Hulu has acquired the streaming rights to History’s mini-series Roots as part of a new licensing agreement with A+E Networks.

Hulu will stream the four-part series, which aired last month on consecutive days beginning on Memorial Day, beginning this fall, according to Hulu. The series, a revision of the classic 1970s ABC miniseries about the American slavery experience as told through the multi-generational journey of one family, was viewed by 14.4 million total linear viewers across all premiere week telecasts, said A+E Networks.

The deal also includes SVOD rights to History’s Barbarians Rising and Lifetime’s War and Peace, said Hulu.

History will air in 2016 a limited docu-drama series Barbarians Rising, the network said Wednesday (Dec. 2).

The eight-part series will chronicle the rise and fall of the Roman Empire from the perspective of barbarian rebel leaders, said network officials. The series will feature nine of history’s greatest warriors – Hannibal, who vowed a blood oath at the age of nine; Spartacus, the slave-turned-rebel who led a barbarian revolt; Boudica, the Celtic warrior Queen; Arminius, the stolen son of Germany; Attila, scourge of the east; as well as fighting units, the Goths, a fierce people betrayed by the empire; and the Vandals, the wandering raiders who dealt Rome’s final death blow.

The series, produced by October Films with Adam Bullmore serving as executive producer, will premiere across 185+ territories, said network officials.
