Nick Jonas will host the 2021 Billboard Music Awards from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. It happens May 23 and NBC airs the event. 

Jonas shared the news on Today April 30.

Jonas is a member of the Jonas Brothers. His film work includes Goat and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He’s a coach on NBC competition series The Voice. 

Last year’s Billboard Music Awards happened in October after initially being scheduled for late April. Kelly Clarkson hosted, as she did in 2018 and 2019. 

Barry Adelman and Robert Deaton are executive producers for the telecast.

The 2021 Billboard Music Awards happens live on NBC May 23. Dick Clark Productions is producing the event, which celebrates the best in music. NBC has not announced who will host the gala. 

“Unique among music awards shows, honorees are determined by performance on the Billboard charts, the ultimate authority and measure of success in music,” according to Billboard and NBC. 

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards happened Oct. 14 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Kelly Clarkson, host of daytime program The Kelly Clarkson Show, hosted the awards, as she had done in 2018 and 2019. Memorable performances came from Demi Lovato, John Legend and Post Malone, among others, and Malone won nine awards. 

The 2020 event was to happen April 29, but was pushed back due to the pandemic.

ABC’s Billboard Music Awards easily bested HBO’s Game of Thrones on the social media battlefield Sunday night {May 22), according to Nielsen.

Audiences sung the praises of the annual awards show on Twitter, generating 1.7 million tweets from 495,000 unique Twitter authors to top all shows for the day, according to Nielsen’s daily Twitter TV ratings report.

HBO’s Game of Thrones episode generated 307,000 tweets, followed by the WWE Network/pay-per-view distributed WWE Extreme Rules event, which tallied 268,000 tweets to finish third.

The Oklahoma City Thunder’s thrashing of the Golden State Warriors in game three of the NBA’s Western Conference finals playoff telecast on TNT drew 648,000 tweets from 281,000 unique Twitter users to finish first among all live sports events for the day, according to Nielsen.
