Fuse, NAACP Team to Support ‘Show Me Democracy’ Documentary

Fuse has teamed with the NAACP civil rights organization to raise awareness of the issues highlighted in the network’s documentary Show Me Democracy airing this Saturday, the network said Thursday.

As part of the partnership, the NAACP will provide additional information on the issues showcased in Fuse’s April 29 documentary, which centers on seven St. Louis college students as they evolve into advocates and activists, demanding change through policy and protest in the wake of the 2014 Ferguson uprising, said the network.

Information provided by the NAACP will appear during the broadcast, and the organization will support tune-in through a variety of strategic social media account activations, said the network.

“We are proud to partner with the NAACP to present a viewing experience that goes beyond traditional and expands the level of engagement and awareness of crucial issues,” said Fuse Media President and CEO Michael Schwimmer in a statement. “As the inaugural project in our documentary series, our partnership with this legacy organization supports Fuse Media’s vision of creating a multiplatform conversation and providing key resources and additional content across all of our platforms.”

BET tomorrow night will air an exclusive interview With President Barack Obama regarding recent protests across the nation over controversial police actions.

The BET News Presents: A Conversation with President Barack Obama will air Dec. 8 at 6 p.m., according to the network.

During the interview Obama addresses community concerns and calls for justice and equality in the wake of recent and controversial grand jury decisions in Ferguson Mo. and New York City.

A portion of the interview, conducted by BET News’ Jeff Johnson, will air during BET’s 106 & Park music show at 5 p.m. Monday, said network officials.

ColorofChange: Media Have Contributed to Deadly Climate

Colorofchange.org is taking the media to task in advance for coverage of the Ferguson grand jury decision, saying the media has contributed to a hostile climate that has led to the death of Michael Brown and others. Brown was the unarmed teen shot by a Ferguson, Mo., policeman.

In an email to reporters Monday, the civil rights group said it was calling for "fair and honest" media coverage, which it suggested African Americans had not been getting.

"Recognition of the dangers posed by a hostile media climate for Black people is crucial at this very important juncture in our nation’s history," the email said.

It suggested that the Ferguson protestors were only exercising their constitutional rights and that the media should help protect those, "rather than contribute to a racist drumbeat against them."

ESPN To Profile Ferguson H.S. Football Team

ESPN’s E:60 news magazine series will profile the Ferguson, Mo. High School football team one month after the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The episode, which will air Sept. 9, will focus on the efforts of the McCluer South-Berkeley Bulldogs football team to focus on the upcoming season amid the recent events in the city surrounding Aug. 9 shooting of the18-year-old Brown.

The show will focus on how the team has endured despite living in a community engulfed by racial tensions, protests and looting over the past month.

E:60 reporter Jeffri Chadiha reports on the journey of the Bulldogs as they return to Ferguson to play their first home game of the season, said network executives.
