The Golden Globe Awards have been sold, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which gives out the Globes, has shut down. Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries, owned by Todd Boehly, have agreed to buy the Golden Globes. The price was not shared. 

The Golden Globes salute the best in film and television. 

The HFPA was ridiculed for its lack of diversity in a series of stories in the L.A. Times, which reported that the association did not have a single Black member. As a result, NBC cancelled the 2022 Golden Globe Awards telecast. 

The event happened this year, in January, with The Fabelmans winning top drama film and The Banshees of Inisherin getting top comedy film. On the TV side, House of the Dragon won best drama and Abbott Elementary won best comedy.

Jerrod Carmichael hosted the 2023 event.

Dick Clark Productions produces the Golden Globes. Penske Media owns Dick Clark Productions. 

Members of the HFPA will become employees of a for-profit outfit that has not yet received a name. There are fewer than 100 members, reported the New York Times. 

The Golden Globe Foundation will handle the HFPA’s philanthropic endeavors. 

The 81st Golden Globe Awards is scheduled for January 7, 2024. 

Amy Thurlow, president of dick clark productions, is exiting the company at the end of June, parent company MRC Live & Alternative confirmed Tuesday.

Thurlow was tapped as president of dcp in 2019 after serving as COO and CFO.

"Over the last 7 years, I am most proud of the team that I have had the privilege of working with and building," said Thurlow in a memo to colleagues. "Each of you is a trusted and remarkable colleague. I am in awe of your accomplishments, and I have every expectation that dcp and DHG will continue to flourish."

Though Thurlow did not specifically say what she was up to next, she did say "it felt like the right time" to leave.

"Amy leaves behind an admirable seven year record; her tenure launched a consistent period of financial growth at dcp," said MRC founders and co-CEOs Mordecai “Modi” Wiczyk and Asif Satchu in a memo to colleagues. "Most recently, she led the team through the hardest year for live television since its creation."

Thurlow had previous stints at TV Guide Network, NBCUniversal and General Electric.

Wiczyk and Satchu in the memo said a search for a new leader has already begun.

dcp produces live event programming for specials such as the Academy of Country Music Awards, the Billboard Music Awards, the Golden Globe Awards, and Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

dick clark productions brought in two senior advertising sales executives to fill new positions at the company, with Chris Czarkowski named chief revenue officer and Robert Foothorap becoming senior VP of sponsorship.

Czarkowski, most recently a senior VP for client relationships at NBCUniversal, will be responsible for the company’s revenue, including a new sponsorship sales function, business development and international sales and distribution.

Czarkowski reports to dcp president Amy Thurlow.

Foothorap, most recently director, media network sales, at ViacomCBS’s BET Networks, will oversee the sponsorship and integrated marketing teams and work with the company’s programming, development, production, marketing, communications and business affairs teams.

Foothorap will report to Czarkowski.

“I’m excited to welcome Chris and Robert, who bring a wealth of experience and incredible client relationships, to dcp as we look to build upon our best-in-class opportunities for partners with our dynamic slate of live event programming,” said  Thurlow.

dcp, a division of MRC, produces the largest portfolio of live televised entertainment events, including the American Music Awards, the Golden Globe Awards and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

Amanda Powers was named chief operating officer at dick clark productions.

Powers, who had been VP of strategy at Valence Media, dcp’s parent company, succeeds Amy Thurlow, who held the COO post before being promoted to president last year.

Powers will manage, assess and provide strategic director for dcp and oversee international distribution, business development and licensing teams, as well as its Direct Holdings Group.

“Having had the pleasure of working with Amanda over the course of the past two years in her capacity at Valence Media, I have seen first-hand her leadership, remarkable insights, and strategic counsel and I am so excited to welcome her to the executive team at dcp,” said Thurlow, to whom Powers will report.

Before joining Valence, Powers was VP of corporate development and strategy at MRC Studios. 

Amy Thurlow was named president of dick clark productions, parent company Valence Media said Wednesday.

Thurlow, who had been COO and CFO, will report to CEO Mike Mahan, who will become vice chairman in the second quarter of 2020. At that point, Thurlow will take over leadership of dick clark productions.

She is also surrounded by an incredible group of leaders and colleagues who we have the utmost confidence in” said Valence Media Co-CEO’s Modi Wiczyk and Asif Satchu. “We are thankful to Mike, whose leadership and creativity helped drive record growth at dcp during his tenure. Luckily, we’ll continue to work closely together and we look forward to supporting his next adventure.”

Valence said that under Mahan and Thurlow, dcp generated six consecutive years of record earnings and record revenues.

Before joining dcp, Thurlow was CFO and executive VP for sales strategy at TV Guide Network. Before that she was with NBCUniversal. She began her career at General Electric.

“I am so thrilled to step into this role and lead such an incredible and dedicated team as we continue to produce best-in-class live entertainment,” said Thurlow. “I am indebted to Mike for his leadership, mentorship and friendship. While he will be greatly missed, we are happy that he will remain part of our dcp family in the Vice Chairman role.”

Mahan had been president of TV Guide Network before joining dcp. He began his career as an investment banker and worked at a couple of dotcoms before getting into TV.

“I am excited to pass the reins to Amy, who I have had the privilege of working with for more than 10 years, as I know she will successfully steer the company to new heights well into the next decade,” Mahan said.

Dick Clark Productions and The Miss America Organization plan to join for the 2015 Miss America Competition, regarding creative, marketing, sponsorship, licensing ticketing and distribution for the show.

“Dick Clark productions is the leader in live event television and we look forward to growing the show’s legacy and elevating the Miss America Competition for current and new generations of television viewers,” said Sam Haskell, Chairman and CEO, Miss America Organization.

The Miss America Competition was created to award scholarships for college and graduate school, as well as create a sense of community service through the national network it supports. The organization made $45 million in scholarships last year.
