HBO has renewed its comedy series The Righteous Gemstones for a fourth season as the Danny McBride-created series wraps up its third season. 

The series, which follows the exploits of a famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work, concludes its third season Sunday (July 30). The season is on track to set a viewership high for the series, with episodes this far averaging nearly 5 million viewers, according to HBO. The Righteous Gemstones's audience numbers currently surpass those of McBride’s previous HBO series Eastbound and Down (4.2 million viewers) and Vice Principals (4.8 million), according to the network. 

“Get ready for more of the hilarious adrenaline ride that is The Righteous Gemstones,” HBO and Max Comedy Series head and executive VP of HBO programming Amy Gravitt said in a statement. “As this truly biblical season comes to a close on Sunday night, I am delighted to announce that we are picking up a fourth season.” 

The Righteous Gemstones stars McBride, Adam Devine, John Goodman, Edi Patterson, Cassidy Freeman, Tim Baltz, and Tony Cavalero. The series is executive produced by McBride, Jody Hill, David Bordon Green, John Carcieri, Jeff Fradley and Brandon James.

HBO’s Emmy-winning A Black Lady Sketch Show will not return for season five as  the network and series creator Robin Thede have agreed to end the comedy series. 

The series, which starred Thede along with Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black and Skye Townsend, ended its fourth season this past May. The series featured a core cast of black women living relatable, funny experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations, according to HBO.

“Robin Thede is a visionary comedic talent, and for four exceptional seasons of A Black Lady Sketch Show we’ve been thrilled to partner with her on this groundbreaking, hilarious series,” HBO said in a statement. “Robin, alongside [series producers] Hooray, Jax Media, and the incredible cast and crew, leave an indelible legacy not only in sketch, but in television comedy, and we look forward to continued creative collaboration under her deal with us.” 

During its run the show was nominated for 13 Emmy Awards and won three, including 2022 Emmys for Outstanding Picture Editing for a Variety Programming and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series. 

Along with Thede, Issa Rae, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch served as executive producers for the series.

I especially want to recognize the Black women and other women of color who excelled in every department at ABLSS. Comedian Mike Myers will star in a new Netflix limited comedy series, the streaming service said Wednesday.

The as yet titled, six-episode series will feature the Shrek sand Austin Powers star playing multiple characters, according to Netflix. Myers will executive produce the series along with John Lyons and Jason Weinberg.

"I love creating characters, and Netflix has given me a fantastic playground to play in," said Myers in a statement.
