Performers lined up for Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party on NBC include singer-songwriter Sia, rapper Latto, rock band Liily, hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd and singer-songwriter Fletcher. 

Saturday Night Live cast member Chloe Fineman, comedienne Sarah Sherman and comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy will also appear.

Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton host the telecast December 31. The live event goes 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. ET. 

Lorne Michaels and Miley Cyrus executive produce, and Jesse Ignjatovic and Evan Prager executive produce for Den of Thieves. Tish Cyrus’ Hopetown Entertainment produces and Joe DeMaio directs.

Holiday special Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas airs Thursday, December 1 on NBC. Jimmy Fallon, Willie Nelson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmie Allen, Zach Williams and Miley Cyrus join Parton on the two-hour special movie.

“A modern-day movie musical about the making of a network TV special, Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas is the frenetic backstage story and delightful on-camera results of Dolly’s desire to uplift an exhausted world’s spirits by sharing the unique mountain magic she has always found in and around Dollywood at Christmas,” said NBC. “Throughout the movie’s production numbers and rehearsal chaos, Dolly finds herself taking a private journey into her past, guided by the mysterious appearances of her personal Three Wise Mountain Men. When it’s time for her big special to air, a renewed and inspired Dolly goes rogue and shows the world that the real magic of Christmas lies in the hearts of the children we all once were, the realization that Christmas is about the people we share it with, and how her faith remains the common thread between Christmases past, present, and future.”

Tom Everett Scott, Angel Parker and Ana Gasteyer also star. 

The film will include two classic Parton songs, “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” a new holiday track and a number of other Christmas songs.  

David Rambo wrote and executive produced the special with Sam Haskell and Dolly Parton. Joe Lazarov directed and executive-produced, and Hudson Hickman exec-produced as well. 

Warner Bros. Television produced Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas in association with Magnolia Hill Productions and Sandollar Productions.

CBS will air A Holly Dolly Christmas, a holiday special featuring Dolly Parton, Dec. 6. Parton will perform holiday classics and hymns while sharing “personal Christmas stories and faith-based recollections of the season,” said CBS. 

The one-hour special will also stream live and on demand on CBS All Access. 

“When Dolly Parton calls and tells you she wants to do a Christmas show, you don’t hesitate,” said Jack Sussman, executive VP, specials, music & live events/alternative & reality, CBS. “A special with the multi-Grammy Award-winning, prolific song-writing, epic live performer of all time? A Holly Dolly Christmas is produced by Sandollar Productions and NOZ Entertainment. Executive producers are Dolly Parton and Danny Nozell.

Parton has an album called A Holly Dolly Christmas.

A&E Network will produce three April specials around country music legends Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, the network announced Wednesday.

The Willie Nelson: American Outlaw special debuts April 12 and pays tribute to Nelson’s seven-decade long career through on-stage performances, interviews and behind the scenes concert footage. The special also offers a look at the Willie Nelson tribute concert, which includes appearances from George Strait, Jimmy Buffett, Chris Stapleton, Dave Matthews, Eric Church, Emmylou Harris, Jack Johnson, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Norah Jones and The Little Willies, according to the network.

Also on April 12, the network will premiere Biography: Dolly, which will explore the life and five-decade career of the songwriter/performer who has influenced generations of country and pop artists. The special will feature interviews with Lily Tomlin, Chris Stapleton, Jane Fonda, Kylie Minogue and other friends and fellow musicians.

Biography: Kenny Rogers, premieres April 13 and follows his journey to country singer, actor and pop-culture icon, said the network.

MCN Take: According to Sanford Bernstein media analyst Todd Juenger, Netflix could nearly double its global subscribers to 300 million by 2026, an estimate even he says is conservative.

Netflix Renews '13 Reasons Why' for Third Season, Despite Controversy

TWIN: The third season will commence sometime in 2019, according to Netflix. The controversial series, about a high school girl who commits suicide, has received a torrent of complaints from parents groups since its 2017 debut, claiming it glorifies teen suicide and bullying.

MCN Take: Despite the criticism, the show is one of Netflix’s most popular. The second season, which debuted May 18, drew an average audience of more than 2.6 million viewers, with viewers watching an average of more than four episodes of the 13-episode series during its first weekend, according to Nielsen data.

Netflix to Adapt Dolly Parton Songs for Series

TWIN: The country music icon will executive produce an anthology series for which Parton’s songs will supply the plot. Eight Parton songs will be adapted into standalone episodes.

MCN Take: It won’t be the first time a Parton song will be adapted for video – her song "Coat of Many Colors" has been adapted for NBC’s Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors in 2015 and a 2016 follow-up, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors.

Rock Tells Obamas to Make Money Elsewhere

TWIN: Comedian Chris Rock commented on the reported 8-figure development deal former President Barack Obama and his wife, former First Lady Michelle, made with Netflix, telling The Hollywood Reporter that he did not want to “live in a world where President Obama is worried about his Rotten Tomatoes score.”

MCN Take: Rock, who signed his own $40 million deal with the streaming service two years ago, said he wanted the former President and First Lady “above that at all times,” adding he wants the Obamas to make money, just not like that.

Netflix Announces 'Orange Is the New Black' Season 6 Premiere Date

TWIN: The sixth season of the Jenji Kohan-helmed drama will drop on July 27, a little more than a year after its Season 5 debut, which depicted a riot at the minimum security women’s prison after one of its own, Poussey, played by actress Samira Wiley, was killed by a corrections officer. In a cryptic trailer for the new season, a wrecked prison cafeteria is shown, followed by a prison bus under the header "To the Max," suggesting that the women could find themselves in the maximum security section of the facility.

MCN Take: Kohan signed a multi-year deal with Netflix in November – she also is behind female wrestling-themed series Glow, whose second season will air June 29. Orange Is the New Black continues to be one of the most popular series on the streaming service.

Netflix is at work on an anthology series based on Dolly Parton songs. 

Eight of the country icon's songs will be adapted into standalone episodes, Netflix said.

Parton’s songs have been adapted to screens big and small. “Coat of Many Colors” was the inspiration for NBC’s Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, which aired in December 2015 and focused on Parton’s childhood in Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains. (Parton took the stage at the NBC upfront presentation in 2015, playing “I Will Always Love You” with Robert Greenblatt, NBC Entertainment chair, on the piano.)

NBC later acquired Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors, representing the next chapter in the life of a young Parton. That aired in late November 2016.

“Jolene” was a 2008 feature film, with Jessica Chastain playing the title character, a teen who busts out of foster care. Dan Ireland directed.

In a statement, Parton said she enjoys telling stories in her music.

Great American Country on Dec. 13 will broadcast a benefit concert to aid those affected by the Tennessee wildfires, the network said Wednesday.

The three-hour telethon/concert, Smoky Mountains Rise: A Benefit For the My People Fund, will feature performances by Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers and Alison Krauss, according to GAC. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Dollywood Foundation My People Fund, established by Parton in the wake of last week’s wildfires in Sevier Country, Tenn.

During the telethon, viewers will be asked to call 1-866-CARE MORE to donate to the My People Fund.

“My home in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee is some place special,” Parton said in a statement. “Wildfires have affected many of the people—my people—who live in those beautiful mountains. We want to provide a hand up to those families who have lost everything in the fires. I know it has been a trying time for my people and this assistance will help get them back on their feet.”
