Over the years, Koken has also served as play-by-play man and analyst for the service.

The telecast will also include special guests and features commemorating his tenure, which began with the network’s first full season of Capitals coverage, 1984-85. The Capitals will also acknowledge Koken to fans in the arena during the game.

Koken, who along with Washington Wizards analyst Phil Chenier is CSN’s longest-serving on-air talent, will spend the first period of the game as analyst, his position for six seasons from 1984-85 to 1989-90. During the second period, Koken will serve as the play-by-play announcer for Capitals-Flyers, a role he held during the 1995-96 season. During the third stanza, Koken will return to his current position as in-game reporter and after the contest host Capitals Postgame Live.

His Capitals’ connections aside, Koken also contributes to CSN Mid-Atlantic's college basketball coverage as a play-by-play announcer and regularly appears on its news and entertainment shows. He previously served as play-by-play announcer and reporter for Washington Wizards coverage and contributed to Baltimore Orioles telecasts.

Koken has followed the Capitals since the team’s inaugural campaign in 1974-75, when he was a sports reporter for United Press International. He also previously covered the team as a sports anchor and reporter for WTTG-TV and WUSA-TV and as a radio host for WTEM-AM and WTOP-FM.
