Fox’s Tubi streaming service named Carolyn Forrest as senior VP, general counsel.

Forrest, who had been VP, legal affairs for Fox Television Stations, will report to Tubi CEO Farhad Massoudi. She replaces Alice McTighe, who left the company.

“Carolyn combines vast knowledge across the industry with a proven track record of guiding media companies with strategic IP legal oversight,” said Massoudi. “We’re thrilled she will be joining us at a key time for the company as we ramp up our global content and advertising initiatives.” 

Forrest was general counsel for New World Television, which Fox bought in 1997. Prior to that, she was with NBC. She began her career at law firms including Dow Lohnes & Albertson and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.

Comcast said it has named former Davis Polk & Wardwell chairman and managing partner Thomas Reid senior executive vice president, general counsel and secretary of the media giant. He will join Comcast in April and report to chairman and CEO Brian Roberts. He replaces Arthur Block, who will retire after 30 years at the company.

Reid has served as chairman and managing partner at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP since 2011, beginning his career at the firm in 1987. Reid also served as a managing director in the Investment Banking Division of Morgan Stanley from 2000 to 2003 and then rejoined Davis Polk. He will be based at Comcast’s headquarters in Philadelphia.

With his unique blend of skills and versatility, Tom is ideally suited to help us navigate the future. We look forward to his sage counsel for the entire organization.”

Roberts also praised Block, who served in Comcast’s legal group for 30 years and was general counsel for two decades.

Reid has served as Davis Polk’s lead partner with Comcast for nearly four years and has played a critical role in recent significant transactions, including the Sky acquisition completed last year.

I have had the great privilege of working with Art Block as he has grown and created one of the most respected legal groups in the U.S.”

Starz said it has named former Lionsgate executive Audrey Lee EVP and general counsel, reporting directly to CEO Chris Albrecht.

Lee will be based in the company’s Beverly Hills office and will be responsible for developing the strategic direction of business and legal affairs for the company, including affiliate negotiations, content acquisition and production, litigation and compliance. She will take over for chief legal officer David Weil, who joined Starz in 2014 and will continue in a consulting role.

“Audrey’s broad legal experience in the entertainment industry makes her the ideal choice to lead the Starz legal team as the network evolves and thrives with the growing original programming slate,” Albrecht said in a statement. “David has been instrumental in charting the strategic direction for the Starz businesses over the past several years and we thank him for his invaluable contributions to Starz and its evolution into a global media brand.”

Lee served as EVP and deputy general counsel at Lionsgate (which purchased Starz in 2016), working closely with the studio’s senior management team, supporting them on M&A activities and overseeing legal issues for Lionsgate’s SVOD channels, location-based entertainment, merchandising and gaming businesses. Prior to Lionsgate, Lee was SVP of legal affairs at Sony Pictures Entertainment where she oversaw all legal work relating to home entertainment and television distribution both domestically and in select international markets.

“I’m delighted to join Chis and his leadership team. I look forward to helping chart the course for the business during a time of rapid change for our industry,” Lee said in a statement. 

Nicholas Degani has been named acting FCC general counsel in an interim appointment following the departure of Jennifer Tatel, who was only named to the acting post last month.

FCC chair Ajit Pai signaled Degani's post was also temporary. The FCC general counsel serves as the agency's chief legal advisor.

Tatel had already been planning to exit the FCC to join a law firm when she took over as acting general counsel, according to sources, but postponed that move to fill in after the exit of general counsel Brendan Carr to become the third Republican FCC commissioner.

Degani had been senior counsel to the chairman, and before that his wireline legal advisor. He is a graduate of Harvard Law and Yale undergraduate.
