Disney Channel will extend the reach of its Frozen franchise with the development of new animated shorts from the Lego Group.

Along with four new animated Lego shorts to debut this fall, the new Frozen Northern Lights franchise extension will feature a collection of books and digital offerings. Northern Lights will feature the characters of Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Kristof, Sven as they travel on adventure to restore the glimmer of the Northern Lights, according to Disney.  

"Natural phenomenon meets cultural phenomenon in this all new story, 'Frozen Northern Lights,'" said Andrew Sugerman, executive vice president, Disney Publishing Worldwide. "We're excited to share this new adventure and offer fans great new ways to connect with their favorite characters thanks to a host of related books, digital games and activities."

Disney Channel will premiere popular animated movie Frozen on Feb. 15, the network said Wednesday.

The Walt Disney Animation Studios-produced movie is the highest grossing animated feature film ever, according to Disney. Along with the premiere of the film, Frozen’s snowman character Olaf will make an appearance on Disney Junior series Sofia The First on Feb. 15, said the network.

The Sophia The First episode will be available on WATCHDisneyJunior.com and the WATCH Disney Junior app beginning Feb 8. On Feb 2, Disney Publishing Worldwide will release an illustrated storybook and e-book based on the episode, said network officials

Disney is officially letting blockbuster Frozen go onto television. 

The animated movie, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film in 2014, will premiere on all Disney ABC Television Group networks starting February 2016. 

It will appear on the Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, ABC Family and ABC. 

The Walt Disney Co., fueled by strong gains at its cable networks and movie studios, reported record growth for fiscal 2014 and the fourth quarter, with overall revenue up 8% to $48.8 billion for the full year while segment operating income for the period rose 21% to $13 billion.

For the quarter, overall revenue rose 7% to $12.4 billion and segment operating income increased 12% to $2.8 billion.

“Our results for Fiscal 2014 were the highest in the company’s history, marking our fourth consecutive year of record performance,” Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger said in a statement. “We’re obviously very pleased with this achievement and believe it reflects the extraordinary quality of our content and our unique ability to leverage success across the company to create significant value, as well as our focus on embracing and adapting to emerging consumer trends and technology.”

Media Networks, which includes cable channels ESPN, The Disney Channel and ABC Family as well as broadcast network ABC, saw revenue rise 5% in the quarter to $5.2 billion, while segment operating income was flat at $1.4 billion. At the cable networks, segment operating income in the quarter was down 1% despite a 6% revenue increase, largely because of higher programming costs at ESPN. Disney said higher costs for Major League Baseball, college football and World Cup rights offset higher affiliate fees (including those from newly launched SEC Network) and increased advertising revenue.

For the year, cable networks revenue rose 5% to $15.1 billion and segment operating income was up 7% to $6.5 billion.

At Studio Entertainment, revenue in the quarter rose 18% to $1.8 billion, while segment operating income more than doubled to $254 million, fueled by the box office success of movies Guardian of the Galaxy and Maleficent and home entertainment sales associated with animated hit Frozen.

The Walt Disney Co. reported a jump in third quarter earnings as a flat performance at its TV businesses was more than offset by booming international box office business for films including Frozen.

Net income rose 22% to $2.25 billion, or $1.28 a share, from $1.85 billion, or $1.03 a share, a year ago. Revenues rose 8% to $12.5 billion.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations.

“Our strategy of building strong brands and franchises continues to create great value across our company,” CEO Bob Iger said in a statement., This quarter we delivered the highest EPS in the company’s history, and we’ve now generated greater EPS in the first three quarters of FY 2014 than we have in any previous full fiscal year. We’re extremely pleased with these results and we are also thrilled with the spectacular performance of Guardians of the Galaxy, which holds great promise as a new franchise for our company and once again reinforces the tremendous value of Marvel.”

Operating income at Disney’s media networks unit was flat at $2.3 billion. Revenues rose 3% to $5.5 billion.

At Disney’s cable networks, operating income was down 7% to $1.9 billion, despite a 1% rise in revenues to $3.9 billion. The company said the decline in operating income was mainly due to ESPN, which had higher programming and production costs associated with Major League Baseball and the World Cup. Also revenue that had been deferred in the third quarter this year was recognized earlier this year.

ESPN’s advertising revenue increased because of the World Cup, but was offset by two fewer NBA finals games being played this year.

Disney also said ABC Family’s operating income rose because of lower programming costs as a result of fewer our of original scripted programming.

Disney’s broadcasting operations had a 66% increase in operating income to $354 million. Affiliate fees rose and income from program sales was higher.
