Disney Channel has released a teaser video trailer for its upcoming special Descendants: The Royal Wedding, set to debut Aug. 13. 

The animated special will feature the voices of most of the cast from the first three Descendants live-action films, including Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, BooBoo Stewart, Mitchell Hope, China Anne McClain and Cheyenne Jackson. As per Disney, the special follows Mal and King Ben’s wedding as happily-ever-after continues for Auradon’s power couple, but Hades threatens to ruin it all.

Actor Cameron Boyce, co-star of Disney Channel’s movie franchise Descendants, died Saturday night, according to published reports.

Boyce, 20, died in his sleep due to an ongoing medical condition, according to ABC News. Boyce starred in Disney Channel’s original series Jessie, as well as the network’s Descendants movie franchise, including Descendants 3, which is set to air in August. 

Boyce had also appeared in such films as Mirrors,Grown Ups and Eagle Eye.

Boyce was also slated to appear in the HBO series Mrs. Fletcher, opposite Kathryn Hahn, as well as the independent feature film Runt.

A Disney Channel spokesperson said in a statement: "From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples' lives through his humanitarian work. He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend. We offer our deepest condolences to his family, castmates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed."

The July 21 premiere of Disney Channel’s Descendants 2 original movie will be simulcast across five networks, Disney announced Tuesday.

The movie, a sequel to the network’s 2015 Descendants film, will also appear on each network's branded digital and on demand platforms, according to network officials. The networks are: Disney Channel, ABC, Freeform, Disney XD and Lifetime.

The original Descendants, which follows the exploits of the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains, generated 12.2 million viewers -- the fifth most watched movie in cable TV history. Descendants stars Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Sofia Carson and Booboo Stewart will reprise their lead roles in the sequel, with newcomers China Anne McClain, Thomas Doherty and Dylan Playfair joining the cast for the sequel.

"The passion that fans – across every demographic and geographic landscape – have demonstrated for Descendants rivals anything we've seen since High School Musical, said Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer for Disney Channel Worldwide in a statement. “Sharing the new sequel movie across our far-reaching portfolio of TV networks and digital platforms is something only Disney can do – and we do it proudly."

Disney has greenlit a sequel to its successful 2015 original movie Descendants, the network said Friday.

The movie, which drew 6.6 million viewers in its July 2015 premiere, will bring back the original movie’s stars for the sequel, including Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson, and Mitchell Hope. The network will also add China Anne McClain (A.N.T. Farm) to the sequel in the role of Uma, the daughter of Ursula from The Little Mermaid, said network officials.

Emmy Award-winning director Kenny Ortega (Descendants, High School Musical franchise) will return as director, executive producer and choreographer, said the network.

Disney will develop a sequel to its successful original movie Descendants, the network said Thursday.

The movie, which starred Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie) and Cameron Boyce (Jessie), delivered more than 12.2 million viewers in its July 31 premiere (Nielsen (Live+7 ratings) to become its fifth highest-rated movie of all time.

Descendants screenwriters Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon will serve as executive producers on the Descendants 2 project, according to Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide.

"By almost every measure – domestically and globally – Descendants has already become one of the biggest entertainment properties of the year, and we're eager to delve deeper into the unfolding mythology of Auradon and Isle of the Lost,” Marsh said. “This kind of compelling, innovative storytelling, alongside our animated Descendants: Wicked World shorts and unique transmedia campaign, continues to lay the groundwork for multiple franchise opportunities across virtually every line of business at The Walt Disney Company."

The July 31 premiere of Disney Channel’s Descendants movie reached 12.2 million viewers with Live +7 ratings, making it the fifth most watched cable original movie ever.

The original movie doubled its 6.6 million live + same day total viewership numbers when DVR and on demand viewership is factored in, according to Disney. The movie’s Live +7 numbers also doubled its delivery among in key kids demos, and nearly doubled its delivery among Tweens 9-14, said network officials.

Descendants is now the fifth most-watched original cable movie of all time and gives Disney six of the top seven most watched cable films ever, joining High School Musical 2, Teen Beach Movie, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, Descendants, Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension and Camp Rock.

Descendants also stands as the most watched cable TV movie in nearly three years among Adults 18-49 (3 million), behind only Lifetime's Steel Magnolias remake on October 2012 (3.428 million).

Disney will look to capitalize on the success of its original movie Descendants with the Sept. 18 launch of an animated short-form series Descendants Wicked World on the network and its digital platforms, the network said Wednesday.

The short-form series will pick up after the final scene of the movie and will feature the voices of the movie’s stars including Dove Cameron as Mal, Sofia Carson as Evie, Cameron Boyce as Carlos, Booboo Stewart as Jay, Mitchell Hope as Ben, Brenna D'Amico as Jane, Sarah Jeffery as Audrey and Dianne Doan as Lonnie, said network officials.

The short-form series will feature four original songs that were released as bonus tracks on the Descendants soundtrack, inlcuding tunes performed by Sofia Carson, China Anne McClain and Felicia Barton.

Descendants Wicked World follows the ratings success of Descendants, which averaged 10.5 million total viewers (L+3) for its July 31 telecast, making it the most watched original movie on cable in 2015. 

Disney Channel rode its original movie Descendants to a first place primetime ratings finish among cable networks last week, according to Nielsen.

The kids-targeted network averaged 2.2 million viewers during the week of July 27 to Aug. 2 to best TNT, which finished in second with 1.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

Fox News took the third slot with 1.6 million viewers, followed by a tie between USA Network and TBS, each with 1.5 million viewers.

HGTV and History (1.4 million viewers); Discovery (1.3 million); and Food Network, Adult  Swim and FX (1 million) rounded out the top most watched networks for the week.

Disney was also the most watched cable network on a 24-hour basis last week, besting fellow kids/young adult-targeted networks Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Adult Swim.

TBS was the top network of choice for adult 18-49 viewers as well as female viewers 18-49 and 25-54 for the week, Nielsen said.

Disney Channel’s original movie Descendants was magical from a ratings perspective, delivering 6.6 million viewers during its Friday night premiere, said network officials.

The film, which stars Dove Cameron (Liz & Maddie), ranks as the top cable TV movie of the year in total viewers and the top cable TV telecasts among kids ages 2-11 (3 million) and tweens ages 9-14 (2.3 million), said the network. (MCN Content review: Descendants.)

Along with Teen Beach 2, Disney Channel now has the top two most watched cable TV telecast in two years among those targeted youth demographics.

The premiere audience for Descendants is in addition to the 1.4 million views the movie generated on the WATCH Disney Chanel since its launch on the app July 24.

Disney Channel’s original movie Descendants jumped out to a fast start with over 1 million views from the WATCH Disney channel app over the past five days, the network said Thursday.

The movie, which premieres on Disney Channel tomorrow night (July 31), launched earlier this week on WATCH Disney Channel, which can be accessed on desktop, smartphone, tablet and connected TV devices, said network officials.

Descendants stars Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce, Booboo Stewart and Sofia Carson as the teenage sons and daughters of Disney's most infamous villains. 

Disney Channel Sunday released a new trailer for its big summer original movie Descendants.

The live action film is a modern day fairytale that brings to life teenage descendants of re-imagined Disney villain, including Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil and Jafar.

Director/choreographer Kenny Ortega serves as the executive producer for the film, which will debut on the Disney Channel this summer followed by Disney Channels around the world, according to network officials.
