Acorn TV is well positioned to be competitive in the battle among streaming services by super-serving fans of British-produced content, according to Acorn TV general manager Matthew Graham.

The $5.99 monthly, subscription-based service currently offers more than 3,000 hours of acquired and original programming fare primarily originating from the UK, but also featuring content from Australia, New Zealand and Ireland, said Graham.

Acorn TV, created by BET founder Robert Johnson’s RLJ Entertainment Inc. in 2011 and acquired by AMC in 2018, has more than 1 million subscribers in the US and Canada.

Graham talks about the success of Acorn TV as well as its viability in a crowded video streaming marketplace in a new OTT Spotlight segment.

Subscription video on demand service True Royalty Tv has launched on Cox Contour TV, executives from both parties said Monday.

The $5.99 per month service, which features original and acquired content surrounding the British Royal Family, will be featured as part of the Cox Contour TV programming lineup. In addition to content about the British Royal Family, True Royalty TV features documentaries and docudramas about other Monarchies around the world, said the network.

“The launch on Cox is a tremendous step forward for True Royalty TV ... we have tapped into a specialized content sector that has a massive fan base – a fact that our platform partners have come to fully appreciate,” said Gregor Angus, True Royalty TV CEO and co-founder in a statement. “Our distribution on this platform will be vital in our continued growth in the US in the months and years to come.”

True Royalty TV is also available in the US on Xfinity’s X1 platform, Sling TV, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Roku, via iOS and Android app stores and online at www.TrueRoyalty.tv.

Subscription streaming service BritBox is focused on delivering quality, new and classic British Tv fare to American viewers, according to BritBox president Soumya Sriraman. 

The two-year old SVOD channel, created by ITV and BritBox, offers iconic favorites, exclusive premieres, and current series and soaps, most of which are available within 24 hours after their UK premiere, according to the service. Sriraman discusses the BritBox brand as well as the digital streaming platform in the latest episode of MCN Original Videos' "OTT Spotlight."
