Grande Adds Pop TV, Fantasy Sports Network

Grande Communications, fresh off its $640 million purchase by TPG Communications, said it has reached a carriage agreement with Pop TV and Fantasy Sports Network that will make the channels available to its Texas customers Oct. 1.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed. Grande said the networks will be available to its customers in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Midland, Odessa, San Antonio, San Marcos, Temple, and Waco, Texas.

Pop TV is a joint venture of CBS and Lionsgate, focused primarily on popular culture. The channel provides syndicated re-runs and original programming like Sing It On (slated for 2017), Hollywood Darlings and The Joey McIntyre Project. Grande’s residential customers with the Premier TV package, the Variety and Sports Plus Paks and business customers with Digital Cable will automatically receive the network.

Fantasy Sports Network focuses entirely on fantasy sports programming and will automatically be added to the channel lineup for customers with the Residential Ultra Sports Pak or the Business Sports Tier package.

In August, private equity firm TPG agreed to purchase Grande and RCN for a combined $2.25 billion.

Fantasy Sports Network Launches On Rogers

Fantasy Sports Network is launching today (Sept. 1) on Rogers Cable in Canada, available in free preview until Oct. 31 and, after that, on the cable provider's Super Sports Pak, Extra Sports Pack and Sports Theme Pack packages, and as a separate purchase. It can be found on channel 499 in high definition and also is on the standard-definition lineup. Programming includes studio and call-in shows to inform fantasy-sports players.

“Our distribution on Rogers, combined with our presence on other systems across the country, now significantly expands FNTSY Sports Network to having a truly national footprint in Canada,” Leonard Asper, CEO of Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp, said in a release. “With football season right around the corner, the demand for 24/7 innovative fantasy sports coverage is greater than ever. We’re answering the call with expert-driven, relevant and timely content that will engage viewers year round.”

Anthem's combat-sports focused Fight Network is already on Rogers on channel 475 (HD) and 427 (SD).

Suddenlink Scores Sports Net Deals

Suddenlink Communications has inked carriage agreements with Fantasy Sports Network and Fight Network, the company said Monday.

The Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp.-owned networks will be available to 1.5 million Suddenlink subscribers across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and other markets. Both channels will be available in high-definition (HD) on Suddenlink’s Sports Plus Tier, according to network officials.

“FNTSY Sports Network and Fight Network offer sports enthusiasts new viewing and information options that complement the huge variety we offer in our sports packages,” said Suddenlink Senior Vice President and Chief Programming Officer Kathy Payne in a statement. “Fantasy sports popularity, in particular, has grown rapidly in recent years and our new offerings will help meet demands of that audience.”
