HGTV has renewed its competiton reality series Ellen's Design Challenge, the network said Monday.

The series, developed by the talk show personality, finished its freshman campaign as HGTV's most watched series in the network's history, said network officials. The furniture design competition series will return in January 2016.

“Ellen has unparalleled star power and universal appeal, so it was a thrill for us welcome her to HGTV in 2015,” said Kathleen Finch, president, HGTV, DIY Network and Great American Country in a statement. “With the resounding success of season one behind us, we are pleased to bring Ellen back to our air and our teams are completely focused on making season two even better. Additional episodes, big, fun surprises and the special look behind-the-curtain are only a few of the elements that will have America buzzing about season two of Ellen’s Design Challenge.”

HGTV said its 0.58 primetime rating among viewers ages 25-54 in February made that month the network's highest rated ever, surpassing the mark just set in January 2015.

HGTV said the primetime ratings grew 18% over that of February 2014. And on the weekends, 6% growth led to a 0.55 rating among viewers ages 25-54 on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Series such as Ellen’s Design Challenge, Fixer Upper and Property Brothers led the way. More than 43 million total viewers watched HGTV in primetime in February, the Scripps Networks outlet said.

The finale of the Ellen DeGeneres show airs Monday, March 2, at 9 p.m. ET/PT as the last two competitors -- Tim McClellan of Durango, Colo., and Katie Stout of Brooklyn, N.Y. -- go head-to-head to win a $100,000 cash prize courtesy of Wayfair.com and a feature in HGTV Magazine. HGTV said it finished second among women ages 25-54 and first among upscale women in that bracket among cable networks.

Six-episode furniture competition series, Ellen’s Design Challengefeaturing Ellen DeGeneres, is set to premiere on Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. on HGTV, the network announced today.

Ellen's first on-cable series will feature six competitors who face design challenges on the clock, while expert carpenters help each complete their tasks. The winner will recevie a $100,000 cash prize, courtesy of Wayfair.com, and their work will be featured in HGTV Magazine.

The series is produced by Ellen's production company, A Very Good Production and A. Smith & Co. in association with Telepictures. Executive producers include, Ellen, Jeff Kleeman of A Very Good Production and Arthur Smith, Kent Weed and Tim Eagan of A. Smith & Co.

Television personality Jay Montepare is set to host with judges, Amanda Dameron, editor-in-chief of Dwell, and Christiane Lemieux, executive creative director of Wayfair.com.
