CBS will re-air Sunday's Billy Joel concert telecast this Friday (April 19) after several CBS-affiliated stations abruptly cut part of Sunday's telecast of the singer’s taped concert performance. 

In a statement Monday, the network said that "a network programming timing error" ended it's telecast of  The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden – The Greatest Arena Run of All Time approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones. 

"We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song," CBS said in its statement. "Due to the overwhelming demand from his legion of fans, Billy Joel: The 100th -- Live At Madison Square Garden will be rebroadcast in its entirety on CBS on April 19th at 9:00 PM ET/PT." 

The concert is also available on the Paramount Plus streaming service.

The taped concert was slated to air on CBS stations Sunday from 9 pm. to 11 p.m., but was delayed by the network’s extended live coverage of the Masters PGA golf tournament before several CBS-affiliated stations in the Eastern and Central Time Zones prematurely ended the telecast in favor of its scheduled 11 p.m. local news telecasts, according to published reports.

The concert telecast reportedly ended in the middle of Joel’s performance of his iconic The Piano Man song, further angering viewers who took to social media to complain about the decision.

Jerry Seinfeld and Sting made surprise appearances at the March 28 Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden, which was taped for the CBS special The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden–The Greatest Arena Run of All Time. 

The special, marking the 100th concert of Joel’s MSG residency, airs on CBS and Paramount Plus Sunday, April 14. 

Seinfeld and Joel raised a banner to commemorate the piano man’s historic run at the Garden. 

Joel and Sting perform “Big Man on Mulberry Street” and “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.”

A New Yorker, Joel first played MSG in late 1978. His monthly gigs at the arena, which began in 2014, end in July. According to CBS, every Billy Joel show at MSG, from 1978 to 2024, has sold out. 

Joel released the new song “Turn the Lights Back On” in February, and played the Grammys a few days later. 

The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden is a co-production of Sony Music Entertainment and Enliven Entertainment. Steve Cohen, Barry Ehrmann and Paul Dugdale are executive producers. Dugdale directs the special. 

CBS features The 100th: Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden — the Greatest Arena Run of All Time Sunday, April 14. The special is a look at Joel’s 100th consecutive performance at the New York venue, which happens March 28. 

Paramount Plus will stream it as well. 

Joel’s monthly performances at his hometown arena began in 2014 and are scheduled to end this summer. 

He first played the Garden in 1978 and has sold out the venue more than any other artist, according to CBS. 

The 100th is a co-production of Sony Music Entertainment and Enliven Entertainment. Steve Cohen, Barry Ehrmann and Paul Dugdale are executive producers. Paul Dugdale directs. 

CBS said it will be the first time a Joel concert airs on a broadcast network. 

Joel, who grew up on Long Island, played a couple of tunes at the Grammy Awards earlier this month, which aired on CBS, including his first new track in decades, “Turn the Lights Back On.” Speaking with Joel during the telecast, host Trevor Noah noted how the two of them have sold out Madison Square Garden 152 times, not pointing out that Joel is responsible for 150 of them. 

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards averaged 16.9 million viewers, up 34% from last year, and the largest Grammys audience since 2020, CBS reported. CBS and Paramount Plus aired the event, which happened February 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. 

Trevor Noah hosted. Presenters included Oprah Winfrey, Meryl Streep, Lionel Richie and Lenny Kravitz, and the performers included Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell and U2, the latter performing at the Sphere in Las Vegas and then presenting best pop vocal album. 

That Grammy went to Taylor Swift for her album Midnights. Swift stepped to the podium and announced that her next album, The Tortured Poets Department, comes out in April. 

The Grammys were on from 8 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. 

Ratings peaked in the 9:45 p.m. quarter hour, with 18.25 million viewers watching the In Memoriam segment, with performances by Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, Jon Batiste and Fantasia Barrino. 

Live viewership on Paramount Plus grew 173% from last year. 

Other highlights included Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs performing “Fast Car,” Jay-Z getting the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, and Celine Dion making a surprise appearance as she battles a rare neurological disorder, then presenting album of the year to Swift. 

Ratings for The 65th Annual Grammy Awards a year ago grew 30% from the previous year. The 2022 Grammys had shifted to April amidst concerns over COVID-19 and moved to Las Vegas. The 2021 Grammys were held outdoors due to the pandemic. 

Billy Joel will perform at The 66th Annual Grammy Awards, which happens February 4 on CBS and Paramount Plus. Trevor Noah hosts the event from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. 

Joel has won five Grammys. He will release his first single in decades, called “Turn the Lights Back On,” on February 1. 

Joel, 74, has had a monthly residency at Madison Square Garden for the past decade, which ends with a concert in July, which will be his 150th across his career. 

Burna Boy, Luke Combs, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Olivia Rodrigo and Travis Scott will also perform that night. 

Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor and Jesse Collins are executive producers for the Grammys. 

Noah, formerly the host of The Daily Show, also hosted in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Entertainment legend Barbara Streisand will get her own SiriusXM Satellite Radio channel this Friday, appropriately named The Barbra Streisand Channel, which will exclusively feature the works of the Grammy, Oscar, Emmy and Tony award-winning artist.

The limited-run channel will launch on Sept. 12 at 5:00 pm ET and will run through Friday, Oct. 10, via satellite on Sirius channel 69 and XM channel 73. The Barbra Streisand Channel will also be available online on channel 69 and through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App.

Sirius XM is controlled by Liberty Media.

The channel will feature music spanning Streisand's legendary career, from her 1963 debut through her newest album, Partners, scheduled to be released on Sept. 16. The channel will be fully dedicated to Barbra Streisand's extensive body of work and will include selections from her live and studio recordings. The channel will also include Streisand's personal song selections from her catalog, spanning 50 years.

The Barbra Streisand Channel will also feature an exclusive "Town Hall" special with the entertainer. Streisand will sit down for a Q&A session with a select group of listeners in the SiriusXM studios in New York. Moderated by her longtime colleague, music industry executive Jay Landers, "SiriusXM's Town Hall with Barbra Streisand" will air on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 12:00 pm ET on The Barbra Streisand Channel.
