Little Demon, an animated series about a mother and daughter trying to live ordinary lives in Delaware despite Satan yearning for the daughter’s soul, premieres on FXX August 25. Danny DeVito voices Satan and his daughter, Lucy DeVito, is Chrissy. Rhea Perlman, who provides a guest voice on the show, married DeVito in 1982. 

Their son Jake is an executive producer, alongside Danny and Lucy. 

Aubrey Plaza voices Chrissy’s mother Laura, who was impregnated by Satan 13 years before. Besides Perlman, guest voices include Mel Brooks, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pamela Adlon. 

During TCA press tour, Lucy DeVito said the show touches on the good and bad that goes on in every family household. “That's the thing that our show deals with a lot, that kids and their parents can both be demons to each other, so it goes both ways,” she said. “In my household growing up, there was a lot of love and fun. But, of course, growing up is a tricky situation for every person.”

Danny mentioned some “crazy stuff” that happened when his kids were teens. “The idea of our show, Little Demon, really hits on the family issue that you go through during those teenage years, especially with all the different problems that you have,” he said, adding that Laura is “trying to keep her daughter protected from the man she fell madly in love with for one night” in Satan. 

“I don't blame them for trying to hide from me,” Danny DeVito continued, “because sometimes I can act like a real demon.”

Little Demon was created and written by Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner and Kieran Valla, who are co-showrunners. Fowler, Kirschner, Valla, Plaza, Dan Harmon, Jersey Films 2nd Avenue’s Jake, Lucy and Danny DeVito, and ShadowMachine’s Monica Mitchell, Corey Campodonico and Alex Bulkley are executive producers. 

A Variety review described the show as "gory, fun," and with "fiendish potential."

Plaza grew up in Delaware, where Little Demon is set. She and creators Fowler, Kirschner and Valla have known each other since they were teens, she mentioned during the TCA session. Plaza, who was on comedy Parks and Recreation, said her role in movie Child’s Play in 2019 gave her some horror experience.

“There's something about playing a single mother in a horror film that's really appealing to me,” said Plaza. “I don't know why. That's something I'll have to talk about to my therapist.” ■

Prime Video's superhero-themed original movie and Hulu's miniseries profiling an iconic heavyweight boxing champion headline the television projects debuting this week. 

Prime on Aug. 26 will premiere Samaritan, starring Sylvester Stallone as a reclusive superhero who is forced after retirement to defend his home city against a violent crime wave.

Premiering Aug 25 is Hulu's Mike, which chronicles the controversial life and career of boxer Mike Tyson. the eight-episode series stars Trevante Rhodes, Russell Hornsby and Harvey Keitel.

Season 15 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia starts on FXX Dec. 1. Two episodes air back to back, then shift to FX on Hulu Dec. 2. 

With the season premiere, It’s Always Sunny moves ahead of The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest running live-action comedy series in the history of American TV. Ozzie and Harriet ran from 1952 to 1966. 

The first episode is 2020: A Year in Review and the second sees the gang make Lethal Weapon 7. 

Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito are in the cast. 

It’s Always Sunny premiered in 2005. “The show has become a landmark for dark comedy and American satire, uniting the most devoted of fans from all over the country and abroad, and this monumental 15th season is truly one to crack open and celebrate,” said FXX.

McElhenney created the show and executive produces with Day, Howerton, David Hornsby, Megan Ganz, Rob Rosell, Nick Frenkel and Michael Rotenberg.

FX signed on for four more seasons late last year. “The pitch for Sunny came into FX within the first few weeks of my joining the company in 2004,” said John Landgraf, Chairman, FX Entertainment and FX Productions, at the time. “I was 42 and Rob McElhenney was 27. Rob McElhenney is now 43 and, strangely, I’m now 44— but I’m still at FX and he (with his original partners) is still running Sunny and will be for at least four more seasons. That kind of thing just does not happen in live action TV.” ■

Animated comedy Archer has been renewed for season 13 on FXX. There will be eight episodes and they will run in 2022.

Season 12 started Aug. 25 and concludes Oct. 6.

Archer was created by Adam Reed and is executive produced by Reed, Matt Thompson and Casey Willis at Floyd County Productions. The series follows Sterling Archer as he navigates the changing landscape of the spy world. In the current season, Archer and the gang face a new threat: a spy conglomerate known as IIA (International Intelligence Agency). With a limited number of spy jobs up for grabs, can The Agency compete against the soulless IIA, or will it get swallowed up?

“On behalf of our entire team of talented illustrators, animators, writers and actors, I just wanted to say … ahhh, damn. I had something for this. Nope. Lost it. So … I guess just thanks?” said Thompson and Willis.

FX Networks' returning series American Horror Story: Double Feature and Archer highlight a light week of original show premieres during the last full week of August.

The 10th season of the Ryan Murphy-produced anthology series debuts Aug. 25 and stars Sarah Paulson, Angelica Ross, Lily Rabe and Evan Peters. Episodes from American Horror Story: Double Feature will also stream the following day after premiering on FX.

Also returning this week is FXX’s animated series Archer for its 12th season on Aug. 25 and Apple TV Plus' drama series See for its second season on Aug. 27.

Several new original series and films as well as a reboot of a popular kids-targeted show highlight new programming slated to premiere during the week leading into Father’s Day.

Disney Plus on June 18 will premiere comedy-drama Physical, starring Rose Byrne as an unhappy housewife turned star workout instructor during the 1980s aerobics boom. 

Paramount Plus on June 17 will debut iCarly, a revival of the 2000s Nickelodeon hit series. Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor will reprise their roles from the original iCarly for the new series.

In a nod to Father’s Day, Netflix on June 18 will premiere Fatherhood, a movie drama starring Kevin Hart as a widower taking care of his newborn daughter.

FXX has greenlit a new animated comedy series starring Danny DeVito, the network said Tuesday.

The series, Little Demon, stars DeVito (It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia) as the Devil who seeks to gain custody of the soul of his 13-year old daughter (Lucy DeVito), which is protected by her reluctant mother (Aubrey Plaza).

The series is produced by Plaza along with Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner, Dan Harmon and Danny DeVito.

“Little Demon is a hilarious new animated horror comedy featuring Danny DeVito, Aubrey Plaza, Lucy DeVito and a host of other great talent,” said FX Entertainment president and original programming Nick Grad in a statement. “Creators Darcy Fowler, Seth Kirschner and Kieran Valla have teamed up with Danny, Aubrey, Dan Harmon, Jake and Lucy DeVito, and ShadowMachine as executive producers on this unique new series for FXX.”

Season two of comedy Dave is on FXX June 16. Dave Burd plays Dave, an aspiring rapper with neurotic tendencies. The season begins with two episodes. 

Episodes are on FX on Hulu the day after their premiere. 

Burd goes by Lil Dicky in rap circles. Lil Dicky broke out on YouTube in 2013 with “Ex-Boyfriend,” a mix of rap and singing and comedy. His debut album is called "Professional Rapper."

Season two guest stars include CL, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, Kevin Hart, Lil Nas X, Kareem Abdul and Rae Sremmurd. 

Taylor Misiak plays Ally, GaTa portrays GaTa, Andrew Santino plays Mike and Travis Bennett is Elz. 

The first season, which debuted in March 2020, averaged 9.4 million total viewers and was FX’s most watched comedy series ever, the network said.  

Burd and Jeff Schaffer created Dave. They executive produce along with Saladin K. Patterson, Ben Sinclair, Luvh Rakhe, Kevin Hart and Hartbeat Productions, Scooter Braun, Greg Mottola, Marty Bowen, Mike Hertz and SB Projects’ James Shin and Scott Manson. The series is produced by FX Productions.

FXX original series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been renewed for an additional four additional seasons, the network announced Thursday during Disney's investor day presentation.

The series, which will launch its 15th season in 2020, follows the exploits of four bar owners. The series stars Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito. The renewal deal will make It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia the longest live-action comedy series in television history, according to the network.

FXX has renewed the animated comedy Archer for a 12th season. Season 12 is slated to premiere in 2021.

Season 11 began Sept. 16. The season is averaging 2.43 million total viewers, according to FXX.

The 2019-20 Fall TV season officially kicks off this week with several cable and streaming services debuting shows as the broadcast networks launch their new and returning series.

Epix’s drama series Godfather of Harlem debuts Sept. 29, and stars Forest Whitaker as notorious gangster Bumpy Johnson, who looks to take back the Harlem underworld in the late 1960s after a long jail stint.

Streaming service Shudder on Sept. 26 will launch a reboot of the classic horror anthology series Creepshow, while Amazon Prime Video on Sept. 27 debuts a special musical finale for its Emmy-winning series Transparent.

Atlanta producer Stephen Glover has signed an exclusive production deal with FX Productions, the company said Wednesday.

Glover, who with his brother Donald developed the Emmy Award-winning FX comedy series as well as an untitled Marvel’s Deadpool animated series slated for FXX, will develop future television projects for FX Networks and other outlets, according to FX officials.

"We can’t wait to build on the success Stephen’s achieved as a writer and producer.” FX Networks and FX Productions co-president of original programming Eric Schrier said in a statement. “We appreciate everything Stephen has done to make Atlanta one of the best comedies on TV, taking an even bigger role with his brother Donald on the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool animated series, and now creating his own projects with the same uncompromising artistry.”

The Stephen Glover deal comes nearly a year after brother Donald signed a similar exclusive production deal with FX Productions.

FX Networks has renewed its comedy series You’re the Worst for a fifth and final season.

The Stephen Falk-created series will return for its fifth season on FXX in 2018, according to network officials. The series, which stars Chris Geere and Aya Cash, ends its fourth season tonight, said FX officials.

“Stephen Falk has been an extraordinary creative partner to work with over the past four years, and it is in that spirit that we came to the mutual decision to end You’re the Worst with its fifth season,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions in a statement. “Stephen’s singular vision for the series has been its guiding force from the start and our decision, while difficult, will allow the series to end on its own terms and in a way most satisfying to its devoted fans. We want to thank Stephen, the cast and the crew for everything they’ve done to make You’re the Worst one of the best comedies on TV.”

FX’s animated comedy series Archer is moving from FX to sister service FXX for its eighth season, the network announced Tuesday.

The series will launch its new season on FXX sometime this spring, joining other series like Always Sunny In Philadelphia and You’re The Worst that have made the move from FX to FXX. Archer has already been renewed for seasons nine and 10, according to network officials.

“Archer is an awesome addition to the growing slate of original comedies on FXX, where it will join It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Man Seeking Woman and You’re the Worst,” said Chuck Saftler, President of Program Strategy and COO, FX Networks. “Adam Reed, Matt Thompson and Floyd County continue to make one of the funniest shows on television and it’s great to see them earn the awards and acclaim that comes with one of the most loyal and avid fan bases in the industry.”

 FXX will bring back its sophomore comedy series Man Seeking Woman for a third campaign, the network announced Wednesday.

The series, which stars Jay Baruchel as a single man jostling through the often rigorous dating scene, finished its second season with 399,000 viewers on a Live+7 basis, up 2% from the series’ freshman campaign, according to network officials.

The 10-episode third season of Man Seeking Woman will debut on FXX in early 2017. The series, based on Simon Rich’s book of short stories, The Last Girlfriend on Earth, is produced by Rich, Jonathan Krisel, Andrew Singer, Ian Maxtone-Graham and Lorne Michaels.

“Man Seeking Woman had another great season this year and continues to offer one of the smartest and funniest takes on dating and relationships on TV today,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions in a statement. “We are excited to move forward on a third season of Man Seeking Woman with Simon, Jonathan, Andrew, Ian and Lorne, and thank Jay, Eric and Britt for keeping the show so enjoyable.”

FXX has renewed comedy It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia for its 13th and 14th seasons, the network announced Friday.

With the renewal seasons, the series, which stars Danny DeVito, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, will tie The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet as the longest-running live-action comedy series in television history, according to network officials.

Season 12 of the comedy will premiere in early 2017, according to network officials.

“If anyone doubts the power of a camcorder and a dream, just look at It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, which was a DIY backyard pilot when Rob, Charlie and Glenn brought it to FX and will go down in TV history as one of the most loved and enduring comedies,” said Nick Grad, president of original programming for FX Networks. “Few shows make it this far or have such devoted fans, and we owe it all to the creative vision and great humor of the creators and cast who keep Sunny fresh and inventive every season.”

FX’s horror series The Strain has been renewed for a third series, the network said as part of several announcements from its Television Critics Association Tour session Friday.

The network greenlit a new comedy series Better Things, co-created and starring Pamela Adlon, who plays a working actor and single mom trying to raise three daughters, said network officials. Adlon was recently nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for an appearance on FX’s series Louie.

In other FX Networks news, FX sister service FXX will debut in 2016 a new animated series Cassius and Clay, which follows the exploits of two bandits looking to survive in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic American South, said network officials. In addition, FXX said it will air the seventh season of animated series Archer. The series moves over from FX, which aired the first six seasons of the spy-themed comedy.

FX announced premiere dates for several of its shows, including freshman drama series The Bastard Executioner (Sept. 15), American Horror Story: Hotel (Oct. 7) and Fargo (Oct. 12)

FX Networks has added box office hits Furious 7, Home and The Longest Ride to its stable of hit movies as part of a multi-film licensing deal the network announced Thursday.

Furious 7 has grossed more than $250 million at the box office, while the animated Home has earned $130 million, said FX. The Longest Ride has garnered $15 million since its April 10 premiere, according to Box Office Mojo.

FX has also secured exclusive TV rights for its FX, FXX and FXM networks for Taken 3 and Kingsman: The Secret Service, $125 million domestic box office threshold, network executives said.

FXX scored big with its 12-day marathon of The Simpsons animated series.

The network averaged 1.3 million viewers in primetime during the Aug. 21 to Sept. 1 12-day marathon – up a whopping 542% over the network’s year to date audience, as well as 841,000 adults 18-49, an increase of 855% over the network’s 2014 average in the demo.

 Over a 24-hour basis, the network drew 955,000 total viewers and 633,000 adults 18-49. Overall the marathon was watched by nearly 25 million people, said FXX officials.

The Simpsons marathon propelled FXX to a fifth place finish among all cable networks in primetime averaging 1.4 million viewers, and third place total day finish (1.0 million viewers) during the week of Aug 25 to Aug. 31, according to Nielsen.    

FXX will air The Simpsons on Mondays from 6PM-Midnight E/P; Tuesdays from 8PM-Midnight E/P; Thursdays from 8PM-Midnight E/P; Fridays from 6PM-Midnight E/P; and Sundays from 4-8PM E/P. FXX will air movies and original series on Wednesdays and Saturdays, said the network.

For fans of Homer, Bart and Marge, it’s always been a world colored by The Simpsons. In October, "Simpsons World" will be the digital home for the first 25 seasons of the acclaimed animated series and beyond.

FXX, which last November acquired the cable syndicated rights to the Emmy-winning series, will bow the ultimate Simpsons digital experience featuring enriched branded content through SimpsonsWorld.com and handheld/connected devices via FXNOW, the authenticated multinetwork, on-demand video service supporting FX, FXX and FXM.  Through its deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television, FXX and FXNOW soon will become the respective exclusive cable network and non-linear homes for all seasons of The Simpsons, excluding those airing in their first run on Fox   FXX will get subsequent campaigns of The Simpsons as new seasons begin their first run on Fox.

But I think this is how people who love The Simpsons want to access it.”

At launch, about 60% of MPVDs are expected to offer the authenticated app, according to Chuck Saftler, FX Networks president of program strategy and COO. A complete rollout is expected in a little more than a year, he said. Non-authenticated subs only will have access to show clips.

FXX will launch its landmark acquisition via a record-breaking, late-summer marathon, encompassing 12 days. Starting on Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. and concluding at midnight on Sept. 1, FXX will air 552 Simpsons’ installments through the end of its first 25 seasons in chronological order. That skein only will be interrupted by the airing of The Simpsons Movie, following the series’ 400th episode.   

Beginning Sept. 2, FXX will regularly schedule The Simpsons episodes in fringe, primetime and late-night dayparts on weekdays and weekends. Additionally, every Sunday the network will broadcast a thematic mini-marathon consisting of eight Simpsons episodes beginning at 4 p.m., leading into the 8 p.m.broadcast on Fox.

Through its deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television, FXX and FXNOW will become the exclusive cable network and non-linear homes for all seasons of The Simpsons, excluding those airing in their first run on Fox   FXX will get subsequent campaigns of The Simpsons as new seasons begin their first run on Fox.

FXX has added a new half-hour comedy to its slate with a 10 episode order of Man Seeking Woman. 

The series, which stars Jay Baruchel as Josh Greenberg, is based on Simon Rich’s short story collection The Last Girlfriend on Earth. Rich also wrote the pilot and will serve as executive producer and showrunner. 

Rich’s former SNL boss Lorne Michaels also serves as executive producer alongside pilot director Jonathan Krisel and Andrew Singer. 

In addition to Baruchel, the cast is rounded out with up-and-coming comedy talent such as Eric André, Britt Lower and Maya Erskine. 

Man Seeking Woman is expected to premiere in 2015. 

Fox Cable Networks ad-sales president Lou LaTorre issued a rosy forecast for cable network ad sales in the coming broadcast year, with billings increasing about 5% in the upfront auctions and 5%-6% overall when scatter market sales are added in after the upfronts.

“Cable will be very healthy in this coming year,” LaTorre told reporters at an upfront briefing today at 21st Century Fox’s offices in New York City.

He projected the 5% gain in upfront ad-sales commitments as worth about $500 million to cable networks. Over the full year, he said, the gains should be about $1 billion.

He also said he did not think broadcasting and syndicated programming ad sales would see any increases, because of their “continued loss of audience.”

Those revenue forecasts are in line with projections this week from RBC Capital Markets analyst David Bank, who predicted no gain for broadcasters in terms of ad sales for the 2014-15 broadcast year compared with a 2013-14 total of about $13 billion.

Bank forecasts a 4% overall gain for cable network ad sales in 2014-15, rising to about $26.9 billion from about $25.9 billion.

As for ad pricing, LaTorre said he thought top cable networks (including FX) would see full-year of 7%-8% on a cost per thousand (CPM) impression basis. Smaller cable networks should see gains in the 3%-5% range, he said.

Bank’s upfront pricing prediction was a 7.1% gain for cable networks. He predicted 55.6% of all ad sales revenue would be booked in the upfront in the 2014-15 year for cable networks.

LaTorre also predicted more cable programmer deals -- especially for original shows that are heavily DVRed -- using C7, or viewership over seven days, instead of the C3 standard that measures commercial ratings over three days after a show's premiere. Cable originals gain about 6-8% in viewership over the extra time span, LaTorre said, and agencies can tell their clients they are adding great content at perhaps a "slight rollback" on a CPM basis for the later views. He said some broadcast-network deals were done last year using C7 and he thinks "several" cable networks will cut C7 deals this year.

Also at the upfront briefings, John Landgraf, CEO of both FX Networks and FX Productions, talked about the plan to pack FX and FXX with original programs while holding off adding originals to movie service FXM; the variables involved in doing subscription VOD deals with the likes of Amazon, Hulu and Netflix and the reasoning behind building a stockpile of comedies using so-called 10/90 orders.
