Fox Business Network premieres its “FBN Prime” slate Monday, April 24. Cops joins the lineup, airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET. 

“We are thrilled to debut the fourth season of ‘FBN Prime,’” said Lauren Petterson, Fox Business president. “The lineup once again features touching and inspiring stories that showcase the individuals that make this country so special.”

Starting that Monday, Stuart Varney’s American Built begins season four at 9 p.m., with another episode at 9:30 p.m. The Pebble Beach golf course, the Stinger Missile and Mars Rover will be among those getting their close-up this season. 

On Tuesdays, Danielle Trotta hosts My Dream Car in the 9 p.m. slot. Season two sees the show detail the history of American automobiles and the journey of families finding, buying and resurrecting the car their parents once owned. 

Wednesdays have Mansion Global at 9 and 9:30. Katrina Campins looks at the most lavish real estate listings. 

Thursdays feature Cops, which streamer Fox Nation began airing in fall 2021. The show premiered on Fox in 1989 and shows real-life police officers doing their jobs, including marking arrests. 

Spike TV picked up Cops in 2013 after its long run on Fox. Spike became Paramount Network and Cops continued airing on the channel, until Paramount cancelled the show in 2020, amidst the protests following George Floyd’s death at the hands of law enforcement. 

“The program shines a light on the many women and men in law enforcement and conveys the unpredictable situations and interesting people they face daily to keep Americans safe,” Fox Business said. 

Law&Crime Network will stream episodes from the Cops Reloaded reality series as it continues to build content for its YouTube channel.

The show, which features memorable suspects, car chases and action-packed moments from the Cops reality series, will be available to stream across Law&Crime's platforms and clips from all 158 episodes will be available on the network's YouTube channel.

Law&Crime's acquisition of the Langley Productions-produced show comes on the heels of its acquisition of Langley's crime reality series Jail, currently airing on Law&Crime’s YouTube Channel.

“Cops Reloaded is the perfect addition to our content library,” Law&Crime president Rachel Stockman said in a statement. “We have a robust and rapidly growing fan base that's highly interested in content surrounding law enforcement so we are eager to continue to deliver them more of what they want to see.”

Cops Reloaded will continue to air on Reelz Channel alongside that network’s live series On Patrol Live. 

Reelz hopes this summer’s launch of On Patrol: Live, from the producers of the former A&E series Live PD, will help lure new viewers to the independently-owned cable network.

The series, which will follow police officers on patrol in real time, will provide the 15-year-old Reelz network with important and appealing live programming on Friday and Saturday nights, CEO Stan E. Hubbard said. On Patrol: Live comes two years after A&E canceled its ratings-strong Live PD in the wake of protests against the police after the murder of George Floyd.

Former Live PD host Dan Abrams will serve as host and executive producer for On Patrol: Live. Reelz has yet to set a specific premiere date for the series, which will join other police-themed series such as Cops and Cops Reloaded on the 40 million-subscriber service.

Hubbard recently spoke to Multichannel News about the strategy behind creating On Patrol: Live, as well as the value of live programming for linear cable networks in a crowded multiplatform television industry. An edited version of the discussion follows.  

MCN: Why do you feel a live law-enforcement show fits well with the Reelz brand?

 Stan Hubbard: Our brand has evolved like all brands, but we are about real people, real stories and real celebrities. Some of our top shows like Autopsy: The Last Hours of …, where we dig into the last hours of a celebrity's life, do really well for us. So bringing in some law enforcement programming is a natural fit. When Live PD, Cops and all programs like it were dropped a couple years ago by most of the networks, it opened up some different opportunities. For the last year or so we've had Cops and Cops Reloaded on Reelz. We've more recently added Jail to the mix; that fits nicely in our brand. Based on the success of those programs we're a top-10 growth network. Then, when you get viewers coming for those things, they stay to watch our other programs that still define who we are. I think On Patrol: Live is a perfect fit for what we're doing and for us it's perfect programming in today's environment where live is what keeps viewers from drifting off to streaming and other platforms on a regular basis.

MCN: Why do you think the time is right now to bring a live law-enforcement show back to TV, and are you concerned about receiving any backlash? 

SH: When we brought Cops, Cops Reloaded and Jail to the network, we didn’t receive any backlash. What we heard from viewers were thank yous for bringing this back and not being afraid of it. We’re in 2022 and we as a country are divided politically, socially and culturally in so many ways. I hope at some point we get over that, but there are going to be some voices that say, what you are doing isn’t right, and there are going to be voices that say thanks for bringing it back and helping me find your channel. I think we’re a responsible network and a responsible company, and we do what we think is right. We did other things that people told us we shouldn’t have done and it worked out just fine. We picked up the Miss USA Pageant [in 2015 after NBC dropped the Donald Trump co-owned pageant] when it needed a home 11 days before it was going to air. We picked up the [A&E-dropped] Kennedys series [in 2011] when everybody said it was too hot to touch, but once it aired it wasn’t a really big deal and it was a really good program. 

MCN: What will viewers see with On Patrol: Live? 

SH: With the show, the viewer gets to participate in being with those officers as they are doing their job, given what policing has become in 2022. We're going to get out there and show it, and it’s going to be transparent. We're adding some interesting elements to the show with some viewer ride alongs and responses. It’s not gonna be a woke program — we're not trying to bow to anybody. This is going to be a real live look at the state of policing in 2022 and beyond.

MCN: Do you see an opportunity to extend the Reelz brand beyond linear TV? 

SH: We’re streaming now. You can go to Samsung TV and other distributors and get our app, but it’s not the live network. As an independent, we can’t risk trying to go around our distributors. If we were one of the big six programming companies, we could do it. As an independent, Reelz is trapped in linear TV. We know what helps distributors keep their linear subscribers and keep viewership on their system instead of going off to streaming is live TV. We’re not going to compete for NFL football or pro hockey, but we are bringing six hours of really-high-profile live TV every week to those systems, and I think it's going to help subscribership. It’s going to give people a reason to stick around on their cable, satellite and telco systems. I'm hopeful that we're gonna find some more distributors who want to melt down some of the tiers they have us on or others that don't carry us. We’re probably punching above our weight for an independent, but we’re going to do it. ￭

On-demand streaming service Fox Nation is launching a new limited series, Cops: All Access with Geraldo, featuring the newly re-upped Geraldo Rivera.

Rivera recently signed a new multiyear contract to serve as correspondent-at-large.

In concert with the relaunch of the former Fox broadcast show, Cops, on Fox Nation, the streaming service will feature four episodes with Rivera recapping the first four episodes with the show’s executive producer, Morgan Langley, whose father, John, created the original series.

Rivera helped launch the original show over 30 years ago.

The first episode will be Oct. 1, with the other three made available on successive Fridays through the end of October.

Cops, one of the police-themed shows that disappeared from television amid concern over police violence last year, will be making a comeback on Oct. 1 with a new season set to appear on Fox Nation, Fox News’s subscription streaming service.

Fox News said it will be offering first responders a free one-year subscription to Fox Nation in conjunction with the relaunch of Cops.

Fox Nation also said it will be donating $5 per new subscriber, up to a maximum of $50,000, to Answer the Call, a non-profit organization that provides financial support to New York City first responders killed in the line of duty.

In addition to Cops starting its 33rd season, Fox Nation will be starting up a slate of first-responder themed programming, starting Monday.

Shows include 911: On Scene, which follows firefighters, EMTs and paramedics; When Seconds Count, featuring dramatic rescues caught on tape anchored by Harris Faulkner; Protect and Serve, looking at good deeds police perform, hosted by Ted Williams, a former homicide detective and a Fox News contributor; and Answer the Call, which looks at the children of first responders who died in the line of duty and how they were helped by the non-profit. 

Fox Nation costs $5.99 a month or $64.99 annually.

After a 30-season run that took the show headlong into the era of the George Floyd murder investigation, ViacomCBS canceled reality show Cops on pay TV’s Paramount Network. 

A rep for the media conglomerate’s free-to-consumer, ad-supported streaming platform Pluto TV, however, told Next TV, "At this time, the channel remains active" on the service.

The statement comes after The Information reported today that ViacomCBS are petitioning the conglomerate to take down conservative digital news channel TheFirst unless the outlet cancels a new show featuring former Fox News luminary Bill O'Reilly, which just debuted June 2. 

Watcha Gonna Do?

As for rerun episodes of Cops, they're also watchable on WGN America. But Nexstar, which owns the cable network, told The Hollywood Reporter that its licensing rights for the show expire at the end of June and it has no plans to renew it.

A 33rd season of Cops was set to debut on Paramount Network Monday. But the channel stopped running the show on June 1, according to THR.

Cops has achieved a venerable TV run showcasing real video footage of arrests and other police interventions, with African-American citizenry very often at the center. 

With this dynamic, it’s probably no surprise to many that the show has drawn renewed focus amid the global Black Lives Matter protest. 

“Crime shows like #Cops have a huge influence over the way the public thinks about criminal justice and by misrepresenting this system, these shows turn people against overdue reform efforts,” the civil rights advocacy group Color of Change tweeted after ViacomCBS’s cancellation announcement Tuesday.

Notably, producers and distributors of knockoff reality shows have also pulled the plug on their shows. A&E has stopped running episodes of Live PD, and Investigation Discovery has cut Body Cam from its schedule. 

Update: A&E confirmed that it is canceling Live PD. 

Paramount Network began running new episodes of Cops in 2013 after the reality show was canceled by Fox. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television and was launched amid the crack cocaine epidemic of the late 1980s. 

As for O'Reilly's show, the ViacomCBS petitioners say, the host has “a well-documented history of making racist comments, denying the existence of systemic racism, undermining the efforts of black protesters and insulting black public figures.”

Continuing protests across the country sparked by the Memorial Day killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis while in police custody has spawned the creation of several cable network specials and a reassessment of some shows currently on cable and streaming service lineups.

Tonight (June 10), Discovery Network channels will air the second of a two-part special Where Do We Go From Here? A Conversation Led By Oprah, featuring Oprah Winfrey as she speaks directly with a large range of African-American thought leaders, activists and artists including writer/director Ava DuVernay, actor David Oyelowo and politician/activist Stacey Abrams about systematic racism and the current state of America, according to Discovery.

“I don’t recall a moment quite like this one, because we find our nation on a precipice and true tipping point,” Winfrey said during the opening of yesterday’s episode, which was simulcast across 18 Discovery Inc.-owned networks. “Is this the moment that will finally change the country, where people recognize systemic racism for the problem and evil that it is?”

The two-day special follows on the heels of A&E’s June 8 special, The Time is Now: Race and Resolution, which aired commercial free across A+E Networks-owned A&E, History, VICE TV, Lifetime, FYI and LMN, and generated a spirited discussion surrounding systemic racism, implicit bias, economic inequality, and cases of police brutality.

Law&Crime Network last Thursday launched two daily shows -- Justice & Peace and Keeping the Peace that cover issues from the perspective of protesters and law enforcement officers respectively, according to the network.

Meanwhile, BET is planning a June 19 Presidential Forum in which both President Donald Trump and Presumptive Democratic Presidential Nominee Joe Biden have been invited to face Black America for the first time on national television to address their concerns. BET said both parties have been contacted but would not reveal if either has accepted.

Along with the content additions, some networks have also pulled shows in response to protests over Floyd’s death. Paramount Network has reportedly cancelled the reality series Cops after a more than three-decade run amid growing calls for law enforcement reform across the country.

In addition, A&E Wednesday cancelled its popular and most watched series Live P.D. -- which follows the actions of law enforcement officials in as many as eight cities. The network said in a statement: “This is a critical time in our nation’s history and we have made the decision to cease production on Live PD. Going forward, we will determine if there is a clear pathway to tell the stories of both the community and the police officers whose role it is to serve them. And with that, we will be meeting with community and civil rights leaders as well as police departments.”

Upstart streaming service HBO Max Tuesday reportedly removed the classic 1939 film Gone With The Wind after an Los Angeles Times op-ed piece by 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley criticized the Academy Award-winning film -- which takes place on an Atlanta plantation -- as one that “glorifies the antebellum south.”

Undoubtedly additional programming will be created -- and some existing content will be examined and scrutinized --as the industry and the country come to grips with continuing reaction to George Floyd’s death at the hands of police, while attempting to outline a path forward toward finding a resolution to the issues and injustices raised in its aftermath. 

With a one-hour episode featuring 7-year COPS veteran’s best work, Langley Productions and Spike TV will commemorate audio technician, Bryce Dion on September 20 at 8 p.m.

“Bryce had a passion for life and his work, and was always the first one to help anyone in need. He will best be remembered for a smile that never faded. All of us who knew him or worked with him on “COPS”, as well as the many friends he made working on documentaries and other shows, mourn his passing,” said Morgan and John Langley, Executive Producers of “COPS.”

Dion was killed during production in Omaha, NE on August 26th, and the show will remember him by going through struggles law enforcement faces on a regular basis.
