Vevo’s Elvis Presley catalogue has gotten a big boost from the release of the new film Elvis.

The music video streaming service said that views across the entire collection of videos, concerts and specials more than doubled over the film’s opening weekend.

Views of Elvis performing If I Can Dream and Jailhouse Rock from his ‘68 Comeback Special were almost five times higher over the weekend compared to the previous 10 weekends. The film, starring Austin Butler as the King of Rock 'n' Roll and Tom Hanks as manager Col. Tom Parker, replicates the 1968 special in great detail.

If I Can Dream was the most viewed Elvis music video on Vevo over the weekend, followed by Presley's Can’t Help Falling in Love and Suspicious Minds.

The short film A Boy From Tupelo increased its views by 22 times as fans refreshed their recollections of the Presley’s story, Vevo said. ■

Cinedigm has made a deal with Elvis Presley Enterprises to launch The Elvis Presley Channel, an ad-supported VOD and linear streaming service.

The channel will feature archival content and specials featuring Presley, as well as music content from other influential rock and roll artists such as Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison.

The Elvis Presley Channel is expected to launch in early 2022 and will be available in the United State and Canada via connected TVs, digital set-top boxes, media streaming devices and the web.

Cinedigm already has relationships in place with distributors including Samsung, Pluto TV, Hulu, Amazon and Tubi.

"There are few individuals more iconic than Elvis Presley, he transcends time, genre and medium," said Erick Opeka, president of Cinedigm Digital Networks. "The opportunity to build a branded channel around Elvis opens up streaming possibilities to an entirely new demographic in the fastest-growing segment of the ad-supported business. Cinedigm said it was looking to create channels around iconic individuals and sports teams. Already, one of its most popular networks is The Bob Ross Channel, showcasing the well-known painter.

AXS TV will develop a new documentary series that will look into questions surrounding some of history's greatest musical artists. 

The six-episode series, Music's Greatest Mysteries, will debut later this fall and will investigate infamous myths which have come to define the music industry throughout the decades. The series will look into such questions as Why Did Michael Jackson And Prince Feud?, Was Elvis A Narc?, and Is Avril Lavigne Really Dead?, as well as addressing The Conspiracies Of Backmasking, The Myths Of  KISS, and The Sad Story Of “Friends In Low Places,” according to network officials.

Featuring some of the biggest names in music, packed with expert commentary, and exploring compelling stories both known and unknown, Music’s Greatest Mysteries promises to reveal new tales to even the most seasoned music fans. I am excited to share this new series with our viewers when it debuts later this year.”

AXS TV in October will profiles the lives and deaths of some of music’s most influential artists as part of a new series, The Day The Rock Star Died.

The 15-part series, which debuts Oct. 2, examines such artists as Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley and Whitney Houston, with a focus on what made these artists so incredible and what makes their art so enduring, said network officials.

The series will precede the return of AXS’ news/interview series The Big Interview with veteran journalist Dan Rather.

“AXS TV is dedicated to providing viewers with the absolute best in classic rock programming, and we are proud to expand our growing roster of quality music-themed programming even further with the addition of The Day The Rock Star Died,” said Lucia McCalmont, vice president of program acquisitions and scheduling, AXS TV in a statement. 

Cable network AXS TV, owned by media mogul Mark Cuban, has teamed with Sharknado producer The Asylum on the made-for-TV film Elvis Lives!, a conspiracy thriller that asks the age-old question: “What if Elvis never really left the building?”

The made-for-TV film – AXS TV’s first – is currently starting pre-production. Battling drug addiction and a failing voice, the movie depicts Elvis’ efforts to put his life back on track. But after he helps the police bring down a powerful crime syndicate, the King is caught in a trap he apparently can walk out of, putting his family in danger and sending him on a life-changing journey.

Cuban commissioned the film after starring in another The Asylum production – Sharknado 3 – where he played the President of the United States.

“When the decision was made to develop AXS TV’s first original made-for-TV movie, I knew I had to get The Asylum team involved because it was a great experience working with them on Sharknado 3,” Cuban said in a statement. “They’re the perfect fit to bring this wild ride to life, as we celebrate the life and legacy of the The King’s reign, crafting a unique and original storyline that explores the well-known conspiracy theories and allows our viewers to form their own conclusions.”

The Asylum’s partners Paul Bales, David Michael Latt and David Rimawi will produce along with David Garber. The Asylum will also handle worldwide sales on the film.

“With Elvis Lives! we intend to do for the life of Elvis Presley what Sharknado did for flying sharks,” says Asylum president and conspiracy theorist David Rimawi in a statement. 

CMT will sing the praises of rock n’ roll through its new scripted drama Million Dollar Quartet, the network said Wednesday.

The series, based on the Tony Award-winning musical of the same name, focuses on the 1950s musical collaboration of a young Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis and their meteoric rise to fame in the face of sweeping political change and social unrest.

The series will be produced by Thinkfactory Media, with Leslie Greif and Gil Grant serving as executive producers, and Colin Escott as producer, according to CMT.

“Million Dollar Quartet will capture the star-crossed Memphis moments which led to the most explosive pop culture movement of the 20th Century, the birth of Rock ‘n’ Roll,” remarked Brian Philips, CMT president. “The characters are all larger-than-life, so casting is a daunting challenge, but we’re counting on the magic of Memphis to come alive again! This is among our most ambitious projects ever, and we entrust it to a proven epic filmmaker, Leslie Greif.”

From the 7th Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction, Fox Sports will provide 23 hours of live coverage starting September 25 at 7 p.m.

Airing on Fox Sports 2 and Fox Sports Go, Elvis Presley’s ’67 Cadillac Coupe de Ville and Johnny Cash’s ’70 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow on the Block will be featured. 

Lead by Bob Varsha, an eight-member team including Mike Joy, Steve Magnante, Rick DeBruhl, Justin Bell, April Rose, Ralph Sheheen and Tom Jensen, will kick off the auctioning from the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas.

The auction will finish with a 10-hour live block on National Geographic Channel on September 27th at 2 p.m.

The Hagerty Fantasy Bid will allow viewers to compete in guessing the final “hammer” price prior to 16 chosen cars through three days of coverage.

In the first year, 50,000 bids were recorded through the interactive fantasy bid, topping more than 1.5 million in past years.
