Lionsgate said Friday that board member Phyllis Yaffe has informed it of her intention to retire and will not stand for reelection at its next annual meeting.  

Yaffe, a long-time media executive,  was recently named Canada’s Consul General in New York. In a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday, Lionsgate said her decision to retire was not the result of any disagreement with the company or matter relating to its corporate policies or practices. Yaffe will continue to serve out her duties as chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, and as a member of the Audit & Risk Committee until the expiration of her current term at the 2016 Annual Meeting.

Lionsgate agreed to purchase premium channel Starz in a deal valued at $4.4 billion in June.
