Showtime has picked up an extended third season of docuseries Couples Therapy. The season will premiere in 2022 and will be split into two parts. Couples Therapy offers a look at psychologist Dr. Orna Guralnik and the couples that visit her for therapy. 

Josh Kriegman, Elyse Steinberg and Eli Despres created the show, which “unlocks the hidden world of other people’s relationships by bringing viewers into the visceral experience of real-life therapy sessions,” according to Showtime. “Dr. Guralnik deftly guides couples through honest confrontation, revealing the struggles – and extraordinary breakthroughs – typically unseen by anyone outside the room.”

Season two wrapped last month. 

“I believe what draws people to Couples Therapy are the raw, transformative journeys couples go through in treatment and the chance to witness the fascinating ways the unconscious reveals itself, all usually hidden behind closed doors,” said Dr. Guralnik. “Every session underscores the extraordinary human capacity to work through the most challenging problems through empathy and love.”

Couples Therapy is produced by Edgeline Films. Kriegman, Steinberg and Despres are the executive producers.  

“We are in awe of the bravery of these couples and deeply grateful for the continued opportunity to capture and share their struggles with the world,” said the creators. “The therapeutic work is not just gripping — it is also a profound reminder of the power of reconciliation and the worthiness of striving to better love one another.”

Showtime will stream more than 50 hours of LGBTQ+-themed  original programming in June as part of its celebration of Pride Month.

The shows, including select seasons of The L Word, Queer as Folk and Couples Therapy will be offered to consumers for free across multiple Showtime partner platforms, according to network officials. 

In addition, the network-- in associations with the Human Rights Campaign -- will expand collaboration on the Queer to Stay initiative supporting and preserving businesses that serve the LGBTQ+ community with a focus on LGBTQ+ people of color, women and the transgender community, said the network.

The full list of free Showtime programming includes the first seasons of The L Word, The L Word: Generation Q, Queer as Folk, Work in Progress, and Couples Therapy. Also included are select episodes of Desus & Mero, as well as Same Sex America, Beyond Opposite Sex, L Word Mississippi: Hate the Sin and Semper Fi.

Showtime has set a March 28 date for the return of crime drama series City On A Hill and an April 18 premiere date for the second season of Couples Therapy.

City On a Hill will return for its sophomore campaign with stars Kevin Bacon, reprising his role irreverent FBI agent Jackie Rohr, and Aldis Hodge -- portraying assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward. The two will continue to butt heads in the second season, which centers on a federal housing project in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, said the network. 

Couples Therapy returns for its second season with Dr. Orna Guralnik continuing to serve as a therapist to struggling couples. The nine-episode season will provide viewers with an authentic and visceral look at her weekly therapy sessions. 

Showtime will air back to back episodes of Couple's Therapy leading up to the finale on May 16, said the network.

Streaming networks Hulu and Netflix lead what is a limited rollout of new, scripted shows premiering from Sept. 3 to Sept. 8.

Hulu’s Sept. 4 premiere of Wu-Tang: An American Saga (pictured) follows the origins of the legendary rap group Wu-Tang Clan, according to the service.

Netflix on Sept. 6 will debut The Spy, starring Sacha Baron Cohen as former Mossad agent Eli Cohen, who successfully goes undercover in Syria in the early 1960s, said Netflix.
