FX will debut the sixth and final season of its Emmy-nominated comedy series What We Do in the Shadows on October 21.

The series, which last week earned eight Primetime Emmy Award nominations, chronicles the nightly exploits of vampire roommates as they navigate the modern world of Staten Island, according to the network. FX will premiere the first three episodes of the 11-episode sixth season on October 21, said the network. 

The series stars Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Mark Proksch, Natasia Demetriou, Harvey Guillén and Kristen Schaal. According to FX, the sixth season finds characters Nandor (Novak), Nadja (Demetriou), Laszlo (Berry), Colin (Proksch) and Guillermo (Guillén) entering the workforce, visiting New Hampshire, going to a human dinner party, fêteing The Baron and conjuring a demon — all while trying to find their place and their purpose in this crazy, mixed-up world.

What We Do in the Shadows is executive produced by Paul Simms, Jemaine Clement, Sam Johnson, Sarah Naftalis, Yana Gorskaya, Kyle Newacheck, Taika Waititi, Garret Basch and Eli Bush.

BET Plus’ original dark comedy series Average Joe will return for a second season, the streaming service said Thursday.

The series stars Deon Cole as a hard-working, blue-collar worker who, in the show’s first season, is on the run for his life after he discovers his recently deceased father stole millions of dollars from dangerous people just before he died. Cole will reprise his role as "Joe Washington" in the second season, according to BET Plus.

The series also starred Tammy Townsend, Malcolm Barrett, Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Michael Trucco and Ashley Olivia Fisher. 

Average Joe is executive produced by Robb Cullen, McG, Corey Marsh, Mary Viola, Deb Evans and Rose Catherine Pickney.

Peacock will bring back its Seth MacFarlane-produced comedy series Ted for a second season.

The streaming service said in a social media post that the show, which follows the exploits of a talking, foul-mouthed stuffed bear and his high school friend, will return for a sophomore campaign, although no premiere date was announced. The series is a prequel to the popular Ted movie franchise starring Mark Wahlberg. 

The first season, which debuted this past January, finished as Peacock's most-watched original series, according to Nielsen numbers provided by the streaming service. 

Starring in the series are MacFarlane as the voice of Ted, Max Burkholder, Alanna Ubach, Scott Grimes and Giorgia Whigham. 

Ted is executive-produced by MacFarlane, Paul Corrigan, Brad Walsh, Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, and Aimee Carlson. 

BET Plus will team with hip-hop artist/actor Chris "Ludacris" Bridges to develop a new, half-hour scripted dramedy.

The untitled series, inspired by Ludacris’ experience coming up in the competitive music scene in Atlanta, follows the misadventures of an ensemble who are willing to do anything and everything to bolster ratings at their hip-hop station, the streaming service said.

Ludacris will serve as executive producer of the series along with Larry Wilmore, Malcolm Lee, Noah Gardenswartz, Dominique Telson, Chaka Zulu, Jeff Dixon, Josh Cratman and David Blackman. 

The dramedy will add to BET Plus’ lineup of original scripted series, which includes The 2023 Emmy Award-nominated comedy The Ms. Pat Show, Kingdom Business, All The Queens Men, and The Family Business. 

ABC’s comedy series The Wonder Years debuts its second season July 14 after a hiatus of more than a year, but series stars Dulé Hill and Elisha ‘EJ’ Williams are confident the layoff has built momentum for its return. 

The series, a reimagining of ABC’s 1980s coming-of-age dramedy of the same name, follows the story of a middle-class Black family as told through the eyes of 12-year-old Dean.

Williams, who plays Dean, says the series’ second season will continue to build on the show’s successful first season, which ended in May 2022. The upcoming season will feature guest star appearances from Patti LaBelle, Tituss Burgess, Donald Faison and Wayne Brady.

“You’ll see a whole lot of characters trying to come into themselves more [in the second season],” Williams said. “It’s not like these aren’t normal situations – everybody can relate to what the characters are going through at some level.”

Hill believes that the more than one-year hiatus between the last episode of the season one to the launch of the second season will not hurt audience tune-in for the show. 

“My hope is that absence makes the heart grow fonder,” he said. “People have really appreciated and missed the show, so my hope is that during this summertime [period] The Wonder Years can come in and fill a void that is there and give people some entertaining television over the course of the next two weeks.”  

Starz will continue to follow the lives of three female friends from Harlem in the second season of its comedy series Run the World, debuting May 26.

The series’ eight-episode sophomore campaign stars Amber Stevens West, Bresha Webb and Corbin Reid as 30-something Black women trying to balance careers and relationships as they pursue their dreams of world domination, according to the network. The series also stars Stephen Bishop, Tosin Moronfunhola and Erika Alexander. 

Alexander, who starred in the 1990s Fox sitcom Living Single, said her character Barb — a successful editor and confidante to the younger women in the series — helps bridge the gap between generations on the show.

“I’m hanging out with [the girls] and having a generational conversation that I think is now evolving,” she said. “Barb has a lot to offer because she’s already arrived. [The show writers] are writing for people who want to have a longer conversation about not only relationships, but who you see yourself as.” 

In Run the World's second season, series executive producers Leigh Davenport, Yvette Lee Bowser and Rachelle Williams-BenAry continue to showcase the nuances of how women relate to one another on the road to success, according to Alexander. 

“They had a really wonderful intention to create a conversation between women about healthy relationships and what it means to have ambition and go for your career dreams — and also what it means when you don’t meet them,” she said. 

Starz will debut the second season of comedy series Minx July 21, seven months after the show was canceled by HBO Max.

The Lionsgate Television-produced series stars Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson as creators of the first erotic magazine for women. The second season finds the two grappling with Minx’s explosive success, which brings more money, fame and temptation than either of them know to handle, according to Starz.

Along with Lovibond and Johnson, the series also stars Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Oscar Montoya and Elizabeth Perkins. 

HBO Max canceled Minx in December 2022 while the second season was in production. Lionsgate-owned Starz picked up the series a month later.

HBO Max has renewed its Mindy Kaling-produced comedy series The Sex Lives of College Girls in advance of the show's season two finale.

The series chronicles the exploits of college roommates attending a prestigious New England college. The second season, which concludes December 15 with a two-episode finale, followed the students as they returned after their fall break to tackle the challenges thrown their way at the end of season one and to face a new semester filled with new faces, parties and predicaments, according to the network.

The second season of The Sex Lives of College Girls has been the most-watched HBO Max original series since launching this past November. Last week’s episode release day on the streaming service set a new record for the series by delivering an audience more than double that of the series launch in 2021, said the streaming service.

The Sex Lives of College Girls stars Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott. The series produced by Kaling, Justin Noble and Howard Klein.

HBO Max will return to school in November with the second season of its comedy series The Sex Lives of College Girls.

The 10-episode second season of the Mindy Kaling-created series will debut November 17 and will again chronicle the lives of four college roommates attending a prestigious New England college.

According to HBO Max, the girls will look to tackle the challenges thrown their way at the end of season one while facing the next semester filled with new faces, parties and predicaments, according to the streaming service.

The series stars Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott, as well as Mekki Leeper, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Lolo Spencer, Renika Williams and Mitchell Slaggert.

FX will debut the fourth and final season if its Emmy-winning comedy series Atlanta on September 4, according to a new series teaser trailer.

The series, which ended its third season this past May, reunites series stars Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, LaKeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz as they return home after spending most of season three in Europe.

According to FX, season four finds the four friends back in their hometown, "but the question is, has Atlanta changed or have they?"

Atlanta earned three 2022 Emmy Award nominations, including a Best Actor in a Comedy nod for Glover, who won a 2017 Emmy in the category.

Fx has renewed its comedy series Breeders for a fourth season on the heels on the show's third season finale, the network said Tuesday.

The comedy series stars Martin Freeman and Daisy Haggard, and takes a bitter-sweet look at the struggles of modern parenthood, according to the network. The series also stars Alex Eastwood, Stella Gonet, and Eve Prenelle. 

Breeders is executive produced by Simon Blackwell, Chris Addison, Martin Freeman, Richard Allen-Turner, Rob Aslett, David Martin, Jon Thoday, Toby Welch and Michael Wiggs.

AMC's dark comedy Kevin Can F**k Himself will debut its second and final season August 22, according to a new trailer released Monday.

The series' second season will continue to follow the exploits of a wife (Anne Murphy) who teams up with her neighbor (Mary Hollis Inboden) to kill the wife's self-centered husband (Eric Petersen).

According to AMC, at the end of season one the murder plot gets foiled by the husband's best friend (Alex Bonifer), forcing the women to come up with a new plan. 

Also starring in the series are Brian Howe, Raymond Lee,  Jamie Denbo and Candice Coke.

Kevin Can F**K Himself is executive produced by Valerie Armstrong, Rashida Jones,  Will McCormack, Craig DiGregorio, Sean Clements and Colin Walsh, according to AMC.

Showtime’s late-night talk show Desus & Mero will not return for a fifth season after the two hosts decided to go their separate ways, the network confirmed.

“Showtime’s late-night talk show Desus & Mero will not be returning for a fifth season,” a Showtime spokesman said. “Desus Nice and The Kid Mero will be pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward.”

The show’s final episode debuted June 25. The series debuted on Showtime in 2019 as the premium service’s first talk show, and over its four-season run the series featured interviews with numerous celebrities and politicians including Denzel Washington, President Barack Obama and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Comedian Phoebe Robinson portrays a successful but broke podcast star in the new trailer for Freeform's new comedy series Everything's Trash, premiering July 13.

The series follows a 30-something outspoken podcast star (Robinson) making her professional mark while living a broke and delightfully messy life in Brooklyn when she is forced to change her ways after her "perfect" older brother launches a political campaign, said the network.

The series also stars Jordan Carlos, Toccarra Cash, Nneka Okafor and Moses Storm. Robinson serves as executive producer alongside co-executive producers Jose Acevedo and Chioke Nassor. ■

HBO Max has greenlit a third season of its Emmy-winning original drama series Hacks, the network said Thursday.

The series, which stars Jean Smart as Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder as her young writer and protégé Ava, ended its second season earlier this month. The series’ first season garnered three Emmy Awards, including an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nod for Smart. 

Also starring in the series are Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Jane Adams, Christopher McDonald, Kaitlin Olson, Paul W. Downs, Poppy Liu, Rose Abdoo, Mark Indelicato, Meg Stalter, Angela E. Gibbs, Luenell, Johnny Sibilly, Joe Mande, Ally Maki and Lorenza Izzo.

Apple TV Plus Friday offered a first look trailer at its new comedy series Loot starring Maya Rudolph and premiering June 24.

The 10-episode series features Rudolph as billionaire Molly Novak, who struggles with life after discovering her husband of 20 years is cheating. After hitting rock bottom, she learns that she heads a charity foundation, which ultimately leads her to a journey of self-discovery, according to the streaming service.

Along with Rudolph, the series stars Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Ron Funches, Nat Faxon and Joel Kim Booster.

HBO has renewed its Emmy-winning comedy series A Black Lady Sketch Show for a fourth season.

The Robin Thede-created, comedy sketch show features a core cast of Black women living relatable and comedic experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations, according to HBO. Season three of the series concluded on May 13.

A Black Lady Sketch Show stars Robin Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black and Skye Townsend. The series is executive produced by Thede, Issa Rae, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch.

HBO Max will bring back its original comedy series Our Flag Means Death for a second season, the network said Wednesday.

The series, created by David Jenkins, finished its first season this past March as one of the streaming service’s top five original comedy series launches. The series is based on the exploits of an 18th century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet, played by Rhys Darby. Also starring in the series are Taika Waititi, Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry and Matt Maher.

"We are so happy to bring this truly one of a kind series back! We congratulate David, Taika, Rhys and the entire talented cast and crew, and thank the show’s fans for embracing it wholeheartedly," HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey said in a statement. 

Added Jenkins: "We felt the show was special while we were making it, but fans' open-armed embrace of the inhabitants of the Revenge makes heading into a second season all the more sweet."

HBO will bring back its Emmy-winning comedy series Barry for a fourth season, the network said Thursday.

The series, which is currently airing new, third-season episodes on HBO, will return for a fourth season with series star Bill Hader directing all eight episodes. The series will continue to follow the exploits of a contract killer looking to make a career change to become an actor.

Along with Hader, the series also stars Emmy winning actor Henry Winkler, Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Anthony Carrigan and Sarah Burns.

Barry is executive produced by Hader, Alex Berg, Aida Rodgers and Liz Sarnoff.

The eight-episode second season of the HBO Max series continues the evolution of the dark mentorship between Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Smart) and her young, entitled writer Ava (Einbinder) as the two travel across the country workshopping Deborah’s new stand-up act, the streaming service said.

HBO's new horror/comedy series about a reluctant mother and her cute but devilish baby will arrive on the premium service April 24, according to the network.  

The eight-episode The Baby series follows the life of a 38-year-old woman who is furious that her closest friends are all having babies, but gets her life turned upside down when she is unexpectedly landed with a baby of her own. The baby, who is controlling, manipulative, but incredibly cute, twists her life into a surreal horror show, according to HBO. 

The series stars Michelle De Swarte, Amira Ghazalla, Amber Grappy, Patrice Naiambana,  Sinéad Cusack, Shvorne Marks, Isy Suttie and Tanya Reynolds.

 Disney Plus Monday offered a first look trailer at its upcoming Cheaper By The Dozen reboot film, which debuts on the streaming service March 18.

The film, a reimagining of the 2003 film of the same name starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt, follows the exploits of a blended family of 12 as they navigate a hectic home life while simultaneously managing their family business, according to network officials.

Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff star in the movie, based on the novel by Frank Bunker Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. Executive producers for Cheaper By The Dozen include Kenya Barris, Shawn Levy, Union, Brian Dobbins and Donald J. Lee Jr.

HBO will bring back its comedy series Somebody Somewhere for a second season, the premium service announced Thursday.

The series, which launched in January and concludes Feb. 27, follows a group of midwestern outsiders who don’t fit in but seek to find their voice together, according to the network. The series stars Bridget Everett, Jeff Hiller, Mary Catherine Garrison, Danny McCarthy and Mike Hagerty.

Somebody Somewhere is executive produced by Everett, Hannah Bos, Paul Thureen, Carolyn Strauss, Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass, Mel Eslyn, Patricia Breen and Tyler Romary.

HBO has renewed its comedy series The Righteous Gemstones for a second season, the network said Tuesday.

The series, which debuted its second season on the premium service Jan. 9, follows the story of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work, said the network. The series stars Danny McBride, John Goodman, Edi Patterson and Adam Devine. 

“After a season of literal fire and brimstone, blood, sand, and rollerblading, who wouldn't come back for more?,” said Amy Gravitt, HBO Programming executive vice president in a statement. “The Gemstone family makes us laugh like nobody else.”

FX will bring back its Emmy-winning comedy series Atlanta in March after a three-year hiatus, the network said Wednesday.

The 10-episode third season, which stars Donald Glover, Brian Tyree Henry, LaKeith Stanfield and Zazie Beetz, premieres March 24 on FX and will stream the next day on Hulu, said network officials. Taking place almost entirely in Europe, season three finds “Earn” (Glover), “Alfred / ‘Paper Boi’” (Henry), “Darius” (Stanfield) and “Van” (Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigates their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to the newfound success they had aspired to, according to FX.  

Atlanta last aired on FX in 2018. The series executive is produced by Donald Glover, Stephen Glover, Hiro Murai, Stefani Robinson, Paul Simms and Dianne McGunigle.

Streaming service ALLBLK has greenlit a new comedy series that follows the exploits of a first-generation Haitian American young man struggling to overcome the challenges of building a successful career in Hollywood.

Send Help, created by actor Jean Elie along with writer Mike Gauyo, follows Fritz (Elie),   a young man hoping to achieve stardom in Los Angeles while fighting to conquer his feeling of imposter syndrome, the Hollywood community, his incredibly demanding Haitian family and a looming family tragedy, according to the service.  

“Elevating the diversity of content available on ALLBLK has been top of mind for us as we prepare for the next year ahead,” ALLBLK & WE tv general manager Brett Dismuke said in a statement.  “Send Help will introduce a new perspective to our programming library that we anticipate will reach audiences across genders, age groups, and cultures – while also addressing emotional situations with comedic relief.”

TBS has greenlit a new comedy series, Kill the Orange-Faced Bear, starring Damon Wayans Jr.

The comedy series follows one man’s epic revenge journey after a bear eats his girlfriend, said the network. Along with Wayans, the series stars Jessy Hodges, Alex Karpovksy and Nate Torrence. Also lending their voices to the series are Sarah Silverman, Nicole Byer and Sam Richardson. 

The series is executive produced by Wayans, Romanski, Trevor Engelson, Steven Fisher, Alex Karpovsky and Jake Szymanski.

“I’ve loved the idea for Kill the Orange-Faced Bear from the minute we heard the pitch and felt that it was a dead center shot at the target of popular absurdist humor we’ve become known for,” said Brett Weitz, General Manager, TNT, TBS, and truTV in a statement.  

The network also announced a fourth season renewal for its comedy series Miracle Workers, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi.

HBO Max will delve into the educational and intimate lives of college students in its new original series The Sex Lives of College Girls, debuting Nov. 18.

The series, created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble, follows the exploits of four college roommates -- equal parts lovable and infuriating -- as they arrive at a prestigious New England college, said the streaming service.

The Sex Lives of College Girls stars Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Reneé Rapp, and Alyah Chanelle Scott. Kaling, Noble and Howard Klein serve as executive producers of the 10-episode series. HBO Max will debut the first two episodes on Nov. 18, with three additional episodes premiering on Nov. 25 and Dec. 2. The final two episodes will premiere Dec. 9.

Peacock has renewed its talk show series The Amber Ruffin Show for a second season.

The Emmy-nominated series, which concludes its first season on Sept. 17, will return to Peacock for its sophomore campaign on Oct. 8 with weekly Friday episodes, said the streaming service. 

Ruffin, a writer and performer for NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers -- the first African American female to write for a late-night network talk show in the U.S. -- stars and serves as executive producer of the series along with Jenny Hagel, Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker.

"We are thrilled to keep doing what we love for another season," said Ruffin in a statement. "Margaritas for everyone!"

HBO Max will bring back its comedy anthology series Love Life for its second season, the streaming service said Tuesday.

Season two will start Oct. 28 and star William Jackson Harper as he comes out of a years-long relationship with woman he thought was going to be his person. After the rug is pulled out from under him, he is plunged back into the search for the romantic fulfillment that he thought he had already found, said the service. 

The series also stars Jessica Williams, Punkie Johnson and Chris Powell, with guest appearances from Maya Kazan, Ego Nwodim, Kimberly Elise, Blair Underwood, Janet Hubert, Jordan Rock and Steven Boyer.

HBO Max will launch the 10-episode second season with three episodes on Oct. 28 followed by three episodes on Nov. 4 and four episodes on Nov. 11.

Love Life is executive produced by Harper, Anna Kendrick, Paul Feig and Dan Magnante.

TBS will debut a new season of its comedy series The Last O.G. on Oct. 26, the network said Thursday.

Series star Tracy Morgan will return for the fourth season of the comedy series, joining Ryan Gaul, Taylor Mosby, Dante Hoagland, Anna Maria Horsford and Da’Vine Joy Randolph. Also, Janet Hubert (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), Malik Yoba (First Wives Club), Wood Harris (The Wire) and Gary Dourdan (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) will serve as guest stars, according to TBS. 

Season three of The Last O.G. reached 20 million viewers across TBS’ linear and digital platforms, according to the network.

The 10-episode fourth season of the series, executive produced by Morgan, Jordan Peele, Owen Smith, Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Joel Zadak, Mike Mariano and Steve Ast, will debut with back-to-back episodes, with an additional eight episodes to air weekly.

 BET Plus today (Aug. 12) will add a new comedy series to its lineup with the debut of The Ms. Pat Show.

The series, based on comedian Patricia “Ms. Pat” Williams’ stand-up comedy and memoir, follows the story of a former convicted felon turned suburban mom and stand-up comedian, who finds herself in conservative middle America, said the streaming service. 

Along for the ride are her penny-pinching husband, played by J. Bernard Calloway (City On A Hill), a struggle of a sister played by Tami Roman (The Family Business), and two distinct sets of kids played by Theodore Barnes (The Prince of Peoria), newcomer Briyana Guadalupe, Vince Swann (50 Central) and Brittany Inge (Boomerang), said the service.

The Ms. Pat Show is executive produced by Williams, Brian Grazer, Lee Daniels, Samie Kim Falvey, Anthony Hill and Jordan E. Cooper.

HBO’s freshman late-night talk show Pause with Sam Jay will return for a second season, the network announced Thursday.

The series, which debuted on HBO on May 21, features a “new take on the late-night talk show format and uses a fresh lens to plunge into the cultural issues that divide us,” according to the network. Pause with Sam Jay is executive produced by Sam Jay, Prentice Penny, Chris Pollack, Langston Kerman, Diane Fitzgerald, David Martin, Karen Baker, Michelle Caputo and Shannon Hartmann. 

“Pause is such a completely unique format, it’s the perfect platform for Sam’s keen social observations, her unfiltered, comedic point of view, and most of all, her insightful conversation and openness to different perspectives,” said Nina Rosenstein, executive vice president, HBO Programming in a statement. “We’re so happy to work with Sam and Prentice on a second season.”

Peacock has greenlit a second season of its original comedy series Rutherford Falls, the streaming service announced Thursday.

The series follows two lifelong best friends, Nathan Rutherford (Ed Helms) and Reagan Wells (Jana Schmieding), who find themselves at a crossroads when their sleepy town gets an unexpected wakeup call, said network officials. The first season of the series debuted on Peacock on April 22.

Rutherford Falls features one of the largest Indigenous writer’s rooms on television with five Native writers staffed on the series, including co-creator and executive producer Sierra Teller Ornelas (Navajo), Bobby Wilson (Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota), Tai Leclaire(Kanien’kehá:ka [Mohawk Nation]/Mi’kmaq), Jana Schmieding (Cheyenne River Lakota Sioux), and Tazbah Chavez (Bishop Paiute/Diné/San Carlos Apache), said Peacock.

 BET has picked up rights to the first season of the LeBron James-produced basketball comedy Survivor’s Remorse.

BET and BET Her will air the first season of the series -- which ran on Starz from 2014 to 2017 -- beginning April 21, according to the network. The series follows the life of basketball star Cam Calloway and his family after he signs a pro-basketball contract and moves his family to Atlanta.

Survivor’s Remorse stars Jessie T. Usher, RonReaco Lee, Erica Ash, Teyonah Parris, Tichina Arnold, and Mike Epps.

Comedian Phoebe Robinson launches her new Comedy Central late night series, Doing the Most With Phoebe Robinson on April 9 at 11 pm.

The 10-episode series stars Robinson as she creates adventures and experiences with celebrity guests that take the comedian out of her comfort zone and into their world, according to Comedy Central. Guest stars slated to appear in the series include Kevin Bacon, The Property Brothers, Tan France, Ashley Graham and Gabrielle Union.

Robinson in 2018 co-starred with fellow comedian Jessica Williams in an HBO sketch comedy series 2 Dope Queens, which was based on the duo’s podcast of the same name. In a 2018 video interview with Multichannel News, Robinson discusses the increasing opportunities for Black women onscreen as well as her comedic influences.

HBO will bring back its Emmy-nominated sketch comedy A Black Lady Sketch Show for its second season on April 23, the network said Tuesday.

Robin Thede, Gabrielle Dennis and Ashley Nicole Black will return to star in the narrative sketch series, which features a core cast of Black women living relatable, hilarious experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations, said the pay TV network.

A Black Lady Sketch Show, which received three 2020 Primetime Emmy nominations, is executive produced by Thede, Issa Rae, Dave Becky, Jonathan Berry, Tony Hernandez and Brooke Posch.

Showtime has ordered straight-to-series a new half-hour comedy series, Flatbush Misdemeanors.

The series, created by and starring Kevin Iso and Dan Perlman, follows the lives of characters struggling to thrive in their new surroundings in the Flatbush section of  Brooklyn, said network officials. 

Flatbush Misdemeanors is executive produced by Perlman and Iso, with Richard Allen-Turner, Jon Thoday, David Martin and Chloe Pisello.

“Flatbush Misdemeanors is a funny, audacious and inventive series that rips the artisanal sheen off of Brooklyn and mines comedy from the diverse, un-gentrified characters who live there,” said Gary Levine, Showtime president of Entertainment in a statement. “Kevin and Dan are multi-talented and have unique, authentic voices that we are thrilled to bring to Showtime audiences.” 

BET’s Wednesday night premiere of two original comedy series from prolific producer Tyler Perry drew a combined 4 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, which stars Na’im Lynn, J. Anthony Brown, David and Tamela Mann, averaged 1.1 million viewers in its two-episode premiere on BET and BET Her, said Nielsen.

The two-episode premiere of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne -- the first new episodes for the long-running comedy series since 2012 -- averaged 1 million viewers across the two networks, according to Nielsen. 

Including encore airings, House of Payne and Assisted Living drew a combined 6.6 million viewers Wednesday night, according to BET. 

BET will debut the second season of its comedy series Tyler Perry's Sistas next month, the network announced Wednesday.

The series will return for its sophomore season Oct. 14 with back-to-back new episodes on BET and BET her, said network officials. The series, which follows the lives of several African-American female friends, stars KJ Smith, Mignon, Ebony Obsidian, Novi Brown, DeVale Ellis and Chido Nwokocha.

The series is produced by Tyler Perry Studios.

TruTV has picked up a third season of its comedy series Tacoma FD, part of several programming announcements the network made Wednesday during WarnerMedia’s TCA virtual press tour event.

The series, which stars Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme, will return with a 13-episode third season, said the network. The show’s second season to date has reached some 11 million viewers, said truTV.

“We couldn’t be more proud of the work this team has achieved season after season” said Brett Weitz, general manager of TBS, TNT, and truTV in a statement. “With Tacoma FD’s fanbase continuing to grow, the show is a huge success story for us, and we can’t wait to see what kind of Station 24 shenanigans Kevin, Steve, and the incredible cast come up with next.”

The network also announced an expansion of its Impractical Jokers franchise across  WarnerMedia’s cable and streaming platforms.

Along with resuming production on season nine of the comedy series, the company has ordered a third season of TBS’s The Misery Index -- which features the stars of Impractical Jokers -- and has set a Sept. 1 date for the premiere of Impractical Jokers: The Movie on streaming service HBO Max.

“The Impractical Jokers franchise continues to deliver each and every time,” said Weitz. “The plan is continue to grow their business from an incredibly solid foundation and deliver to a passionate fanbase that’s second to none.”

AXS TV Saturday will air the live Comedy Gives Back Laugh Aid event, the network announced Thursday. 

The four-hour event, which will raise money and awareness for an emergency relief fund benefiting working comedians who have been financially impacted due to the spread of COVID-19, will feature such comedians as Dave Attell, Joel Kim Booster, Bill Burr, Patton Oswalt, Ray Romano, Iliza Shlesinger Bob Saget and David Spade.

YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Twitch will also stream the live event. 

“Now more than ever, the world could use a little levity,” said Sarah Weidman, head of original programming, development and multi-platform content for AXS TV said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for viewers across the country to sit back, relax, and let the country’s top comics entertain them with a night of laughs that we hope will provide some joy, while raising funds for an important cause. In addition to broadcasting the event, AXS TV is supporting Comedy Gives Back Laugh Aid, providing tech support and studio operations in collaboration with Laugh Lounge.

Quibi, the upcoming streaming service focused on mobile viewing, said its lineup will include a daily stand-up comedy show it calls Hot Off The Mic.

The series is being produced by Levity Live and taped live at comedy clubs around the country, starting with the Improv in Hollywood.

Episodes of Hot Off The Mic will be released five days a week and showcase established and emerging comedians and their takes on the latest headlines.

Executive producers of the show will be Stu Schreiberg, John Bravakis, Johnny Milord and Dicky Egan.

Levity Live has produced more than 400 long-form stand-up specials and series and owns and operators comedy clubs, including the Improve brand.

Quibi, launched by Jeff Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, has raised more than $1 billion to produce short form programming--Quibi stands for Quick Bites--that can be streamed by people on smart phones and other mobile gadgets.

BET+ has renewed its comedy series Bigger for a sophomore campaign, the streaming service said. 

The  series, which launched its first season on BET+ this past September, follows five close knit African-American friends as they navigate love, friendships, career ambitions, and the journey to getting "bigger" together, according to the streaming service. The series stars Rasheda Crockett, Chase Anthony, Tristen Winger, Tanisha Long, and Angell Conwell.

Bigger was created by Felischa Marye and is executive produced by Will Packer. 

“We are excited and proud to bring the Bigger squad back for another run.  Will and Felischa have been tremendous partners and we can’t wait to dive deeper into the hilarious and complicated lives of Layne and her group of friends,” said Devin Griffin, general manager, BET+ in a statement. “Our commitment to premium content continues with this series. Pop TV has released a teaser trailer for the final season of its Emmy-nominated comedy series Schitt's Creek.

The series, which stars Eugene Levy, Annie Murphy and Catherine O'Hara, will debut its sixth and final season on Jan. 7, according to Pop TV. 

The series received four 2019 Emmy Award nominations, including one for Best Comedy Series. 

IFC Thursday announced the fourth and final season of its baseball-themed comedy series Brockmire will debut in first quarter 2020.

The series, which stars Hank Azaria as a famed major league baseball announcer who looks to rebound after suffering a public breakdown due to his wife’s infidelity, will launch its final eight episodes in March, according to the network. Series co-stars Amanda Peet, Tyler Jackson Williams and Katie Finneran will return for the final season.

“From the beginning, Brockmire was conceived as a four-season story, and we are so proud to see it written and produced to its creative conclusion,” said IFC executive director Blake Callaway in a statement. “Blazers off to the amazing crew, our fantastic partners at Funny Or Die, and the incredible cast, especially the incomparable Hank Azaria, who lives, sleeps and breaths Jim Brockmire, as well as Amanda Peet who makes an indelible contribution to the show as Jules, and Tyrel Jackson-Williams who completely shines as Charles. TBS has renewed its comedy game show The Misery Index for a second season, the network said Tuesday.

The series, inspired by the card game Sh*t Happens, rewards contestants based on other people’s misfortunes, according to the network. The series reached nearly 28 million viewers across linear, VOD and digital platforms, according to TBS. 

The Misery Index host Jameela Jamil will return along with stars of truTV’s Impractical Jokers, comedy troupe The Tenderloins – Brian Quinn, James Murray, Joe Gatto and Sal Vulcano – as panelists, said the network.

"Jameela and The Tenderloins have wholeheartedly translated the most miserable of mishaps into absolute amusement, giving the audience and contestants permission to be entertained by these misfortunes,” said Brett Weitz, general manager for TNT, TBS, & truTV in a statement. “We couldn't be more excited to continue our relationship with these five brilliantly talented comedians."

Showtime has commissioned a pilot order for a new half hour comedy series executive produced by Vanessa Bayer and Jeremy Beiler (Saturday Night Live), the premium service announced Monday. 

The series, Big Deal, is a comedy in which Bayer plays a character -- inspired by her own past -- who overcame childhood leukemia to achieve her lifelong dream of landing a job as a QVC host, according to Showtime. Jessi Klein (Inside Amy Schumer, Black Monday) will also serve as executive producer of the show.

“Vanessa Bayer is such a sharp and joyful comic talent, and in Big Deal she mines the story of her own life to deliver hard comedy with deep resonance,” said Gary Levine, Showtime president of entertainment in statement. 

 “In Jeremy, Jessi and Michael (Showalter), we have a veritable All-Star team who never fail to deliver smart, subversive and funny comedy – which Big Deal certainly promises to be,” he added.

IFC will bring back its comedy series Baroness von Sketch Show for a fourth season beginning Oct. 30.

The sketch series, starring Carolyn Taylor, Meredith MacNeill, Aurora Browne and Jennifer Whalen, will debut with back-to-back episodes, Baroness von Sketch Show provides an insightful, satirical look at our everyday modern lives, according to IFC.

Baroness von Sketch Show is executive produced by Jamie Brown, Taylor, MacNeill, Browne and Whalen, who also serves as showrunner.
