and we’re so fortunate to live out our passion every single day,” said Hawk. “It’s incredible to see the revitalization in the neighborhoods we love and to know that we’re playing a part in that.”

In the season six premiere episode, the pair takes an insect-infested Victorian house and attempts to transform it into “a chic oasis for a new family,” said HGTV. As the season continues, Laine and Hawk rescue more centuries-old homes in the Old Southside neighborhood, many of which seem impossible to salvage, venture into the Near Eastside community to overhaul a cottage-style home, and take on one of their biggest renovations yet with a five-bedroom property in Fountain Square. 

“Being able to focus on the projects I’m most passionate about is such a joy,” said Laine. “I’m ready for the freedom to explore what I love the most while continuing our work in the city we call home.” 

The new episodes stream on Discovery Plus beginning June 29.

Last season attracted more than 22 million viewers, according to HGTV. 

In 2020 the television production business faced major obstacles due to the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced production stoppages for most television shows. Only the most creative and innovative producers were able to navigate the challenges of the pandemic to deliver original content to network and viewers. 

One of those companies was ITV America under the leadership of CEO David George. The company -- through its vertical production companies including Leftfield Pictures, Sirens Media and Thinkfactory Media -- was able to deliver more than 400 hours of programming across 53 series in 2020 ranging from Netflix’s Emmy-winning series Queer Eye and Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey to HGTV’s Good Bones and Fox’s Hell’s Kitchen despite the challenges posed by the deadly pandemic. For some shows like CBS' reality series Love Island, ITV America was able to devise a strictly-enforced, safe “bubble” environment to produce new episodes for an industry hungry for new, original programming.  

New shows such as ABC game show The Chase and recent talent deals with such celebrities as Tiger King’s Howard and Carole Baskin has ITV America well positioned for continued success in the future. George’s innovative and successful leadership of ITV America has earned him Broadcasting & Cable’s 2021 Producer of the Year Award, joining producers Craig Piligian (Pilgrim Films & Television); Steven Weinstock and Glenda Hersh (Truly Original); and Dan Cesareo (Big Fish Entertainment) and Arthur Smith (A. Smith & Co.) in receiving the honor.

HGTV has ordered season six of Good Bones, meaning 14 new episodes of the mother-daughter home revitalization show. Mina Starsiak Hawk and Karen E Laine are the stars and Indianapolis is the setting. 

Season six is scheduled to run in summer 2021. 

Season five began June 9 and has attracted more than 19.8 million total viewers, HGTV said.

HGTV will launch a new series in March featuring the exploits of a mother/daughter home renovation duo.

The series, Good Bones, debuts March 22 and follows Karen Laine and Mina Starsiak as they buy homes in serious disrepair and transform them into remodels, according to network officials. In the premiere episode, the series stars tackle a dilapidated 600 sq. ft. one-bedroom home in the Barth neighborhood of Indianapolis that's infested with termites.
