USA Network has greenlit a third season of its drama/mystery series The Sinner, the network said Wednesday.

Actor Bill Pullman will reprise his role as Detective Harry Ambrose for the third season of the Emmy-nominated drama, said the network. Matt Bomer will join the cast of The Sinner as resident and expectant father who looks to Ambrose for support in the wake of an accident, according to network officials.

The Sinner's third season will also bring back Derek Simonds as executive producer and showrunner, with Charlie Gogolak serving as executive producer along with Jessica Biel and Michelle Purple through their company Iron Ocean. Adam Bernstein (Fargo, Breaking Bad) is set to direct the first two episodes and will also executive produce, said USA. 

USA Network will bring back its freshman drama series The Sinner for a second season this summer, the network said Friday.

The eight-episode series, from Universal Cable Productions, will once again star Bill Pullman as Detective Harry Ambrose, who in season two will investigate the case of an 11-year old boy who kills his parents with no apparent motive, according to USA.

Derek Simonds will return as executive producer and showrunner for The Sinner, with Jessica Biel, Michelle Purple and Charlie Gogolak also serving as executive producers, said the network.

“The Sinner was a huge success for USA Network,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment in a statement. “In our second season, we’ll follow Detective Ambrose as he tracks his newest 'why-dunnit,' while staying true to the unique, edge-of-your-seat storytelling that captivated audiences and critics alike.”
