BET has tapped Billy Porter to host a new fashion-themed episode of a new documentary film series Black + Iconic debuting February 18. 

The four-part, eight-hour film series will celebrate Black cultural icons, pioneers and activists and their impact, influence and legacies in fashion, music, film and dance, according to the network. 

The Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award-winning Porter will serve as host, narrator and executive producer for Black + Iconic: Style Gods, which debuts February 18 on BET, BET Her and VH1, and celebrates the wold of fashion through interviews with Black models, fashion designers and style icons, said the network. 

Producer Stanley Nelson will serve as executive producer for the Black + Iconic series, BET executives said. 

“With this definitive and original documentary franchise, we look forward to giving some of the amazing Black icons who have shaped and continue to influence popular culture their well-deserved recognition,” Connie Orlando, BET Executive VP, Specials, Music Programming, Music Strategy and News said in a statement. “We are proud to partner with Firelight Films and Stanley Nelson again, a pillar in the creative and documentary communities, and Firelight Films on this groundbreaking series. We loved having Billy Porter perform at last year’s BET Awards, and we are honored to have one of the most recognizable entertainers, trailblazing forces, and a style icon in his own right, narrate Style Gods.”’ 

Added Nelson: “We’re thrilled to be working with BET again after the success of our first project together, Through the Fire: The Legacy of Barack Obama. I couldn’t think of a better home for this series celebrating Black icons via the numerous mediums through which Black creatives have made an indelible mark on the culture.”■

Apple TV Plus has greenlit a second season of its unscripted biography series Dear …, which will debut March 4.

The new season of the series, which features leaders, entertainers and athletes gaining insight on their contributions to society by reading letters written by their fans, will feature the late fashion icon André Leon Talley, Viola Davis, Jane Fonda, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ava DuVernay, Billy Porter, Sandra Oh, Malala Yousafzai and Laird Hamilton.

By reading these letters, each influential figure learns how they have unknowingly impacted others and gain new insight into how their work has made a unique contribution to the global community, said the streaming service.

The docuseries is executive produced by R.J. Cutler (Apple TV Plus's Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry) along with Jane Cha Cutler, Todd Lubin, Jay Peterson, and Donny Jackson.

The streaming service also announced an April 1 premiere date for its new espionage series Slow Horses, starring Gary Oldman.

The six-episode drama series, based on Mick Herron’s novels, follows a team of British intelligence agents who serve in a dumping ground department of MI5 – Slough House. Apple TV Plus will premiere the first two episodes, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday. ■

FX Tuesday released the official video trailer for the third and final season of its Emmy-winning drama series Pose.

The series, which returns May 2, follows the lives of the leaders and icons of New York’s underground ball culture in the 1980s. Season three advances the storyline to 1994 as the show’s characters deal with the changing ballroom culture as well as the crippling AIDS epidemic, but remain steadfast in their love and support of one another, according to the network. 

Pose, co-created by Ryan Murphy, Bread Falchuk and Steven Canals, has featured the largest-ever cast of transgender actors in series regular roles, including Michaela Jaé, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore and Hailie Sahar, who star alongside Billy Porter, Dyllón Burnside, Angel Bismark Curiel, Sandra Bernhard and Jason A. Rodriguez. 

Two surprise winners took home awards in the best actor and actress in a drama categories.

Pose’s Billy Porter took home the Emmy award for lead actor in a drama series for his role in FX’s Pose, besting Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk, Game Of Thrones’ Kit Harington, Ozark’s Jason Bateman, This is Us’ Milo Venrimiglia and Sterling K. Brown.

Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer won for best actress in a drama series, topping series co-star and category favorite Sandra Oh, Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke, House Of Cards’ Robin Wright, How to Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis; Ozark’s Larua Linney and This Is Us’ Mandy Moore.
