DogTV said it has gotten an additional round of investment led by Discovery that will help fund the growth of its direct-to-consumer channel, international initiatives and new content.

Discovery first invested in DogTV in 2014. The amount of the new investment was not disclosed.

DogTV said it will use the investment to make more pet owners aware of DogTV’s two-year old direct-to-consumer channel. Part of that effort will include free content that will be available on myDogTV via the company’s app.

"We appreciate the continued partnership and confidence in our product that has been offered by Discovery, Inc. over the years," said Gilad Neumann, DogTV’s CEO. "This new investment allows us the opportunity to grow the channel in ways we haven’t been able to in the past."

In addition to the U.S., DogTV is available in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal and South Korea. It plans to expand into more canine-loving countries.

Premium cable network DogTV has reached a carriage deal with Dish, the network announced Thursday.

The service, which offers video content targeted to stay-at-home dogs and their owners, will be offered to Dish's satellite customers for $4.99 a month on channel 285, according to network officials.

The deal increases DogTV’s reach in the US by 30% and will help the service get in front of 70 million subscribers by the end of 2018, said the network. Part owned by Discovery Inc., DogTV is also available through DirecTV, Comcast's X-1 platform, RCN, Apple TV, Chromecast, Amazon FireTV, Roku, and as an iOS and Android app.

DogTV, the Discovery-backed network for canines, said it has launched a VOD offering on Comcast’s pay TV platform.

DogTV said the SVOD offering fetches $4.99 per month via Comcast. That’s a bit of a price break from DogTV’s OTT subscription service, which currently goes for $9.99 per month, $24.99 for a three-month subscription, or $84.99 for a year.

DogTV said the subscription includes original content that, it says, is “scientifically developed and tested” for stay-at-home dogs, and features categories such as relaxation and stimulation for those pups. Programs include Water Dogs, Noise Phobia and Dogs in Cars.

"The secret life of pets is not so secret—dogs need entertainment and enrichment, just like humans. The new DOGTV offering with Comcast has content with auditory and visual stimuli designed just for dogs, and we also have programming for their pet parents as well," Gilad Neumann, CEO and co-founder of DogTV, said in a statement.

"DOGTV's unique collection of programming for the four-legged members of families is a great addition to our Xfinity On Demand catalog and a great example of how Xfinity is working to increase consumer choice and selection," added Daniel Spinosa, GM of movies, pay-per-view and commerce at  Comcast.

DogTV also distributes its content via other MVPDs, including DirecTV and RCN, and on a range of OTT platforms, including Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV devices, Roku players and mobile apps for iOS and Android.

DogTV adds to a growing mix of subscription VOD offerings from Comcast.  Other examples include Gaia, History Vault, Anime Network, and Eros Now, Bollywood-focused service.
