BET Plus will continue to partner with actress/comedian Patricia ‘Ms. Pat’ Williams, renewing Williams’ courtroom series Ms. Pat Settles It and setting a May premiere date for The Ms. Pat Show.

The second season of Ms. Pat Settles It stars the comedian as she takes on cases revolving around family and relationship dynamics, according to the streaming services. With a jury composed of Williams’ closest friends, family members, celebrity guest stars, and comedians, the series will focus on a wide array of cases encompassing financial disputes, romantic entanglements, roommate quarrels, neighborly conflicts, and a myriad of other issues, said BET Plus.

Emmy-nominated The Ms. Pat Show will return for a fourth season on May 23, and will continue to feature Williams in a starring role as a former drug dealer and convicted felon turned suburban mom. The series also stars J. Bernard Calloway and Ashley James. 

The two series are part of a multi-year production deal between Williams and BET Media Group, according to the company. Under this deal, she will produce and perform in other projects across the network.

Award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr., the first Black man to win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, has died at the age of 87.

Gossett appeared in more than 110 television shows and 68 films over a seven decade Hollywood career. He won a 1977 Emmy Award for his role in ABC's groundbreaking TV miniseries Roots.

Other television shows Gossett appeared in include The Mod Squad, The Partridge Family, The Cosby Show, The Jeffersons, The Josephine Baker Story, Touched By An Angel and The Book of Negroes. In 2020, Gossett’s appearance in HBO’s drama series Watchmen earned him the last of his eight Emmy nominations. 

On the big screen, Gossett in 1983 received an Oscar for his role as a no-nonsense Marine drill sergeant in An Officer and a Gentleman, which starred Richard Gere. Most recently Gossett appeared in the 2023 film The Color Purple.

Celebrities such as Colman Domingo, Stephanie Mills and Sheryl Lee Ralph took to social media in tribute to Gossett. Actor James Woods, who starred with Gossett in the 1992 film Diggstown, called Gossett “a true gentleman.” 

HBO will say goodbye to assassin/actor Barry Berkman as the network’s Emmy-award winning series Barry will end its run after season four.

Barry will launch its eight-episode, fourth and final season on April 16, according to HBO. Barry follows Berkman, played by Bill Hader, who works as a reluctant hitman who changes course and joins a class of aspiring actors but is never able to escape his past.

The series has won multiple Emmy Awards, including two for Hader in the outstanding lead actor in a comedy category and a supporting actor in a comedy series award for Henry Winkler.

Along with Hader and Winkler, the series stars Sarah Goldberg, Stephen Root, Anthony Carrigan and Sarah Burns.

Barry is executive produced by Hader, Alex Berg, Aida Rodgers and Liz Sarnoff.

“After three masterful seasons of Barry, we are eager for viewers to see the powerful, complex and hilarious conclusion to Barry Berkman’s story," HBO and HBO Max Comedy Programming Executive VP Amy Gravitt said in a statement. "It has been a pleasure working with this immensely talented team including Bill Hader, Alec Berg, Aida Rodgers and the entire exceptional cast and crew.”

Barry's final season announcement comes on the heels of the March 26 launch of HBO's Emmy-winning series Succession's fourth and final season. ■ 

HBO will bring back its Emmy-winning limited series The White Lotus for a second season beginning October 30, the network said Friday.

The series, which follows the exploits of guests and employees at an exclusive resort over the span of a week, won 10 Emmy Awards last month, including outstanding limited or anthology series.

The second installment of The White Lotus stars F. Murray Abraham, Jennifer Coolidge, Adam DiMarco, Beatrice Granno, Meghan Fahy, Michael Imperioli and Aubry Plaza.

Emmy-nominated drama series The Boys will return to Prime Video for its third season June 3, the streaming service announced Friday. 

The Boys follows the exploits of popular superheroes who abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good, according to the streaming service. 

Karl Urban, Anthony Starr and Jack Quaid star in the series, which was nominated for an 2021 Emmy Award for outstanding drama series.

Canoe Ventures was awarded a Technology and Engineering Emmy for cross-MVPD dynamic ad insertion for cable network video-on-demand content.

Canoe will be honored at the 72nd Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards Ceremony, which is tentatively scheduled to be done virtually on Oct. 10.

Pop TV has released a teaser trailer for the final season of its Emmy-nominated comedy series Schitt's Creek.

The series, which stars Eugene Levy, Annie Murphy and Catherine O'Hara, will debut its sixth and final season on Jan. 7, according to Pop TV. 

The series received four 2019 Emmy Award nominations, including one for Best Comedy Series. 

HBO Friday released the official video trailer for its comedy series Barry, which returns for its sophomore season March 31.

The series, which stars Emmy Award winners Bill Hader and Henry Winkler, follows the exploits of a depressed hitman who turns to acting as a refuge from his tumultuous and dangerous career. 

Barry won 2018 Emmy Awards for best actor in a comedy series (Hader) and best supporting actor in a comedy series (Winkler).
