Animated comedy Archer has been renewed for season 13 on FXX. There will be eight episodes and they will run in 2022.

Season 12 started Aug. 25 and concludes Oct. 6.

Archer was created by Adam Reed and is executive produced by Reed, Matt Thompson and Casey Willis at Floyd County Productions. The series follows Sterling Archer as he navigates the changing landscape of the spy world. In the current season, Archer and the gang face a new threat: a spy conglomerate known as IIA (International Intelligence Agency). With a limited number of spy jobs up for grabs, can The Agency compete against the soulless IIA, or will it get swallowed up?

“On behalf of our entire team of talented illustrators, animators, writers and actors, I just wanted to say … ahhh, damn. I had something for this. Nope. Lost it. So … I guess just thanks?” said Thompson and Willis.

FX Networks' returning series American Horror Story: Double Feature and Archer highlight a light week of original show premieres during the last full week of August.

The 10th season of the Ryan Murphy-produced anthology series debuts Aug. 25 and stars Sarah Paulson, Angelica Ross, Lily Rabe and Evan Peters. Episodes from American Horror Story: Double Feature will also stream the following day after premiering on FX.

Also returning this week is FXX’s animated series Archer for its 12th season on Aug. 25 and Apple TV Plus' drama series See for its second season on Aug. 27.

Jessica Walter, who starred as the Bluth family matriarch in Arrested Development, died Wednesday at her New York City home in her sleep. She was 80.

"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of my beloved mom, Jessica," said Walter's daughter Brooke Bowman, who is senior VP of programming and development Fox. "A working actor for over six decades, her greatest pleasure was bringing joy to others through her storytelling both on screen and off. While her legacy will live on through her body of work, she will also be remembered by many for her wit, class and overall joie de vivre.”

Walter, whose career spanned six decades, began her turn as Lucille Bluth in the quirky cult comedy Arrested Development in 2003, appearing in all five seasons. She also voiced Mallory Archer in the FXX TV series Archer.

“Jessica Walter’s spectacular turn as the devilish Lucille Bluth is one of the great comedic performances of television history, and we loved working with her as much as audiences loved her on Arrested Development," 20th Television said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to her family and friends, particularly her daughter, and our former colleague, Brooke. We know that heaven just got a whole lot funnier with Jessica now in residence.”

Other notable TV roles include Amy Prentiss, for which she won an Emmy, and guest spots on Trapper John, M.D., The Streets of San Francisco, The Love Boat and Murder, She Wrote.

On the big screen she starred opposite Clint Eastwood in Play Misty for Me, in Slums of Beverly Hills and in The Flamingo Kid, among others. Tributes to her on Thursday came from Viola Davis, Tony Hale and Netflix, among others.

FXX has renewed the animated comedy Archer for a 12th season. Season 12 is slated to premiere in 2021.

Season 11 began Sept. 16. The season is averaging 2.43 million total viewers, according to FXX.  

“Archer is back in a big way this season, with viewership up as the Emmy Award-winning spy series returns to its roots and begins to plot a 12th season next year,” said Nick Grad, president, original programming, FX Entertainment. “Our thanks to Adam Reed, Matt Thompson, Casey Willis and the entire team at Floyd County Productions for keeping Archer as fun as ever and true to form. The series follows Sterling Archer and his return to the spy world after a three-year coma. While many things changed during his absence, Archer is confident it will take just a little time for him to reset things back to the old ways. The problem: does the rest of the team want that? 

“After three seasons in Archer’s mind, we’re all excited to come back to the real world,” Willis told B+C. 

Archer features the voices of H. Jon Benjamin as Sterling, Aisha Tyler as super-spy Lana Kane, Jessica Walter as Archer’s mother and spymaster, Malory, Judy Greer as assistant Cheryl/Carol Tunt, and Chris Parnell as alpha male Cyril. 

Archer was created by Adam Reed and is executive produced by Reed, Thompson and Willis at Floyd County Productions. The series is produced by FX Productions. 

Coastal Elites, which HBO calls a “socially distanced comedy,” has Bette Midler, Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Levy, Sarah Paulson and Issa Rae in the cast. The characters grapple with politics, culture and the pandemic. Each performs a long monologue. 

Paul Rudnick wrote Coastal Elites and Jay Roach directs. Both are executive producers. Coastal Elites was set to happen at New York’s Public Theater. Then 2020, and all its madness, hit. 

The producers reworked the scripts to reflect our crazy times. “It was always intended to be right now,” said Rudnick, “and to be as honest as we could possibly get it.”

The actors shot their one-act scenes at home. “Paul’s monologues connect to something that everybody is going through in one way or another,” said Roach. “How they are coping is so heartbreaking and dramatizing, and also darkly ironic and absurd.”

Izzy Bee’s Koala World starts on Netflix Sept. 15. Izzy is an 11-year-old girl living in Australia. Her parents run a koala hospital, and Izzy keeps the recovering koalas calm and happy. 

“She’s the emotional support person,” said David Glauber, supervising producer. “She’s almost a koala whisperer.”

The koalas, including Cinderella, Juliet and Stormboy, are fun to watch. “Their personalities are unique,” Glauber said. “And of course, they’re adorable.”

Izzy Bee was previously on an Animal Planet series called Dodo Heroes. “We fell in love with her,” said Glauber, creative lead at animal programmer Dodo Kids. “She exemplifies everything we believe in as a brand.”

Koalas had a rough time when the wildfires devastated Australia. Glauber hopes the series provides viewers with a new appreciation for these fuzzy marsupials. “We want the audience to experience the joyful, playful lives of koalas,” he said. 

‘Archer’ Awakens on FXX 

Season 11 of animated comedy Archer kicks off on FXX Sept. 16. Super-spy Sterling Archer is conscious after years in a coma and making sense of the world around him. “After three seasons in Archer’s mind, we’re all excited to come back to the real world,” executive producer Casey Willis said.

Willis said Archer has matured across its 11 seasons. The visual storytelling has improved, and the producers work more on character development. “We show more of their journey,” Willis said. 

The key to lasting this long is Reed shaking things up, Willis said, including shifting to Archer Vice in season five, and the coma seasons in recent years. He gives FX credit for sticking with Archer and trusting the producers’ whims. “To FX’s credit, it was always, Sounds great, go for it,” he said. “Other outlets might be a little wary about changing the whole format.”

FX shared the dates of its fall premieres. Season 11 of animated comedy Archer starts Sept. 16 on FXX, and episodes turn up on Hulu the following day. H. Jon Benjamin voices super-spy Archer. 

New docuseries A Wilderness of Error begins Sept. 25 with three episodes, and also arrives on Hulu the next day. A Wilderness of Error is based on the book by Errol Morris.

As was previously announced, season four of hit drama Fargo begins Sept. 27. Chris Rock stars. The season is set in Kansas City in 1950, and depicts battling crime families. The season was initially set to roll in April, until the pandemic hit. 

Limited series A Teacher offers three episodes Nov. 10. Created by Hannah Fidell, A Teacher examines the complexities and consequences of a relationship between a high school teacher and her student. Kate Mara and Nick Robinson star. 

Season 11 of Archer will start on FXX Sept. 16. There are eight episodes, and two run on premiere night. Episodes turn up on Hulu the day after premiere.

FX will extend its anthology series American Horror Story for two additional seasons beyond its already scheduled seventh installment, the network announced during its Television Critics Association press tour presentation Thursday.

The network will add seasons eight and nine to the Ryan Murphy-produced American Horror Story franchise, which is slated to return for its  previously announced seventh campaign later this year, according to John Landgraf, CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions.

The series has won 15 Emmy Awards during its first six season and currently represents 12 of FX’s top 15 most watched telecasts ever, according to the network.

“American Horror Story launched the modern limited series revolution and – as evidenced by the most recent installment ‘Roanoke’ - it remains as vital today as when Murder House stunned audiences six years ago,” said John Landgraf. “Each new chapter is a cultural event, beloved for every new twist in imagery, style, cast and plot. We are thrilled that Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and the entire creative team will continue to deliver the groundbreaking, celebrated American Horror Story for years to come.”

FX also announced premiere dates for several of its new and returning series, including the debut of freshman drama series FEUD: Bette and Joan (March 5), the fifth season return of The Americans (March 7) and the premiere of animated series Archer on FXX (April 5).

FX’s animated comedy series Archer is moving from FX to sister service FXX for its eighth season, the network announced Tuesday.

The series will launch its new season on FXX sometime this spring, joining other series like Always Sunny In Philadelphia and You’re The Worst that have made the move from FX to FXX. Archer has already been renewed for seasons nine and 10, according to network officials.

“Archer is an awesome addition to the growing slate of original comedies on FXX, where it will join It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Man Seeking Woman and You’re the Worst,” said Chuck Saftler, President of Program Strategy and COO, FX Networks. “Adam Reed, Matt Thompson and Floyd County continue to make one of the funniest shows on television and it’s great to see them earn the awards and acclaim that comes with one of the most loyal and avid fan bases in the industry.”

FX Networks has renewed its long-running animated comedy series Archer for an additional three seasons, the company said Tuesday.

The series will return for an eight-episode season eight next year, followed by two additional eight-episode seasons, according to company officials. The series was created by Adam Reed and Floyd County Productions, and is executive produced by Reed and Matt Thompson.

In addition, FX Networks reached a new overall production deal with Floyd Country Productions.

“We can’t say enough about what Adam, Matt and the entire Archer team at Floyd County have done to keep this series so insanely funny and vital through seven seasons,” said Nick Grad, president of Original Programming for FX Networks. “The move to Los Angeles this past season as private detectives was just the latest twist in Archer’s legendary exploits and the next three seasons will to be just as amazing and unpredictable. We are thrilled to continue making great TV with our friends and colleagues at Floyd County.”

FX’s horror series The Strain has been renewed for a third series, the network said as part of several announcements from its Television Critics Association Tour session Friday.

The network greenlit a new comedy series Better Things, co-created and starring Pamela Adlon, who plays a working actor and single mom trying to raise three daughters, said network officials. Adlon was recently nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for an appearance on FX’s series Louie.

In other FX Networks news, FX sister service FXX will debut in 2016 a new animated series Cassius and Clay, which follows the exploits of two bandits looking to survive in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic American South, said network officials. In addition, FXX said it will air the seventh season of animated series Archer. The series moves over from FX, which aired the first six seasons of the spy-themed comedy.

FX announced premiere dates for several of its shows, including freshman drama series The Bastard Executioner (Sept. 15), American Horror Story: Hotel (Oct. 7) and Fargo (Oct. 12)

Archer, FX's animated spy comedy, will premiere on Comedy Central with two back-to-back episodes on March 2.

Comedy Central announced last spring it had acquired syndication rights from Twentieth Television to the haf-hour series, its second pick-up of an FX series; Comedy Central also airs the Fox cable network's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The Archer deal covers all existing seasons of the series, including commitments for future seasons.

Archer will run on Comedy Central in one-hour, two-episode blocks on Mondays at 10 p.m. (ET) and Fridays at 11 p.m. (ET), the network said.
