Animated series Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head premieres on Paramount Plus Thursday, August 4. The series arrives a few weeks after movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, which debuted on Paramount Plus June 23.

Paramount Plus also has the 1996 movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, and remastered versions of the classic series, with the full library available soon.

Beavis and Butt-Head ran on MTV for seven seasons from 1993 to 1997, with an eighth season as part of a revival in 2011. 

Besides creating, writing and producing the show, Judge voices Beavis and Butt-Head, a pair of dim-witted boys prone to goofy adventures around town and sometimes beyond. 

Judge, Lew Morton and Michael Rotenberg, and Chris Prynoski executive produce, along with Shannon Prynoski, Ben Kalina and Antonio Canobbio for Titmouse. ■

Movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe premieres on Paramount Plus June 23. Over 200 episodes of the series, Beavis and Butt-Head, will be available on Paramount Plus, and a new series turns up later this year.

Paramount Plus calls the movie “a tale that technically spans two centuries,” and one that “promises to sit atop all future lists of the Dumbest Science Fiction Movies Ever Made.”

Beavis and Butt-Head are sentenced to space camp by a juvenile court judge in 1998. The pair paradoxically excels, and are asked to join a space shuttle mission. They foul up the mission and are left for dead in space, then shoot through a black hole and reemerge back on Earth in 2022. 

Animated comedy Beavis and Butt-Head ran on MTV for seven seasons, starting in 1993, then had an eighth season in 2011. 

“Beavis and Butt-Head were defining voices of a generation, and to this day, the show is one of the most well-known and beloved animated IPs of all time,” said Chris McCarthy, president/CEO, Paramount Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios. “Mike Judge has reimagined this dynamic duo in a way that is sure to have both old fans and new ones alike laughing out loud – and we couldn’t be more excited to bring them back into our rapidly expanding arsenal of hit adult animation.”

Voices in the film come from Mike Judge, Gary Cole, Chris Diamantopoulos, Nat Faxon, Brian Huskey, Chi McBride and Tig Notaro. Judge created Beavis and Butt-head. 

“Reuniting Beavis and Butt-Head is the smartest dumb move one could make, and we jumped at the opportunity,” said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of streaming for Paramount Plus. “Only a duo this iconic would bring us to space and back and we’re so excited to share their epic, nacho-filled journey with audiences.”

The movie is executive produced by Judge, Lew Morton and Michael Rotenberg, and Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Ben Kalina, and Antonio Canobbio for Titmouse. ■

MTV will rebrand VH1 Classic into an MTV Classic channel that will feature vintage MTV programming from the 1990s, the network said Thursday.

VH1 Classic’s rock-themed music videos and live concert programming will be replaced by MTV Classic on Aug. 1 – 35 years to the day that MTV first debuted, said network officials. The newly branded network will launch by replaying MTV’s first hour of programming from 1981, said network officials.

 The “MTV Hour One” will also air on MTV’s Facebook page via Facebook Live.

Later that day MTV Classic will also air a Total Request Live retrospective,The TRL Decade, as well as a marathon of MTV Unplugged episodes featuring such artists as Bob Dylan, Alice In Chains, Erykah Badu, Oasis, Neil Young and Nirvana.

In primetime the network will air classic MTV animated including Daria, Beavis & Butt-head and Aeon Flux.

The network’s weekly schedule will feature MTV’s classic music series every Friday in primetime including MTV Unplugged, Storytellers and live music performances, while on weekends the network will offer full season marathons of such shows as The Real World, Laguna Beach and Road Rules.

VH1 Classic is the latest network in the MTV family to be rebranded. In February MTV’s Palladia channel was renamed MTV Live, while VH1 Soul was rebranded BET Soul last December.
