Fox News unveiled a new Washington newsroom and studios with a ribbon-cutting Thursday night (Sept. 30) in advance of the top-rated cable news network's 25th anniversary Oct. 7.

Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch did the ribbon-cutting honors for the newly reopened bureau, flanked by Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott and president and executive editor Jay Wallace. 

Actually, it is two studios, a digital tech platform for video graphics and a reconfigured newsroom according to Bret Baier, who reported on the new digs on Special Report.

The studio’s Green Room is named after the late Fox contributor Charles Krauthammer and the new radio studio after the late host of Fox News Sunday, Tony Snow.

Fox News and the National Merit Scholarship Program, have picked the first two recipients of the Dr. Charles Krauthammer Memorial Scholarship.

They are Ami Carey of Lynbrook, N.Y., and Michael Carey of Merrick, N.Y.

They are the children of brothers, Fox News Media senior VP of technical operations, Steve Carey (Ami), and senior director of IT operations, John Carey (Michael).

The scholarship is for eligible children of Fox employees and is $2,000 per college year for four years.

“We are proud to honor Charles’ legacy of exceptional journalism and lifelong love of learning with this scholarship in his name," said Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott. "Ami Carey and Michael Carey embody the next generation of outstanding thought leaders and we are thrilled to facilitate a pathway for them to pursue their academic curiosity and educational goals.”

Dr. Krauthammer, who was a Pulitzer-prize winning commentator, was a contributor to Fox News from 2002 up until his death in 2018, and was respected for his rigorous intellect and as one of the most influential and articulate conservative voices in the country.

Longtime Fox News commentator Charles Krauthammer died Thursday after a bout with cancer, the network said.

In a statement, Fox News said Krauthammer – who joined Fox News in the mid 2000s while continuing to serve as a columnist for the Washington Post, where he won a Pulitzer Prize in for commentary in 1987 -- was an “inspiration to all of us and will be greatly missed." 

Krauthammer's death comes nearly two weeks after announcing he only had "a few weeks left to live" in a farewell letter that appeared in the Post.   

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and friend, Charles Krauthammer," said the Fox News in the statement. "A gifted doctor and brilliant political commentator, Charles was a guiding voice throughout his time with Fox News and we were incredibly fortunate to showcase his extraordinary talent on our programs. He was an inspiration to all of us and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his beloved wife Robyn and his son Daniel."

The network on Friday will air a special Charles Krauthammer: His Words, which will include reflections on Krauthammer’s life and work by Fox News on-air personalities and contributors Bret Baier, Brit Hume, Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Fred Barnes, and George Will, according to the network.

Baier tweeted Thursday night regarding Krauthammer's death: "R.I.P. good friend. I am sure you will be owning the panel discussion in heaven as well."
